Getting rid of pubic hair during pregnancy

eblue · 12/01/2024 15:05

I'm embarrassed to say it's been a while since I've done it 😬 and it's now at a point where's it's too long and actually quite itchy. Pre pregnancy I preferred it hairless, but I find it so difficult to shave due to size of bump/getting in the right position etc. I can't reach all of the places that I need to.

How do others do it? I'm worried about the risk of infection but it really needs sorting. I've got hair removal cream, I'm thinking of maybe trying that tonight.

Whatever your opinions on it the op is uncomfortable with the amount of public hair she currently has and is asking for tips to remove it easily. She's not trying to spark a debate.

eblue · 12/01/2024 16:20

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with hair, just personally I don't like having so much. I know HCP have seen it all but I don't want so much hair there

Why not just leave it be??!!

Because she doesn't want to. Is that OK with you?

Nobody is having a debate. The easiest way to deal with pubes is to leave them be. It itches less when it's grown back!

I couldn't give a flying one in all honesty. She can remove every inch of hair from her entire body if she wants. Whoever she is!!! I am giving my advice.

What has that got to do with you?! Busybody!

StuffLoriThangs · 12/01/2024 16:26

But OP has actually said it’s now too long and itchy. So doesn’t solve the “stops the itchiness of it growning back”.

Toomuch44 · 12/01/2024 16:27

Assuming you have a partner/husband, ask him to do it.

Daisies12 · 12/01/2024 16:27

Leave it be, those creams have a risk you'll get some inside yourself. It's more hygienic to have hair there.

OpalOrchid · 12/01/2024 16:29

I don't care if the OP wants to be bald. I was just wondering why she would be embarrassed by something that is natural. Unless she thinks pubic hair must be removed.

Meadowflower2023 · 12/01/2024 16:30

I use my husband's electricity beard trimmer thing (🫣) with a short guard on it so it's not all off just down to a few mil, no ingrown hairs just nice and neat.

oneflewoverthe · 12/01/2024 16:32

@Meadowflower2023 this is a good idea. I usually use a ladyshaver over the whole area and it takes it all off. I assume a beard trimmer would have a similar effect. I talc the area first to avoid any chaffing and rubbing too

DogsAreBetterThanHusbands · 12/01/2024 16:32

It was the last thing on my mind at that stage. I really don't think the midwives cared either way.

Remove it if you like but you have nothing to be embarrassed about if you don't.

Well maybe my elderly pubes are different to those attached to the rest of women in the world because the only time they've caused itching is when midwives took a Bic to them in prep for my c/sections. It was a close-run thing between the pain of the wound and the itching of the hair growing back.

But what would I know...!!!

TMess · 12/01/2024 16:34

People get very wound up about this topic OP just ignore! It’s your body. I’ve always kept up hair removal even during pregnancy because it’s one thing I can do to feel like “me”.

LuckySantangelo35 · 12/01/2024 16:42

All those saying leaving it be, it’s natural - so what?? Op doesn’t like it. She may be pregnant but she still has bodily autonomy and can do what she likes to her own body

ru53 · 12/01/2024 16:48

OP it’s advised not to remove pubic hair near the end of pregnancy due to risk of infection if you need c section or episiotomy- you can trim it if it’s itching

EnjoyTheMushrooms · 12/01/2024 16:49

Last baby, I trimmed anything long with scissors. Then got a shaver with the bikini trimmer and just used the trimmer over the whole area, which makes it v short. Ive used it loads and never ever nicked or cut myself. Pregnant now and will be doing the same in a month or so as I near 34 ish weeks.

I’ll add the long hair never bothers me. Doesn’t itch. I go ages with it au natural 😆 you could plait it down there at the moment 😆 I trim with scissors if it’s getting too long and wash really really well daily with a gentle neutral type of soap, def not a perfumed shower gel

meringue33 · 12/01/2024 16:51

Don’t use Veet, you’ll get thrush.

Definitely in the natural camp post baby!!

therealcookiemonster · 12/01/2024 16:53

@eblue OP whatever you do, don't use hair removal cream... not suitable for sensitive areas and as it will be a bit tricky putting it on, you might accidentally get some in the wrong place and it can really hurt/cause damage.

I know you feel self conscious, but trust me professional waters do not care. I used to get waxed before I had laser and they really don't care. I also have a job (healthcare) where we see everything and honestly it doesn't even register in my brain. I am far more focused doing whatever task I am supposed to be doing.

trimmer option is also good, but you will face similar issues to shaving and you can still cut yourself. so waxing is the best option especially as it lasts for ages.

JanuaryJunipers · 12/01/2024 16:54

Why not just trim it rather than shave it off?

BrightLightTonight · 12/01/2024 16:59

eblue · 12/01/2024 15:30

Shaving blind worries me in case I end up cutting myself 😬

Ask you partner to shave you

ActDottie · 12/01/2024 17:16

I shaved blind in the bath. Made lots of foam and soap and just went for it. It have avenue razor though and I’ve never ever cut myself with it so I reckon you need a razor that’s of good quality to avoid cutting.

goldfinchfan · 12/01/2024 17:20

why on earth does this matter? us older mums grew hair without embarrasment and your concern is kind of creepy/ only children are naturally without pubic hair.
surely your DP/DH can cope with some hair ?

Elphamouche · 12/01/2024 17:26

Veet :) I have never shaved, I always use vert, everywhere. Just don’t leave it on too long - that fucking hurts!

Doesn’t matter that you can’t see it and you can’t cut yourself.

Verv · 12/01/2024 17:28

Send DP/DH down there with a headlamp and some bikini clippers.
Still short but less risk of accidental nicks.
