What wintery dish are you cooking today?

I've got time today to pop to the shops and put a stew or something in the oven.
It's so cold today, so the idea of the oven on, slow cooking something is appealing.

Im here seeking inspiration and trying to find some joy in this freezing weather.

Beef short ribs in the slow cooker. Got a good sear on them first, used far too much red wine to deglaze so think I might end up more beouf bourguignon than ribs! Leftovers tomorrow, and I'll do a crumble for dessert (lots of citrus fruits to get through tonight).

Leek, potato and flageolet bean soup with homemade garlic croutons. It smells lovely!

Flidina · 10/01/2024 18:22

We've had beef and ale casserole with mash, cheesy dumplings, carrots and peas. Tomorrow I'm making a creamy slow cooker butter chicken curry, we'll have it with rice and naan bread. I'm currently making lentil and veg soup in the slowcooker too.

Pot roast beef and root vegetables, with mashed potatoes and red wine gravy.

Pollyannamex · 10/01/2024 18:30

I made a fish pie tonight

Footprintsinthesand · 10/01/2024 18:36

Just had Cumberland sausage, mash, carrots and peas with onion gravy. Was bloody lovely!

Pot roast venison with cauliflower cheese, carrots and broccoli. Lovely.
Although, DS came home and said 'oh.no, it was stew for lunch as well' 🙄

Shock Stew twice a day is living the dream as far as I'm concerned.

Doggymummar · 10/01/2024 18:51

Looks delicious 😋

It really is! Rice works as well and I often do it alongside a roast chicken but just as good as its own meal with pita bread or something.

Made a really tasty spinach, lentil, and sweet potato dhal.
Very easy. BBC Good Food.

Really delicious and easy - my go to winter recipe if I don't want to do too much cooking .... whole chicken in slow cooker with a tin of cream of mushroom soup and a packet (dry ingredients) of French Onion Soup (always got a packet of this in the cupboard). On high for four hours. Lovely tender chicken and loads of creamy oniony gravy for mashed potato. Leftovers as well - nice with noodles or chicken. All the effort is in opening the tin of soup and tearing the top off the onion soup mix!! Tastes like you've spent ages making a creamy sauce :)

Frenchlady14 · 10/01/2024 20:15

Meant to say nice with noodles or pasta !😂

YoongiMarryMe · 10/01/2024 20:43

Another one making chilli!

We're triple carbing with rice, tortilla chips, and homemade chips (made in the deep fat fryer!). Don’t let the MN under- eaters get me!

msmatcha · 10/01/2024 20:52

Celery soup and crusty bread

Teddleshon · 10/01/2024 20:58

Sausage and chestnut pasta, made with M&S Truffle and Parmesan sausages.

moggerhanger · 10/01/2024 21:01

Polish sausage casserole - kielbasa with onion, celery, mushrooms, savoy cabbage, tinned tomatoes, garlic, paprika and juniper berries. Basically using sad veg out of the fridge!

Isometimeswonder · 10/01/2024 21:02

We had cottage pie. Lots of veg in the meat mixture and red wine!
I use sweet potato and normal potato mash on top.

Claysta · 10/01/2024 21:03

We were out tonight at a school parents eve about GCSE options for DS, so we dug out a shepherds pie from the freezer with (I did want veg) but DH went for baked beans … brown sauce was optional …was lovely!

Wavingnotdrown1ng · 10/01/2024 21:07

Inspired by another thread this week, a slow cooker lentil soup with carrots and sweet potato, with grated cheese on top and a pitta bread on the side . Stewed apple with cinnamon, sultanas and pecans served with a dollop of Greek yoghurt.

Really looking forward to trying some of the suggestions on this thread.

HanSB · 10/01/2024 23:17

Tried out a new recipe tonight, sausage and cauliflower with kale soup which was really delicious!

Inspired by bigos I guess. If I'd had sauerkraut I'd have put some in!

AdaColeman · 23/01/2024 10:47
