Apologies if there is already a thread but I couldn’t find one. What on earth has gone on between Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice during Strictly?AA is apparently taking legal action against the BBC claiming she has PTSD.

why is someone saying they are her psychiatrist and posting on here? Shock

They're not. Read again.

You are basing your judgement on the glossy finished product the BBC screen. You have absolutely no idea what she had to deal with that was not made public.

As for being an actress, MeToo passed you by I presume?

She didn't witness death, she wasn't in fear of her life, she didn't see her friends & colleagues die. You're right I don't know what she had to deal with but I would doubt if any if it meets the clinical definition of ptsd. Just because you have no idea what you're talking about doesn't give you the right to come after me quoting metoo. You literally have no idea

oh very nice @SaffronSpice

And this thread is why most women do not speak up.

Isn't it horrific?
I'm speechless. The judgment and misogyny is actually upsetting.
I have PTSD myself not related to war or fear of death or anything like that.
The ignorance on here astounds me.

And someone seriously called her a snowflake??
Frightening stuff

Over40Overdating · 08/01/2024 19:51

Anyone who has worked with AA over the last few years could have told you how this would end.

Not a GP fan by any means but I hope he has a good legal team behind him and that he fights fire with fire because that woman would go outside in a rain storm with no umbrella and come back in claiming it was someone else’s fault she’s wet and try to pin the blame elsewhere if it makes her the victim and brings attention.

What people see on social media is a very far cry from the reality of who she is in a professional setting. Some of it is due to genuine MH issues but there’s also a lot of it that’s just down to her not being a very nice person. At all.

Agree, I’m being treated for PTSD relating to an abusive relationship. Don’t see why a workplace bully would be any different. People are so judgmental. Perhaps they wouldn’t consider us such snowflakes if they ever had to walk a mile in our shoes.

Frances0911 · 08/01/2024 19:54

Oh well, they have an excellent (nicer) replacement in Vito, should he get kicked out.

lavenderphase · 08/01/2024 19:54

I will assume that if she is stating she has PTSD this will have been diagnosed by a mental health professional using their knowledge, experience and diagnostic tools and guidance.

It's staggering how you all seem to think you know better than her medical team.

Maireas · 08/01/2024 19:05

No, they only meet in the first episode, they have two weeks' training, thereafter one week.

They start training before then, surely, as there is the celeb group dance? They may not be with their pros at that point.

Willmafrockfit · 08/01/2024 19:55

8 weeks or so isnt it?

The most sensible post on this thread by far

Maireas · 08/01/2024 19:55

@EncantoSpice I am sorry to hear that you have been suffering from PTSD and I hope you are recovering 💐

Willmafrockfit · 08/01/2024 19:55

anyway it is bad that this has all come in the middle of the case

If it doesn't she won't win her case based on a claim of ptsd. If it does meet the clinical definition, she has a reasonable chance. Her lawyers presumably think there's a case to be answered.

onyxgirl1 · 08/01/2024 19:56

I've recently been diagnosed with PTSD myself, not related to combat or fear of death. I also work in a professional capacity with people with PTSD and C-PTSD.

It's actually scary how people can be so sure they're correct when they are so so wrong. There is some dangerous and offensive stuff on this thread.

Phonedown · 08/01/2024 19:56

@Over40Overdating have the courage of your convictions and let us know how you know so much about Amanda Abbington?

Exactly. We believe women when it suits us.

Don't be too uppity or dramatic though because we don't like our women like that.

It's fucking tiresome.

Halfmanhalfcake · 08/01/2024 19:56

@Over40Overdating I can personally testify to exactly this as well.

No, I don't think so? I'm not sure about the group dance to be honest. You could be right.

No, Vito is already on the show, he's had several partners now. In fact he won with Ellie Leach! He won't be a replacement.

Halfmanhalfcake · 08/01/2024 19:59

I think often with these things it’s a genuine personality clash, under extreme pressure of love shows / careers depending on it that could be explosive.

LondonLass91 · 08/01/2024 20:03

FireWaterSmall · 08/01/2024 18:56

I actually quite admire her if she does sue.

She's an older woman (51?) and maybe she's got to the stage where she gives zero fucks about pickme behaviour or if people judge her or think she's a snowflake or not.

I know when I've been targeted by sexist bullies it's often as they don't feel I perform submissive femininity enough for them...

I don't really follow the cast that much, but maybe the guy wanted a "young looking partner" (ie all the fuss about spending time with Laura Whitmore, who thought he was creepy anyway) then he gets A BOLSHY MIDDLE AGED WOMAN with short hair and decides to let loose.

Older woman?!?! How very dare you! We in our early 50s are only older than people younger ...😁

Horrible people can get PTSD too.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 08/01/2024 20:05

theDudesmummy · 08/01/2024 19:05

She could of course also try to take legal action in relation to non-PTSD mental health issues, if she felt them to be caused by her experience on Strictly. You don't have to have PTSD to sue for psychological damage (although you tend to get somewhat higher compensation if you do have the diagnosis).

@ATerrorofLeftovers the qualifying trauma does not have to involve a death at all, see my earlier post.

See the post about the ICD-10 definition of PTSD.

I’ll repeat - for those who are invested in applying the term PTSD more widely than the ICD-10 definition - the fact that a trauma or series of traumatic experiences doesn’t meet the definition of PTSD does NOT mean it wasn’t incredibly serious, or traumatising or disabling. I’m not sure how much plainly I can put it. The label shouldn’t be required to feel you’re being taken seriously.

I have, and I don't recognise this description. Not in the slightest I'm afraid.
