Getting rid of pubic hair during pregnancy

I'm embarrassed to say it's been a while since I've done it 😬 and it's now at a point where's it's too long and actually quite itchy. Pre pregnancy I preferred it hairless, but I find it so difficult to shave due to size of bump/getting in the right position etc. I can't reach all of the places that I need to.

How do others do it? I'm worried about the risk of infection but it really needs sorting. I've got hair removal cream, I'm thinking of maybe trying that tonight.

In what way is it uncomfortable when long and natural? I really don't understand. I can understand it might be while growing out after a shave. But I honestly am not even aware of my pubic hair.

It's hard to explain but sometimes it actually catches in my underwear and I can "feel" the hair more when I wear leggings which are obviously tight

DH always did mine with hair removal cream for me when I got too big during pregnancy to do it myself. He also would file my feet as well when I couldn't reach them.

Can't you read yourself !

I didn't say she was a creep, only that it is a creepy thing for her DP to want a hairless vag at this time.
Being itchy is a minor annoyance while pregnant and why bother? really weird as currently pubic hair is seen as "unclean"
Though before my time mums were shaved before giving birth. I am not sure why.

In case you missed it the first and second time... OP asked for advice to deal with her hair to improve her own comfort. No mention of her DP 'wanting a hairless vag at this time' Confused

What you think of pubic hair, what you do with your own hair, what other mums did in the past... completely irrelevant. Your 'creepy/children/really weird' comments about it were deliberately bitchy and you know it.

I think the OP saying she is embarrassed about having pubic hair is quite 'bitchy' really. Like those of us who have pubic hair should be ashamed.

olympicsrock · 12/01/2024 23:00

I’m sorry I just can’t understand why you would be more comfortable putting yourself through the palaver of shaving waxing or doing Veet when heavily pregnant. You have a normal healthy body about to bring a child into the world! A quick trim if you can manage it but anything else - WHY ???

DillDanding · 12/01/2024 23:04

I’d just get it all waxed, and get your partner to trim it first if you can’t reach it.

MN gets all frothy about pube removal, but some of us just like it bare.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 12/01/2024 23:04

Just leave it be.

Oh rubbish. It's really not about you, no need to make it so.

Just upthread we literally had a random on the internet asking the OP for a full explanation of how her vulva gets itchy because this poster needs to 'understand' ?!

OP is an actual person with a body which she is in control of. Not a concept for you to argue about.

Why is she embarrassed about have pubic hair then?

eblue · 12/01/2024 15:07

@SparkyBlue I'd honestly be too embarrassed for anybody to see it the way it is now. I know they've seen it all before but still. I've never waxed before either

Last Summer was my first time having it all waxed off, it was brilliant. It helped that I have been going to the same lady for years for other waxing etc.
It helps massively if the person is well experienced and uses the right wax etc.

Mine was long too, it really doesn't matter. I would just go with the area clean and fresh and the rest doesn't matter.

Redruby2020 · 12/01/2024 23:39

Sorry OP i hadn't thought about how different it can be below having it waxed off whilst pregnant lol. So maybe you might want to leave that option for now, but obviously people do get it done 🤷🏻‍♀️

Exactly. It’s her choice. The OP asked for advice on how to do something, not a lecture on why she shouldn’t do it or demands to know the reason why. Personally, l find it far more comfortable and practical to be hair free. I don’t do it for anyone else’s benefit and have been that way since late teens; 40s now.

Moving on, OP, l see you have now had a go. You might find the double sided magnifying No 7 make up mirror, available in Boots helpful. Some are illuminated. You might find similar cheaper elsewhere.

And congrats on your expected arrival.

WandaWonder · 13/01/2024 04:22

I have no admit in pregnancy removing hair was not anything I thought of at any stage ever

whirlingdevonish · 13/01/2024 07:28

Oh ok. Maybe you're blessed with particularly luxuriant hair down there then!
Honestly though, if you think for a minute a midwife will even give your floof half a thought, you really are mistaken. And as I said, a bit of hair is the least of your concerns when giving birth. And fact we're evolved to have hair to protect us from infection. it's good stuff. Try to focus on looking after yourself in other ways, and good luck with your birth. Exciting times!

Teacherprebaby · 13/01/2024 07:45

It's not about you understanding the post. Do you have advice? No. Ok then.

Teacherprebaby · 13/01/2024 07:47

Seriously?

Teacherprebaby · 13/01/2024 07:49

No.no one waxes...wonder who uses the millions of beauticians...crazy.

Teacherprebaby · 13/01/2024 07:50

Why are so many women on this thread being so unnecessarily bitchy? Can you help? No? Then f**k off.

whirlingdevonish · 13/01/2024 07:59

Well they are being helpful - they're pointing out that midwives would prefer mums left the hair there because it's a natural infection barrier.
And bitchiness? I kind of think it's weird to project embarrassment of a natural phenomenon on a public forum where a large number of women will have the feature the OP is embarrassed about.
Op can of course make her own choices. But be informed.
When my mum gave birth to me I. 1966 (I am old!) she was shaved at the hospital because that was the advice then. It isn't now. Knowledge has moved on.

Muffs are meant to be hairy. What’s ‘lol’ about it?

This hairless business is all fed indirectly by porn.

Of course, that explains why hair removal was a service offered in bathhouses in Ancient Rome doesn’t it? No? Oh, l thought not.

l assume all those criticising and lecturing about someone choosing hair removal have hairy underarms, hairy legs and never go to the hairdressers. Goodness me, that would be tampering with nature.

KinderEggg · 15/01/2024 11:05

Laser Hair Removal. I am completely hairless or very thin after 2 sessions.
i bought 6 sessions.
