OP posts:
GameOfJones · 17/09/2024 16:18

"Nom"

If anyone writes it, or worse....says it out loud I immediately want to punch them. There are lots of phrases I dislike but this one makes me feel irrationally furious.

Bgfe · 17/09/2024 16:20

Clot.
Mole.
Wart.
People I love very much have been sick in the last few years from a stroke caused by a clot and a cancerous MOLE. But the words are so disgusting.

Cynic17 · 17/09/2024 16:27

Loved ones
Passed away (or, even worse, passed - in relation to death)
Train station (obviously, the correct phrase is "railway station")
Uni (instead of university)
Hubby

Probably any word that is some form of shortened or casual word, that just ends up sounding childish and stupid.
Or euphemisms - just use the proper word.

Justleaveitblankthen · 17/09/2024 17:17

"Bloods" for blood tests.

DragonInAmber · 17/09/2024 17:18

My bad.

Or any of the Americanisms that now are creeping into the UK English.

alloutofcareunits · 17/09/2024 17:20

When people punctuate the sentence with "me" e.g., "I love chocolate, me" or "I love the winter, me" arrggg obviously if you started with "I" then it's about you ffs. There's a carpet retailer that advertises on local radio with the slogan "I love carpets me" I would never ever buy from them because of it 😂

Neurodiversitydoctor · 17/09/2024 17:41

" I hear you" aka I am not going to take a blind bit of notice causes me absolute irrational rage.

IsThePopeCatholic · 17/09/2024 17:41

Boobs. So infantile.

cryinglaughing · 17/09/2024 17:44

(Most) people would look at you like you had a second head if you answered ‘I’m well’ to whether you’d like a drink or whatever.

You're quite right, if the question is about whether you'd like more drinks, but it does depend on the context. I was thinking of when people are just greeting you, in place of "Hello", etc.

abracadabra1980 · 17/09/2024 18:28

Gotten. I could kill.

DillDanding · 17/09/2024 18:29

I swear I never heard this in my life until my MIL gave me some of those 'Take a break' type magazines years ago. Always thought it a ridiculous phrase.

Some of those are awful. Lots of "Me and hubby ..."

Ribenaberry12 · 17/09/2024 19:12

Holibobs
Hubster
Making memories
This one (normally accompanying a photo of a partner)

Recommend me
"Cute" when used to describe someone attractive, rather than a kitten etc
Aspirational

bazoom · 17/09/2024 17:36

Why not passed away? Should it be died?

Yes, it should be "died".

People are ridiculous about this. I can't bear it when I hear or see "passed away", "passed over" or (shudder) just "passed".

It's DIED.
