I have been posting for a while now about my house being a shithole and trying to get on top of it,

Me and my family have been through alot. That has lasted years there's practically been no rest from it one thing after another. Its been absolutely hell. To the extent i could not even bath/shower on a regular basis. I had no support and was coping with everything alone its been awful. It gos pretty deep .

But things are getting better. But because its been so long my mind /emotions find it hard to believe. So I'm trying to get myself into a better mindset.

One of them things is to get my house clean and tidy and for it to feel nice to be in. I have done alot. But I also keep slipping backwards. So although it's better than one I first started I'm stuck because I keep slipping back.

I add shame photos because it pushes me to get it done and that's how I feel just now because I have basicly fucked up since Christmas and I'm angry for slipping backwards.

The picture of the really bad small room is a spare room . It's crap from my children's bedroom when I decorated it. I dumped crap in the spare room .

@Shamefullhouse yes I have to have cleaning products in each bathroom and the kitchen. If I have to fetch it from somewhere else I'll get distracted and wander off!

You've done amazingly today!

NewNameFor2024 · 13/01/2024 21:42

That is amazing!! Well done you!

I managed 3 black bags, a couple of Vinted items and a clean kitchen. I was aiming to do the hall stairs and landing but didn’t get around to it. X

Ah that's fantastic though. 3 bin bags is quite a bit . I was meant to do my room and the top bathroom but have not. I might do it tomorrow. Or maybe do a little bit when I go to bed

Yes that's what I'm going to do. Just some cloths , bleach and a spray cleaner. In each bathroom.

I honestly can’t believe what you’ve achieved. Marvellous. And you have a lovely house!

peoplearepeople · 13/01/2024 22:52

You've done a great job today!
Just wanted to add that I noticed someone upthread mentioned getting some plug in air fresheners. Please don't use these if you have pets! They are very very bad for them. Also if you use zoflora make sure if has dried on the surface you use it on before the pets go near it. 😀

Managed to sweep the stairs on my way down from the loo. That’s one job done x

peoplearepeople · 13/01/2024 23:12

@Shamefullhouse it's because most air fresheners contain something called vocs. These are toxic to your pets and can cause breathing issues, nose bleeds and even worse over time. Also worth remembering just how heightened your dogs sense of smell is. So what smells like a faint nice smell to you can be overpowering and stressful to the dog. There's some more info here. 😀

Copperoliverbear · 13/01/2024 23:59

@peoplearepeople you can get pet friendly plug in air fresheners,
She does not have to use them all over the house only where the dogs are going to the toilet in the house.

That's in the hall and the dogs sleep in the hall at night. I pulled All the vinyl floor up . Cleaned under it and added demoralising powder and put the floor back. So hopefully that's helped could try white vinegar as well maybe.

justrecognisedmyneighbouronhere · 14/01/2024 09:59

You've done brilliantly and despite being in a can't be arsed move I'd have a cuppa and then get cracking, you will feel so much better when it's all done and it means you can do ten mins a day in a room going forwards to keep on top of it or set yourself a couple of hours out of your week.

I really hope you do it, you've got this 🙂

demoralising powder

Doh! OP you're meant to use deodorising powder! This is why you're fed up!

New photos look brilliant well done. I wish I lived somewhere as clean and tidy as that! I was inspired to get deshittifying here but I've got period pains today and no housework is happening here😩

Shamefullhouse · 14/01/2024 10:27

I did use deodorising power. What even is demoralising power. Anyway it would have Been me messing up spelling etc.

I feel like it only counts as a nice tidy house once I can actually keep on top of it. So that's my thing which feels kind of harder.

I have never had a period pain have been very lucky . I hope you feel better soon.

You are doing really well OP 👍

I can’t remember if it’s been mentioned but for the smell in the hallway, bicarbonate of soda is good for neutralising smells. If it’s carpet then sprinkle on , leave for a while then vacuum. If it’s lino then a basic white vinegar does the same, add it to the water when cleaning.

Its vinyl. I pulled it all up last night. Spingled deodorising power under it. Relaid it then washed in top of it. I will get white vinegar as well. They sleep on the stairs so I'm gonna do the actual stairs as well.

After my mini tantrum I'm done. So have added my after pics. The floor was not as bad as I thought. I swept the concrete under it then spinkled 3 tubs of deodorising power over the floor then relayed the vinyl. I do have to get rid of the crap I have left outside but I'm doing that in an hour or so .

I do actually feel like im coming to an end of my shithole house. I need to clean/tidy my living room. And my bedroom. The top floor bathroom. I need to clean the skirting boards as well. Then the whole of my house is tidy.

I'm gonna cry when it's done 😭

Well done!

FYI. I hate skirtings, and they always look worse after I've hoovered, but was given a tip which works for me, tie an old sock or microfiber cloth on the end of a broom handle use that for them. Its so much less backbreaking and time consuming. Actually I use one wet and one dry.

Looks like all the cardboard stuff is a hangover from Christmas. We have some too as the recyling bins were packed full. You've reminded me to deal with that today.

I have like a mini flat mop thing that's for skirting.it seems to work OK. I have got rid of the boxes now . It was the large bits of wood against the wall that pissed me of. I couldn't lift them. I managed to sort it in the end though.
