Priti patel told my husband that people on minimum wage were just lazy

as you say, the list is endless

Are we allowed to mention crap parents and wanting girls to be less educated because then they will stay home and make babies?

GreekDogRescue · 07/01/2024 20:05

How will Starmergeddon be an improvement OP?
Half his cabinet don’t know what a woman is and the rest are fiddling their expenses. Then there is brainiac Dawn Butler who just reported Munsnet to the police.

jasflowers · 07/01/2024 20:06

A similar question is why the Tories seem okay with letting the NHS crash and burn. Do they want it privatised? Or is it just a case of not giving a shit?

I ve argued against the notion the Tories want to privatise health, they don't, they want to go back to pre 1948.
The wealthy pay and the poor, well, they die or rely on charity.

Evidence? look how they boast about food banks, its actually something to be ashamed off.

Piggywaspushed · 07/01/2024 20:07

I wonder what Labour will do about taxing the hugely wealthy energy providers?

AdamRyan · 07/01/2024 20:07

I also think I'd like to see better quality proposals from the Conservatives about how they address school attendance, that isn't about beating up parents over the "social contract". One of my kids has low attendance because the school are totally unequipped to support pupils with SEN and other MH issues, due to budget cuts meaning reduced staff and really high turnover. I'm fed up of the Tories blaming "parents" aka women for a situation that's arisen largely due to their own actions.

And let's not forget Braverman saying that being homeless was a lifestyle choice. I mean - is she a fascist?

Imagine if someone like her becomes head of the Tory party one day. God forbid.

Piggywaspushed · 07/01/2024 20:11

Yes, I felt a bit jittery about Phillipson today using ideas from the CSJ centre right think tank.
Attendance is hugely complex.

Starmer is competent, values driven and seeking to govern for public service reasons, not to make money and prop up his mates.

He's taken the shit show that was Labour under Corbyn and turned it into a functioning, credible opposition that represents a broad range of opinions in four years. I think that's pretty incredible and shows he must be a very competent leader who can unite people.

He's dealt uncompromisingly with anti-semitism in the party.

It's unfathomable to me that anyone would think Sunak's Conservatives are a better option. They just flail around, spunking money on failed "projects" with their mates and dreaming up crazy schemes and soundbites.

Also I don't want Cummings back anywhere near government thank you very much. The Conservatives obviously are keeping that option open for some reason.

There are also big companies get out of paying tax - Shell and Starbucks spring to mind. Is there a loophole that the government can't fix?

You scratch my back I’ll scratch yours.

I can imagine with the new oil and gas field licenses, those decisions in government, to go in that direction, is all about knowing they’re not going to be in power much longer, and feathering their individual nests for the future.

Not for actually acting in the best interests of anyone but themselves.

They’re being paid to act in the best interests of all of us.

More than half of his cabinet are women, I am sure they know what they are.

Reform UK is using Starmergeddon, are you inclined to vote for them?

So you think its ok for a woman to suffer personal attacks from MN users over the Brianna Ghey murder?

Incredible the Police didn't think there was a transphobic element to the murder, then again it is the Police.

I can see why you vote Reform.

It was ever thus. 🙄

Firefly2009 · 07/01/2024 20:37

Do you think that there will be a general election in May, and do you think at the next GE that Labour will win?

I am passionately hoping for both. I don’t know how much more I can take.

Firefly2009 · 07/01/2024 20:41

@Lonelycrab thanks for your comment. I think that’s it: I’ll scratch your back and you’ll scratch mine. I think it’s always been that way. What I am wondering now is how hard the Tories will fight to win. Do they know they’re on their way out so it’s now going to be about personal preservation (above winning if they don’t think they can)?

i don’t know the answer, I’m just wondering about this.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/01/2024 20:49

Tactical voting is beneficial and sometimes necessary in a democracy.

Dawn Butler reported MN to the police (or said she was going to) because people were criticizing her on twitter, and someone told her that the people on twitter were mumsnetters

Brianna Ghey's mother has spoken about the posts on MNet about the murder of her child. The threads were eventually deleted and rightly so.Sad

Just thinking out loud here but maybe Sunak is telling the truth about leaving the GE late, to perhaps ride on the hysteria around the US election as I’m sure there will be plenty of hysteria if Trump remains out of jail?

Maybe that’s tinfoil hat territory but idk anymore…

Something tells me we’re going to reach an all time low in the politics of 2024.

Given how disliked the Tories are currently, surely associating with Trump is only going to damage them further?
Its not Rishi reverse midas Sunak in action again is it?

BIossomtoes · 07/01/2024 21:13

My money’s still on 2 May. Sunak can’t afford another ten months of diminishing popularity.

Firefly2009 · 07/01/2024 21:14

If he loses one or both the Wellingborough (likely I think in the circumstances) and Kingswood (less likely) by-elections then there is even more momentum for anyone but the Tories going into the local elections.

Is Sunak prepared to bet that his party won't get rid of him in May?
