Weird things that make you cringe

Do you have any odd things that make you cringe?

I find the sound of water being poured into a jug or glass really cringe.. it’s so odd. Water coming out of a tap is fine, but it’s that gluggy noise. My daughter had a relaxing video on YouTube today and it had a stream with some twinkly music over the top.. the bloody stream going over a rock was making a similar gluggy noise and making me cringe 🤣.

Anyone else have anything similar and ridiculous?!

Also, majorly, use of the word 'meal' meeeeyull meil meeeel meeeyulll

In my accent people either say 'mil' but kind of more like 'miw' I think or 'meeyull' it now sounds extremely strange but I've never thought of it before.

I am nigh-on triggered by meal deals, I tell you! Towel bales (sold in dept stores) have the same effect. Tow-wull bay-yull or towle bayle, either is maddening

Meeeel deeeel miw diw

Thats reallymade me laugh. At my sons sports club they publish profiles on the players (adults not kids) on social media and one of the things they put is the players meal deal choice (from 'Tescos' now thats another cringe)

Yep it's towull bayull where I'm from too.

Rylan and his teeth.

Joe Wicks voice although I think he is great otherwise.

Any electronic noises.

The sound of people eating.

People singing happy birthday.

I mime when I sing it to others in a group and I get second hand embarrassment for the person being sung to

The singing of it then the cheering and clapping after. Utter cringe

HowNice23 · 15/01/2024 08:49

Thought of some more.

I agree with not liking those lockstep performances or drills you see in places like North Korea. Or even American marching bands. It's just weirdly inhuman and machine like.

Small children being insanely good (like world's best not just bright) at something such as maths or sport. I know that sounds mean spirited but I just wonder about the parental pressure.

Can't tolerate 'plays that go wrong'

'Goofy' stunts that involve things like those massive dinosaur costumes. It's just trying too hard.

Wedding dances where everyone joins in in a prepared routine. Usually one or both of the married couple has no coordination.

Yes I am a miserable cow.

verylongday · 15/01/2024 08:52

I can't stand sandpaper. The thought of it catching my nails makes me shudder.

Hate anything to do with cuticles. I cant touch them myself and just about tolerate someone else dealing with them.

I find those musicians in restaurants that come and sing at your table totally cringe. I would just die. Even watching someone else having to endure it is excruciating

I can't stand people watching me when i open presents. The stress is unbearable. I just want to burst in to tears.

PurpleChrayne · 15/01/2024 08:56

Dyed dark hair with fair roots. Makes me feel physically ill.

PurpleChrayne · 15/01/2024 08:57

And that annoying style of hip hop dancing with exaggerated moves like a beating heart and head-nodding.

knackeredcat · 15/01/2024 09:03

Fellow misophonic so too many people noises.

There's a senior person in my work whose constant barrage of Teams messages are full of "hi guys!", "yay", "ppl", "obvs" and "yummy" (constant mindless chatter about food). In person they have real jumpy, excitable puppy vibes. Always wanting chats and follow-on meetings that aren't needed, and needing too much hand holding. Makes me cringe so hard for them while wondering how they got so far in their career. 😬

The sound of my breadmaker when kneading, the volume level and sound is indescribable.

EffieGraysDisappointingWeddingNight · 15/01/2024 11:02

The sound of applause on TV or in a film or on a record drives me potty.

Being in a crowd that's applauding is absolutely fine though.

EffieGraysDisappointingWeddingNight · 15/01/2024 11:04

when people say 'kick ass'

'My daughter is a kick ass teen', 'a kick ass red lipstick'. Especially when it's a British person saying it.

My cringometer cannot cope.

TM1979 · 15/01/2024 11:14

I can’t stand the sound of people drinking noisily. Why can’t they just drink properly?
That Glug Glug Glug sound..makes me want to commit murder.
I also hate people sneezing, coughing, sniffing etc.

Jacopo · 15/01/2024 11:46

People using the word 'shit' randomly. 'He made me lose my shit', 'I'm getting my shit together' etc. etc.

MILTOBE · 15/01/2024 11:49

Changingplace · 13/01/2024 21:03

Someone quickly scraping round a yoghurt pot, ugh just leave it alone I can’t stand it.

Yes, or scraping their plate.

Midge75 · 15/01/2024 11:53

the first dance at weddings. Can’t bear it! With everyone watching - I always have to turn away or leave the room.

Fosterfloof · 16/01/2024 04:57

On TV on a game show when the presenter is introducing the contestants and they say someone's name and that person claps along with everyone else!!! That so annoys me.

Ok they clap when the other people are being introduced but not when their name is called out.

It looks like they're a trained seal doing a trick!!

MrsHughesPinny · 16/01/2024 05:16

Ugh I have so many.

Non-professional singers singing, especially people doing karaoke and, to my shame, the worst cringe comes from little kid choirs where they do that shout-singing. Makes me want to fold myself up in embarrassment. Really, anything talent show-y or people trying to draw attention to themselves makes me cringe. One of my siblings always used to participate in talent shows and was actually fine compared with others but it’s the amateurishness that’s awful. Audience participation in anything will literally make me get up and leave an event.

The undersides of mushrooms, especially the big flat ones. The fact they’re called gills makes it infinitely worse.

This is really common, but seed pods or rocks with lots of holes in. I always imagine bugs or worms crawling out of them. If you really want a horror show: Suriname toad.

MrsHughesPinny · 16/01/2024 05:17

@Midge75 I have to leave to go to the loo or the bar during the first dance at a wedding. It’s mortifying.

MrsHughesPinny · 16/01/2024 05:34

@PiggieWig Argh! I feel exactly the same! My ex-H used to love to post every wretched thing he ate in the early days of Instagram because he travelled a lot. ‘Atop’ was always in his caption and it gave me the rage. It’s a hideous word AND he’d never have actually said it aloud!

SarcasmAndCoffee · 16/01/2024 08:47

Velvet
sponges
seeds in fruit/flowers esp sunflowers 🤢
wet washing
crispy washing (when it isn’t tumble dried)
my feet being wet
people chewing gives me the rageeeeee

Dramasloth · 16/01/2024 12:09

People who poke their tongue out a bit before taking a sip of a drink. Repulses me

heyduggee12345 · 16/01/2024 12:17

Wet socks 🤢

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 16/01/2024 12:19

Caller phone ins to shows like Jeremy Vine. They've usually got the programme on in the background creating an echo, despite the host saying not to and they umm and ahhh and can never articulate what they want to say (at least have a clue before you phone!).

I find it so painful to listen to.

I should really watch something else!
