Getting rid of pubic hair during pregnancy

eblue · 12/01/2024 15:05

I'm embarrassed to say it's been a while since I've done it 😬 and it's now at a point where's it's too long and actually quite itchy. Pre pregnancy I preferred it hairless, but I find it so difficult to shave due to size of bump/getting in the right position etc. I can't reach all of the places that I need to.

How do others do it? I'm worried about the risk of infection but it really needs sorting. I've got hair removal cream, I'm thinking of maybe trying that tonight.

Yh you can't call if creepy.

Post menopausal women often have no pubes either.

Also a vagina that has had regular sex or past out babies is not going to look like a child's.

Its painful for me in the upper middle when the hair is too long and find it catches on my underwear.

So many things aren't natural, like cutting your nails, using soap, the Internet, abortions, microwaving food. I mean how far do you want to go.

How times have changed.. l had my eldest in 1985.. my husband trimmed me but the midwife still shaved me before l gave birth..
1993 had my second daughter.. my husband shaved me.. the midwife said l needed have bothered because they don't reccomend it.🤷‍♀️.

That's weird - the midwife shaved me before my c-section in 1998 !

StillStuckInTheShed · 12/01/2024 18:12

Imagine the responses If OP was posting gere to say her DH told her to just leave it, it's natural... surely she can cope with hair she doesn't like or even want.

@Meadowflower2023 this is a good idea. I usually use a ladyshaver over the whole area and it takes it all off. I assume a beard trimmer would have a similar effect. I talc the area first to avoid any chaffing and rubbing too

Oh, I've never tried the talc tip but will give it a go. Also another tip (as I do shave the sides when I have a spa day and the like) a quick sweep over with Dove dry stick deodorant and you get no red bumps (apparently strippers and dancers use this method 🤷🏼‍♀️)

Leave it be? Who actually shaves and waxes normal hair that’s there for a reason?

Clearinguptheclutter · 12/01/2024 19:12

I didn’t remove it but did get dh to give it a trim with his clippers I think !

Most people.

DinoRodney · 12/01/2024 19:14

When so pregnant they can’t see it?

TitusMoan · 12/01/2024 19:15

Cakencookieobsessed · 12/01/2024 19:13

Most people.

How do you know it’s ‘most people’?

bzarda · 12/01/2024 19:19

I used hair removal cream but looking back I can't believe I bothered, now with a baby I hardly ever have time to shave and I don't care at all but it was definitely something I was conscious of beforehand.

If its itchy you could always use conditioner?

SnappyDragony · 12/01/2024 19:19

Lots of conditioner as shaving cream, sharp razor and a mirror. I went blind towards the end, very carefully.

I don't think most people do.

I couldn't give a flying one in all honesty. She can remove every inch of hair from her entire body if she wants. Whoever she is!!! I am giving my advice.

What has that got to do with you?! Busybody!

Ha you're funny with your passive aggressive comment trying to make women feel shit about having choice in their own body hair. Memo: it's up to us as individuals if we want a wild muff or not.

goldfinchfan · 12/01/2024 17:20

why on earth does this matter? us older mums grew hair without embarrasment and your concern is kind of creepy/ only children are naturally without pubic hair.
surely your DP/DH can cope with some hair ?

Can you 'older mums' read?

She said it's itchy and uncomfortable. Nothing to do with her partner's preference. Or yours.

twnety · 12/01/2024 19:21

eblue · 12/01/2024 15:07

@SparkyBlue I'd honestly be too embarrassed for anybody to see it the way it is now. I know they've seen it all before but still. I've never waxed before either

You're going to be pushing a baby out of there, not in a beauty parade

Most people.

Agree to disagree then but there's a massive market for hair removal products.

theduchessofspork · 12/01/2024 19:23

Trimmer

You won’t cut yourself or continue the shave/itch cycle

It’s itchy cos it’s growing through, TBF. That would pass.

Maybe, maybe not. It didn't warrant a comment about her being a creep.

What a weird thread to end up in a good old-fashioned MN bunfight

Why are you embarrassed about having perfectly natural pubic hair?

This

goldfinchfan · 12/01/2024 19:33

Boomboomshakeshaketheroom

Can't you read yourself !

I didn't say she was a creep, only that it is a creepy thing for her DP to want a hairless vag at this time.
Being itchy is a minor annoyance while pregnant and why bother? really weird as currently pubic hair is seen as "unclean"
Though before my time mums were shaved before giving birth. I am not sure why.

Daniagainagainagain · 12/01/2024 19:38

TMess · 12/01/2024 16:34

People get very wound up about this topic OP just ignore! It’s your body. I’ve always kept up hair removal even during pregnancy because it’s one thing I can do to feel like “me”.

Don't they just!

DH was shaving me for the last few weeks of pregnancy. I know it's nothing to be embarrassed about. Pubes are natural blah blah, I just don't like the look of them, I find them itchy and uncomfortable and I feel more comfortable with no hair on my vulva. Nothing to do with sexualising, I got rid of my hair way before I was having sex.

Some people just don't like having hair down there and prefer being a baldy and that's okay, some people love having a bit and some people love a bush, and that's okay too.

OP - just get your partner / husband to shave you. I did she felt a million times better!
