Something just happened and I have no explanation for it

Six years ago I was in Belfast (I live in the North of England) and I lost my debit card, I cancelled the card and got a new one. I know for a fact I lost it there because it was in my purse (It was my only card and the one I had been using on my trip to Belfast) and I left my bag on a bus and never got it back.

Today I had a new couch and chair delivered, When the delivery guys left I took the seat cushions off the couch (It’s the kind you can move the cushions and swap them around etc) and there was a debit card there, Picked it up and its the exact one I lost in Belfast six years ago.

Never even sat on this couch yet so it’s not like it fell out of my pocket, because I don’t have any pockets and I don’t have the same clothes I had six years ago, Since losing the card I have decorated my entire flat, All the rooms were empty with no furniture etc as I got it all done room by room, The couch arrived today and the debit card was in the couch.

I’m trying to figure out how this happened and to be honest I'm stumped!

Anything strange like this happened to someone else? Did you ever figure it out?

That’s BIZARRE!!

bendypines · 09/01/2024 14:04

Yikes!

TinaYouFatLard · 09/01/2024 14:07

That’s crazy. You will have to recount this story every time there is a “tell me your weird/coincidence/spooky stories” thread on MN!

Mybusyday · 09/01/2024 14:08

That is sooo bizarre!

Tighginn · 09/01/2024 14:12

Did they remove the old couch frist?

YouveGotAFastCar · 09/01/2024 14:13

That's bizarre.

I presume it's expired now?

Naptrappedmummy · 09/01/2024 14:16

It must just be an absolutely stunning coincidence!

IcedupTulip · 09/01/2024 14:16

That’s so weird!

MILTOBE · 09/01/2024 14:17

What are the dates on the card?

mynameiscalypso · 09/01/2024 14:17

I once lost my engagement ring in a taxi in a different county and it turned up in the lifts at my office about 6 months later. I can only assume it got caught in an item of clothing or tear in something and stayed there for a while.

PossumintheHouse · 09/01/2024 14:17

Well that’s a batshit glitch in the matrix. 😳

LakeTiticaca · 09/01/2024 14:18

Jesus that's really freaky😳

Aquamarine1029 · 09/01/2024 14:19

Fucking hell. That's fucking WILD.

honeyandfizz · 09/01/2024 14:20

Wow freaky.

MILTOBE · 09/01/2024 14:20

It's like something off Derren Brown.

Silverbirchtwo · 09/01/2024 14:21

I'm with it came back somehow in your clothes, got wedged in the old sofa and transferred to the new one by the delivery men.

Or the new one came from Belfast and the person who found your card, worked in the factory and dropped it into your new couch...

amylou8 · 09/01/2024 14:22

Did they have to squeeze the couch through doorways? Could the card have been lodged somewhere in the house and become dislodged as they maneuvered the couch past it?

ThreeRingCircus · 09/01/2024 14:23

Or the new one came from Belfast and the person who found your card, worked in the factory and dropped it into your new couch...

This was my theory too. Even though it's absolutely nuts but extremely weird coincidences do happen.

Are you absolutely positive that it's the exact same debit card? With the old expiry date?

Silverbirchtwo · 09/01/2024 14:24

Or the person who stole your purse had remorse later so tracked you down and dropped the card onto the new couch as it was being delivered to return it to you.

MeinKraft · 09/01/2024 14:25

Wow that's nuts! I read a similar story a few years ago about a missing photo that turned up in a book - found the link after some frantic googling! www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-63647723.amp

Doormatnomore · 09/01/2024 14:31

Maybe it’s couches? My mum thought I swallowed her engagement ring when I was a toddler, no xray and they assumed it had “passed” without incident. She’d taken it off to put on handcream and then reached for it just as I swallowed. We were sitting on the couch.

Anyway moved house and got a new couch. When she was cleaning that couch to sell , when I was in primary school, the hoover sucked up the ring! She was all the phone for ages telling everyone.

Handsnotwands · 09/01/2024 14:31

that's v v weird

not as weird but bank card related

DH has had the same PIN since it was auto-issued about a thousand years ago. when we got DD her first account they sent the card and PIN it was the same as DH's (different banks, unconnected accounts).

I'm no mathematician but i'd be interested in the odds of that

Notquitegrownup2 · 09/01/2024 14:35

Wow!!!
Can we clarify whether the couch was brand new (as opposed to pre-owned/new to you) and if so whether the company manufactures in N. Ireland . . .
(Far too invested in knowing/finding a possible solution
)

Floatinginatincan · 09/01/2024 14:35

Sounds made up to me. Just like then jewelry that mysteriously turned up in the pub in last week's thread.

1 in 10,000. Not that short when you think how many PINs must be issued every day. Still, a nice little coincidence 🙂
