As I said I’ll respond on stuff but if people wish to not discuss it fine by me

Please do feel free to engage with other posters on other topics

It’s not just ‘toilets’ as in another post though

You don't actually respond to anything other than on your topic of interest. That is completely your prerogative, although I fail to see why that is. However, I am happy to talk about all topics and with anyone.

EasternStandard · 07/01/2024 19:46

jasflowers · 07/01/2024 19:44

Unless you define "single sex spaces" then Toilets is indeed what is being talked about and was extensively on the last thread.

What single sex space is more important than a women life?

On climate, Tory Chris Skidmore has stepped down as a MP in disgust at the gas and oil licences.

Not all bad then.

Some did focus more on that but it is a much wider issue hence sportswomen speaking up, court cases for protected beliefs and lobbying on other issues

Lonelycrab · 07/01/2024 19:47

But think of the success there has been in ensuring that those who have more money than anyone could need for their lifetime have got richer

Yes! Because those people getting richer will drive the economy of course before they get on a private jet or yacht and leave with all our money and it will filter down to all of us or something.

Piggywaspushed · 07/01/2024 19:47

Anything on child poverty?

jasflowers · 07/01/2024 19:48

As i ve repeatedly said, its an important issue but staying alive is perhaps more important.

I'm staggered you have nothing to say about DV funding cuts.

As women's rights obv matter to you.

BIossomtoes · 07/01/2024 19:49

Piggywaspushed · 07/01/2024 19:42

Frankly, I am more interested in lifting children out of poverty. It is disgusting how many children in thsi country live in poverty. Our 5 year olds have shrunk FFS. In one of the richest economies in the world Our young people are some of the unhappiest in the developed world.

I am also interested in our dropping life expectancy and other consequences of Tory austerity.

The damage this party has done to vulnerable groups is huge.

Absolutely. It’s high on my priority list too. A million children living in destitution is an appalling endictment on the government of a developed country. Absolutely bloody shocking.

I’m responding to this topic as it’s a continuation of the other thread and once people have finished asking questions I’ll leave you to it.

I have no issue with people moving on

Plus purely from an economic pov, poverty (can) mean more health costs, poor education, reliance on benefits, unemployment, violence, substance abuse, crime...

So its a mystery as to why the Tories want more poverty.

LlynTegid · 07/01/2024 19:53

I hope when the by-election comes in Wellingborough, people vote to keep the Tory candidate out. The partner of the bully and sex pest Peter Bone, sad that she has such low self-esteem or mental illness to be in a relationship with him, even worse that the local party adopted her as candidate.

I was quite impressed that there was still a Tory MP who remembered they had a backbone. I wonder if there are any others?

I think recent figures put is at 4.2 million children - is that 1 in 3 children in the UK?

And I don't see how anything other than a Labour government will attempt to fix that. I also can't comprehend of anything more important.

I can't believe people who care about women's rights don't care to even discuss things like this. How is possible to care so much about one group of people, but not so much (or at all?) about another?

What is the reason for that??

I've never quite understood how rich people stashing their money in tax havens helps drive our economy. Maybe there is someone on this thread who can expalin it to me.

It isn't about moving on, and I have no issue discussing it with you. I am just perplexed as to why you won't engage on any other topic.

I'll never forgive this lot for ganging up on Marcus Rashford with unbridled glee and voting against extending free school meals, 30p Lee and his ridiculous statements, the MP who said benefits went on Brothels, Rees Mogg accusing Grenfell victims of stupidity. The list is endless, sadly.

I’ve posted enough and need a break. I have no doubt everyone can discuss other stuff without gender as many prefer

I don’t mind finishing the conversation but need to disengage

I think they might have a good go on the Rwanda policy too, we've discussed that before. And immigration due to climate change, but interestingly not policies to try to reduce human impact on climate.

Destitution is beyond poverty. The figure here is a million. That’s a million kids in households

unable to meet their most basic physical needs: to stay warm, dry, clean and fed. This is known as destitution.

Recent analysis from charity the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) estimates that around 3.8 million people in the UK experienced destitution at some point during 2022. This is a 61% increase since 2019 – and a 148% increase since 2017.

Living in destitution means severe material hardship. The JRF’s 2022 survey of crisis service users in the UK found that 61% reported going without food in the month before the survey. They often put other needs, such as accommodation or feeding their children, over feeding themselves.

About half of the people surveyed were not able to afford adequate clothing and basic necessities, such as toiletries. Many talked of living in insecure and low quality housing.

Destitution in the UK 2023

This study, the fourth in the Destitution in the UK series, reveals approximately 3.8 million people experienced destitution in 2022, including around one million children. This is almost two-and-a-half times the number of people in 2017, and nearly tr...

Yes, I remember quite clearly trying to initiate a discussion on how we could reduce the causes of the wave of migration they anticipate, but no engagement with the idea was forthcoming.

There are also big companies get out of paying tax - Shell and Starbucks spring to mind. Is there a loophole that the government can't fix?

There is a lot of corruption. Water companies have prospered under the Tories I believe.

It must benefit the economy by giving the rich a free pass on certain things. Perhaps because they will then have more money to boost the housing sector? It's a system where the rich get richer, at the expense of the disadvantaged and poor. All the while, we have austerity.

A similar question is why the Tories seem okay with letting the NHS crash and burn. Do they want it privatised? Or is it just a case of not giving a shit?

Something is needed to break this cycle.

And yet there are millionaires in this country with large incomes, paying a smaller proportion of their income in taxes than teachers and nurses, and still people support the status quo.
