Getting rid of pubic hair during pregnancy

I'm embarrassed to say it's been a while since I've done it 😬 and it's now at a point where's it's too long and actually quite itchy. Pre pregnancy I preferred it hairless, but I find it so difficult to shave due to size of bump/getting in the right position etc. I can't reach all of the places that I need to.

How do others do it? I'm worried about the risk of infection but it really needs sorting. I've got hair removal cream, I'm thinking of maybe trying that tonight.

Currently DH is helping me with shaving!

SparkyBlue · 12/01/2024 15:06

Just go to a salon to get it waxed

EffortlessDelegation · 12/01/2024 15:07

Leave it, the itching passes.

@SparkyBlue I'd honestly be too embarrassed for anybody to see it the way it is now. I know they've seen it all before but still. I've never waxed before either

its awful though and feel really uncomfortable with it being so long

I may just use the trimmer to tidy it up rather than attempt to shave it all off

I use veet hair removal cream-game changer!

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 12/01/2024 15:10

Personally I never bothered with that when I got too big. If you’re worried about birth and what the midwife will think they literally don’t care at all. If the issue is just that you find it uncomfortable get someone to help you or go to a salon.

Whataretheodds · 12/01/2024 15:13

Why are you so embarrassed?

If you have a scheduled C section you're advised not to remove hair as it increases the infection risk. Given that you've always the possibility of an emergency C section I'd suggest you stop trying to remove hair for a few weeks before delivery.

Also, the itchy phase is surely going to be much worse when it kicks in on your post-natal bits. And you don't want to be dealing with ingrown hairs around an episiotomy scar.

Onehappymam · 12/01/2024 15:14

I went for a wax when I was pregnant (usually shave) and it was excruciating! When you’re pregnant you’re swollen and more sensitive. It’s not the time to go for your first wax.

I shaved blind (the latest Venus razors have big bumpers round the blades, so unlikely to cut yourself). Trim with electric clippers first. Otherwise use hair remover cream.

Evanesy · 12/01/2024 15:27

I got a wax as per usual.

I’ve been going to the same lady for several years now. My last wax was when I was 38 weeks pregnant, and it had been several months since my previous one. Her reaction: “woah, you have a lot of hair there now”.

Mortifying! I know it was because of pregnancy, but still - I was very content not knowing

That's what I did, and you can do it slightly blind over the bump!

eblue · 12/01/2024 15:30

Shaving blind worries me in case I end up cutting myself 😬

Why are you embarrassed about having perfectly natural pubic hair?

TMess · 12/01/2024 15:36

I use magic shave powder when I’m pregnant. I prefer to wax but it hurts too much during pregnancy!

Moier · 12/01/2024 16:00

How times have changed.. l had my eldest in 1985.. my husband trimmed me but the midwife still shaved me before l gave birth..
1993 had my second daughter.. my husband shaved me.. the midwife said l needed have bothered because they don't reccomend it.🤷‍♀️.

adriftinadenofvipers · 12/01/2024 16:02

Why not just leave it be??!!

Perfect28 · 12/01/2024 16:03

Go au natural. Seriously who cares

MedievalNun · 12/01/2024 16:04

I got hubs to do my bits. I never shaved it all off but did keep it short & neat so once bump got too big, he was tasked with the razor

SirenSays · 12/01/2024 16:06

Lots of mirrors and an electric trimmer if you haven't got someone to help with a proper shave.

heartofglass23 · 12/01/2024 16:08

Why would you think you'd be judged for being hairy rather than for not being hairy?

People can have quite strong options both ways.

Who's to say what's the opinion of the HCPs you get?

Completely agree. What a palaver.

Exactly. To me caring about removing your pubic hair when you're heavily pregnant is a bit tragic and far more embarrassing than having it. I'd like to think that HCPs wouldn't judge either way, but don't automatically assume that pubic hair = bad

DragonFly98 · 12/01/2024 16:15

what do mean uncomfortable once it's grown a bit so it's no itchy you can't feel hair.

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 12/01/2024 16:17

Hair removing cream with all of the nasty chemicals would not be a good idea.
What’s wrong with hair!!!
