I have been posting for a while now about my house being a shithole and trying to get on top of it,

Me and my family have been through alot. That has lasted years there's practically been no rest from it one thing after another. Its been absolutely hell. To the extent i could not even bath/shower on a regular basis. I had no support and was coping with everything alone its been awful. It gos pretty deep .

But things are getting better. But because its been so long my mind /emotions find it hard to believe. So I'm trying to get myself into a better mindset.

One of them things is to get my house clean and tidy and for it to feel nice to be in. I have done alot. But I also keep slipping backwards. So although it's better than one I first started I'm stuck because I keep slipping back.

I add shame photos because it pushes me to get it done and that's how I feel just now because I have basicly fucked up since Christmas and I'm angry for slipping backwards.

The picture of the really bad small room is a spare room . It's crap from my children's bedroom when I decorated it. I dumped crap in the spare room .

I'm glad to see you've changed your username!
Your kitchen looks great, clear and clean
I think you underestimate yourself and how far you've come

Morewineplease10 · 13/01/2024 00:31

I put a load of washing on and then try and get as much done as possible up until tge cycle finishes. I treat it as a game to beat the clock. Always get more done than I think.

Bit sad but it works for me!!

Milkybarsareonmeeeee · 13/01/2024 00:34

Start in the bedroom that can be your place to switch off not apps of there is a baby ont eh ground
Then the kitchen or the kitchen first as everyone sees it .

Not filthy jkist messy. . No judgement here .

You need tubs to put things in and shelving

Get rid of packaging that can all go outside for the bin man

When we have a baby things just fall by the wayside

We get exhausted it's exhausting

ScribeSev · 13/01/2024 01:25

You should get table to put in the middle of that large kitchen

It will feel more homely (if another surface like mine to put loads of crap on). Try and keep it clear though

ScribeSev · 13/01/2024 01:32

I used to have a couple of these that I'd throw all the random shit in so at least it was off the floor to be sorted out later

When DC were very little I'd fill them up with water outside on a hot summers day

No I won't get a table it will just give another surface to put crap on. It won't get used as a table either.

At the risk of enraging everyone I am very surprised at how many say ‘it’s not that bad’! But saying that, as others have said, put some music on, tackle a room at a time and you will be surprised how quickly it can be tidied. I would come and help you if I lived near! Good luck and I hope you post some after pictures.

CharliesAngles · 13/01/2024 08:58

Good morning @Shamefullhouse !
Well done on that kitchen tidy, you worked hard on that and it shows.
What are you planning to focus on today?

By the way, did you keep that rug in your living room in the end?

Your house will be your pride and joy very soon and you can change your username again! 😄

Sunshinebuttercupsrainbows · 13/01/2024 09:01

Haven’t read the full thread so apologies if it’s been suggested but I’d everything in the spare room is destined for the bin, and it’s exhausting bringing it all down, why not throw a duvet on the ground outside the window and chuck it all out from the bedroom window? Might save you a lot of energy!

Just people's opinions or just their way of trying to say its not hopeless . People say things in different ways . And thats really kind of you . Hopefully I will get quite a bit done today.

The rug , it's still there at the moment but I'm definitely taking it up this weekend . First thing ex said when he walked in . " that's a funny colour ain't it" 🤣. Plus it's in my way. I like to be able to get a broom sweep crap into a pile and sort it I can't do that with the rug there.

Today I want to get washing done. I want to get all the crap down from the small room. And binned. Sort all the landing and stairs . Bathrooms and my bedroom . I would really like to get it all done today if I can

I paid for a specialist deep clean and organise before Christmas. 6 hours for £180 and it was the best money I could have spent. I’ve managed to keep on top of it since then. She literally picked up stuff and found homes for it.

Your photos look like a normal home.

That room is at the top of the house at the back . It's just gonna make a massive mess on the ground outside . I will just sort it a bit at a time.

You really don’t give yourself enough any credit! That’s not bad. I would post a picture of my spare room but I’m too embarrassed. Every time you walk past something that’s not where it should be pick it up, one thing at a time. You really do need to make yourself do it though! I can walk past something lying on the floor many many times before I move it. Like the Christmas ornament still on the living room floor!

Schoolrunmumbun · 13/01/2024 10:00

Here's a plan to break the back of it as a first phase:

How about one pass through the house for all recycling and get that out to the recycling bin or tip. You look to have loads of cardboard.

Second pass through with a black bin bag for non recyclable actual rubbish and straight into outside bin. Be ruthless.

Third pass for clothes/ washing and get it straight into the washer. While that's on fold and put away any clean clothes lying around.

Then take the pics again and it will look loads less daunting.

Sorry OP I hadn't RTFT and didn't realise you would have made so much progress already! Well done! Kitchen is a triumph!
You have come so far, impressive!

Sounds like a good idea. But it just won't work for me as that would mean up and down the stairs several times in and out of rooms several times. And I end up getting breathless. If I do one room at a time then it's getting done but I'm.not getting to breathless and have to stop

I do feel embarrassed that's why I post it 😅 that's my problem As well I can be a right prick sometimes. My living room unit has at least 10 cupboards on it . What do i do dump things on the side. When there's a cupboard/drawers 2cm away . Wtf why do I do that.

I do think its better compared to a few weeks or so back. But I feel like I keep slipping back. And I still feel like the house has never felt nice.
