Getting rid of pubic hair during pregnancy

I'm embarrassed to say it's been a while since I've done it 😬 and it's now at a point where's it's too long and actually quite itchy. Pre pregnancy I preferred it hairless, but I find it so difficult to shave due to size of bump/getting in the right position etc. I can't reach all of the places that I need to.

How do others do it? I'm worried about the risk of infection but it really needs sorting. I've got hair removal cream, I'm thinking of maybe trying that tonight.

Leave it be? Who actually shaves and waxes normal hair that’s there for a reason?

The vast majority do, according to surveys.

JanuaryJunipers · 12/01/2024 19:43

Surveys? Who conducts them?

OpalOrchid · 12/01/2024 19:45

The Op can do whatever she likes with her own body, but there's no need to be embarrassed about having pubic hair which is what pissed me off about her OP. It read to me like it was embarrassing to have pubes. It's really not.

I wouldn’t worry, you hang your dignity up at the door in my opinion, it’s the least of your worries. I’m mystified by this fashion of shaving it all off, my adult daughter does it and I find it peculiar, to me it looks child like.

Don't get me wrong, I keep my bush very tidy but wouldn’t shave it off after the experience I had during childbirth. I ended up having an emergency section and they did a dry shave 😫, honestly so itchy and I was wearing the dreaded paper knickers afterwards, soo uncomfortable.

Nearly half of under 35s do but the number plummmets over 35. So far from the 'vast majority'.

Maybe it's pressure from men or peers. Maybe it's lack of confidence. Maybe they've not been educated that pubic hair is healthier. Maybe it's a weird fashion.

SwordToFlamethrower · 12/01/2024 20:01

I grew all mine out, plus my legs and pits. Haven't looked back. Pubic hair is important in protecting genitals from nasties. Respect how our bodies have evolved. Trust the process.

Also, who can be bothered!!!

lobster53 · 12/01/2024 20:13

It’s so weird for women to have such strong opinions on how other women choose to have their pubic hair. I hate mine long, it feels gross, I like to feel clean and tidy which removing it does for me personally. If the OP wants to remove it, stop judging her! So many cranks around.

Perhaps stop judging women who don't feel gross and perfectly clean and tidy with pubic hair.

eblue · 12/01/2024 20:32

I've trimmed and applied some hair removal cream. It's too long for a razor! Already feels better though now I've trimmed most of it, it's just the hard to reach parts i struggle with

Maybe it's just personal preference.

@OpalOrchid how has @lobster53 judged others? She said SHE feels cleaner and tidier without HER pubic hair.

Just because us women prefer not to have a hairy vulva doesn't mean we're personally attacking those who like to have prominent pubes.

I think the language you just used proves you do judge.

Most people.

Unlikely. Most women. A few men. Unlikely to be a majority. (And I’m up including legs and armpits in that - pubes? Way less than half of women I’d say, never mind men.

bedknobsandstickbrooms · 12/01/2024 20:55

I wouldn't be embarrassed by just natural hair.

However, so many women here saying their husbands shaved them.....I would find that excruciatingly embarrassing Blush

Guess I'm just a prude.

Daniagainagainagain · 12/01/2024 20:59

@OpalOrchid

Can you elaborate?

Hairy vulva / prominent pubes are just a way of me describing someone having just that, hair in their vulva.

I don't understand or see how that's me being judgemental.

I feel the same. I could never ask my DH to do it for me

I shaved blind. Used a fairly blunt razor. I was having a planned c section so knew I would need to be hairless down there for that so I kept it in check the whole time as I wouldn’t want to tackle a full bush blind!

bedknobsandstickbrooms · 12/01/2024 21:04

@eblue glad to know it's not just me!

That's good you've managed a trim and feel a bit more comfortable.

I think it just had a go blind when I was expecting, but didn't stress too much about the hard to reach places.

Once the baby was born and the bump was gone and I had a look it was pretty awful Grin but it really didn't matter.

If you're feeling more comfortable now I would just leave it at that, it'll be fine xx

I'm also having a planned c section. There's no way I could have left it for a few more weeks without trying to do something about it. I tell myself I will try to keep on top of it but it rarely happens 🙈

Do you think it's bad to have pubic hair?

eblue · 12/01/2024 21:15

@OpalOrchid No, but it's personal preference in my opinion. I find it uncomfortable when it's too long and untamed.

Much more embarrassing things happen when giving birth than showing a bit of pubic hair 😅

Teacherprebaby · 12/01/2024 21:20

Why do people feel the need to comment 'why do you care', or 'go natural who cares'? The person posting cares, that's why they posted. Jesus, women post on here for advice not to be patronised.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 12/01/2024 21:20

I had a minor gynaecological procedure recently and they instructed me not to shave it. Honestly you don’t need to worry. Health care professionals have sen it all.

Fluffyowl00 · 12/01/2024 21:20

Shave lightly blind over the Long bits that annoy you with a razor like Gillette Venus and don’t worry. You won’t see it for 6 months after the birth either!
