Something just happened and I have no explanation for it

Six years ago I was in Belfast (I live in the North of England) and I lost my debit card, I cancelled the card and got a new one. I know for a fact I lost it there because it was in my purse (It was my only card and the one I had been using on my trip to Belfast) and I left my bag on a bus and never got it back.

Today I had a new couch and chair delivered, When the delivery guys left I took the seat cushions off the couch (It’s the kind you can move the cushions and swap them around etc) and there was a debit card there, Picked it up and its the exact one I lost in Belfast six years ago.

Never even sat on this couch yet so it’s not like it fell out of my pocket, because I don’t have any pockets and I don’t have the same clothes I had six years ago, Since losing the card I have decorated my entire flat, All the rooms were empty with no furniture etc as I got it all done room by room, The couch arrived today and the debit card was in the couch.

I’m trying to figure out how this happened and to be honest I'm stumped!

Anything strange like this happened to someone else? Did you ever figure it out?

Different Type of scenario but equally bizarre.

A woman who lives near me went missing, experiencing poor mental health. I had this weird feeling that I would find her - I don’t know her, have never met her, and have no “psychic” beliefs or abilities.

By the next day, she still hadn’t come home or been found, and I still had this unshakeable image in my mind of where she was. It wasn’t a precise location but more an idea of what it looked like/was surrounded by. I got into my car, drove to somewhere that might fit that description, but no joy. Did the same again, and found her almost immediately.

I had a similarly weird experience. I have five children with their ages very spread out. My third child (a son who is called James - this is important) bought himself a Land Rover (something he'd wanted for years) from Penzance. It was one of those with just front seats and solid sides and someone had lined the inside with plywood some time ago.

He wanted to change it into a Defender so began with putting windows in the sides for which he had to take the plywood lining out. Being nervous about taking such a big step (cutting holes in it) he did it with my husband (his stepfather) while we were visiting. They took off the plywood and underneath they found a sheet of printer paper stuck to the side with a drawing on it. A young child's drawing of a church. And written on it, in my handwriting, was 'For James, love Jake' - who is his much younger brother who loves churches.

They went and got me and we all stared at this picture. It was clearly identifiable as one of Jake's many drawings and it was of his then favourite subject - a church. He never drew people. And it was my handwriting, and on top of that, I could remember Jake drawing pictures 'for people' and me writing on who they were for.

And yet, this picture had been inside a Land Rover we'd never seen before James bought it, that had come from Penzance (and the plywood looked like it had been there a long time) and Jake had done that drawing while we were living in France, probably ten years before this occurred.

We have never solved the mystery.

@waterhorse123 That has creeped me out!

MILTOBE · 14/01/2024 20:20

@HobbyHorse30 That's amazing. Was she still alive?

UmaniCaroline · 14/01/2024 20:27

That's amazing @waterhorse123 Great story but very weird.

HobbyHorse30 · 14/01/2024 20:46

She was, and still is. Even more strangely, it turned out she was closely linked to someone who I’d very recently met through work. I only discovered that when the person messaged me to thank me, and explained how they knew her

MumTeacherofMany · 14/01/2024 21:21

@waterhorse123 that gave me chills!

I began reading a book called "hide and seek" was 3 chapters in, really enjoying it. I have my book shelf next to my bed. I read in bed and always put the current book I'm reading back on top of the book shelf (it's v low, I use it for my drink at nighttime too) the book is gone!!! Makes absolutely no sense!! I've hunted high & low in my whole bedroom & house.

The book is certainly living up to it's name!

ChanelNo19EDT · 14/01/2024 22:03

Was that by Andrea Mara, It was good! If you find it, finish it. That book shelf sounds perfect.

I had a few spooky experiences like that with The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters! I kept losing the book.

I have another mystery involving peacocks - and the same youngest son. He was about ten, small for his age and we were living in a small village of about five houses in France at the time. He had a deep love of all birds and a big collection of chickens he was very attached to.

One day we came home in the car to find a young peacock fluttering around in our large dutch barn and the dogs in the kennels going mad with excitement about it. We succeeded in catching it and the only thing we could do was put it in a very large dog cage. Youngest son was overjoyed and thought he had gained a pet peacock. As it was young it still didn't have any long tail feathers.

My French was pretty good so I rang our local mairie and spoke to the secretary. "Nous avons trouvé un paon." He was nonplussed. "Un pont?" Pronunciation from someone English being identical, he thought I'd found a bridge. I explained it was a large bird and he finally got it, but was somewhat surprised. And no, as far as he knew, no one had lost one. I also rang the gendarmerie and told them in case anyone turned up looking for one.

Several days of proud peacock ownership passed for our son, who was home educated. Then, while I was teaching him in the house, my husband was working on the car in the barn. He came hurrying over. "The peacock's vanished. The cage is open." I hurried over to have a look. "No it hasn't." And sure enough, there was a peacock in the cage. Only it was a DIFFERENT peacock. This one was a fully adult male with a huge tail who was a bit of an interference fit and very angry.

Another phone call to the mairie ensued and a long explanation as to how the first one had vanished without a trace to be replaced with a second huge bird. One very pleased ten year old though.

A few days later brought two angry old French farmers to our door. "Your son has stolen our peacock." They came from a farm nearly a mile away, along a very open road. Yes, it turned out it was their peacock, but there was no way our small ten year old had carried either huge bird a mile in his arms in broad summer daylight along an open road. Especially not the really angry adult male. He could barely hold the young one in his arms - I have the photo to prove it.

So how on earth did they get into our barn? And more importantly, how did the first one vanish and the second one appear - INSIDE the cage? While my son was doing lessons with me in the house and my husband was working on the car in the barn? A mystery we have never solved 13 years on.

It'll be under the duvet or under your pillow.

MumTeacherofMany · 15/01/2024 12:34

@ChanelNo19EDT I can't remember who it was by, I'd have to ask my friend as I'd borrowed it from her, so hopefully it turns back up!!

MumTeacherofMany · 15/01/2024 12:36

@determinedtomakethiswork unfortunately not under there. The bedding has been changed twice since its been lost and the few things that are under my bed have been pulled out and checked

JaneJeffer · 15/01/2024 12:40

@waterhorse123 the big peacock snuck in and opened the cage to let the little guy out who promptly shoved Big P into the cage and locked the door.

TeddyToes · 15/01/2024 12:58

One morning, I woke up at around 6am and put in some eyedrops for my dry eyes. The lid of the bottle popped off and shot away somewhere, so I got out of bed and started looking for it. I searched everywhere – in the bedclothes, on the floor, under the bed and bedside table. It was nowhere to be seen.

While looking under the bed with my phone torch, I did see a book I'd been hunting for, so that was good (important detail).

Anyway, I gave up after a while, but I didn't want the drops to dry out so I got the lid off another little bottle of something else that was nearly finished. It didn't really fit, but was better than nothing.

After that, I didn't sleep again and got up an hour later. I was amazed to see the eyedrops on the bedside table with the proper lid on. More than amazed, it was really freaky.

I just assumed it had been some really weird dream that I'd somehow remembered as an event (even though I couldn't really believe that as it was just such a real experience). But then I remembered seeing the long-lost book under the bed, and when I looked it was where I'd seen it, behind some junk I'd shoved under the bed. And the lid of the other bottle was missing too. Bizarrely, that turned up right at the bottom of the bed.

Incredibly mundane, but just really weird and I've no explanation!
