There's a "fashion expert" on QVC who always says

' wear this with a little heel '

Gets me annoyed each time

DustyGrapevine · 17/09/2024 23:54

"We're pregnant"

gabbydanes · 17/09/2024 23:54

Mixed bag - when someone can't be bothered to explain what was good and what was crap

Sugarysnacks · 17/09/2024 23:57

Referring to items of clothing as “a piece”
Why not just say top/jacket/tee shirt or whatever. Is it more exclusive if it’s a piece? 🤷‍♀️

'First post nails it!' as a reply to a thread. Or as I saw last week 'As usual first post nails it!'.

I don't know what it is about it but it does awful things to my blood pressure.

MarkingBad · 18/09/2024 02:29

That's the kinda guy/gal I am
(bleugh)

Pimple
(yuck)

Babes/babe/hun or any other USA pet name bollocks

TulipCat · 18/09/2024 07:19

Blessed. Especially when accompanied by a hashtag.

EternallyDelighted · 18/09/2024 11:38

Twixmas, just seen it on another thread, sets my teeth on edge

HoppityBun · 18/09/2024 11:40

Iconic. Sneak peak. Demure. Gracious. Unbelievably. Incredibly. Awesome.

"Bloods" for blood tests.

I agree, I hate Meds as well.

Iconic is my absolute biggest hate. People have no imagination - interesting, celebrated, unique, unusual, first of its kind etc could be used but no, it's always bloody iconic. I always think of a painting of a saint and wonder what it's got to do with One Foot in the Grave (or whatever is supposedly 'iconic').

Yes, it should be "died".

People are ridiculous about this. I can't bear it when I hear or see "passed away", "passed over" or (shudder) just "passed".

It's DIED.

When my dad died I just couldn't bear to say the word, it was just so impossible that the words 'dad' and 'died' belonged in the same sentence. Even now, 2 years later, I am still tearful writing the word. So I said 'passed' or 'passed on' for as long as I needed to. I would never judge the words a grieving person chooses to use.

My dad died 2 years ago too. I had the opposite reaction and if anyone said ‘passed’ or ‘passed away’, it made me cross. He died. He didn’t ‘pass’ anywhere and I don’t need a euphemism for died or death.

cookiebee · 18/09/2024 14:13

“The salad was limp and flabby” said in many reviews by twats who read it elsewhere and think they are the next Jay Rayner.

cookiebee · 18/09/2024 14:19

Pregnant women who say they “just want to stay at home and nest”, I just instantly imagine a pregnant woman in one of her husbands baggy sweatshirts and lularoe leggings astride a nest in the lounge made from scatter cushions. Concerning parenthood as well I can’t bear the term ‘play date’, what happened to kids just having Darren over after school or Kelly going round Lucy’s for tea, where’s this formal play date crap come from. It kind of makes me feel kids aren’t allowed out these days unless escorted in an armoured van to someone’s house for their play date!

penguinbiscuits · 18/09/2024 14:51

Fab.

It is such a 50 y.o.+ word Grin

I just imagine an annoyed lady with a funky haircut who is demanding to speak with the manager.

TheAverageJoanne · 24/09/2024 06:42

Calling grown women a "little" anything. I've seen Amanda Holden called a little fitty for example. And I heard for the first time in ages Here Come The Girls by the Sugababes and they sing "I'm a little temptress" So infantilising.

Gotten is a good word. I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it perfect though. Certainly useful.

mugglewump · 27/09/2024 19:29

I hear what you are saying, but....

Clearly not given your opinion a moment's thought.
