Super king bedding problems!

Sotired22 · 06/01/2024 19:34

Upgraded to a super king bed and the bedding is driving me mad! I’ve got a super king duvet from M&S and 2 sets of bedding both from different shops. Both duvet covers are too big for the duvet. It’s impossible to keep the corners of the duvet in place and it all ends up bunched up inside the cover with loads of spare fabric on the sides. Why?!!

If it was just a set from one shop I’d assume it was that shop making it too big, but it’s both sets from different places. Do I need to buy one from M&S as the duvet is from there? Shouldn’t it all be universal sizes though? Never had this issue with king size or single bedding from various shops.

Has anyone else had this issue?

I don't want to suggest that you are stupid, so apologies if this doesn't help but - you do know that a super king duvet is rectangular?? So if you don't have it the right way round, it will not fit the cover properly.

We just have a super king sheet and two duvets, cannot be dealing with the fuss and expensive super king bedding ...sorry, not very helpful I know :/

namelessnameface · 06/01/2024 19:39

I'm a cleaner and have regularly had this issue when changing super king bedding... I myself have a king size and I never knew how much of a difference there was.
In the end, it absolutely always was my fault, putting the duvet in the cover the wrong way round. Once that's sorted, you'll have no problem.

We've got super king duvet covers from John Lewis, mands and white company- all fine.

Cupcakedarling · 06/01/2024 19:41

Perhaps you’re trying by to put the duvet in the cover sideways? I’ve never had an issue with bedding

PurpleSproutingSomething · 06/01/2024 19:42

I have a super king. I got a sharpie and wrote on the actual duvet top end on the widest sides as I kept having this problem.

Mumaway · 06/01/2024 19:43

Mark the top and bottom of the duvet (stitches , or permanent marker) so it's easier to get it the right way round into the cover

Yes this. I used to think they were square and often put it on the wrong way. I have some brilliant bedding which has a a little discreet label on the side saying "side" Genius. I think it was from M&S.

PepsiMaxLime · 06/01/2024 19:44

The seams on our super king duvet go horizontally not vertically so perhaps you’ve got it the wrong way? Super kings are a bloody faff to make though!

RandomMess · 06/01/2024 19:46

Sure you aren't putting a king duvet in a super king cover somehow?

Pinkwallsandfloors · 06/01/2024 19:48

Bet you've gone sideways in, I was doing that for ages 🫣

frezstart · 06/01/2024 19:49

I get my husband to change our superking, it's too complicated for me😂

RandomMess · 06/01/2024 19:55

We just use 2 singles with a throw, far easier!

What a genius idea 😱

It is quite a large club OP if you are needing to join us.

Well I definitely didn’t consider that I’m putting it in the wrong way… the lines are vertical and the label is at the bottom, isn’t this the case with all duvets?! Omg will have to measure the damn thing now and find out! Thanks all.

Definitely not using a king duvet by mistake, this one is brand new (and actually the second one I’ve had as I hated the first one - same issue with that one though!)

Yep we do tjis.... dh was amazed to see 'side' and 'top / bottom' sharpie'd on the duvet!

unlikelychump · 06/01/2024 20:05

I find you have to actually measure each article as there are so many variations with EU sizes around too.

Writing on it is a good idea once you have the right thing!

RandomMess · 06/01/2024 20:07

@namelessnameface the changing, washing etc all easier plus can have different togs. No draft down your back and no having it whipped off you by the DH that wraps himself up like a cocoon 😬

PinkflowersWhiteBerries · 06/01/2024 20:09

Op, I have an M&S SK duvet. It may not be the same one. But my lines are horizontal, to stop the stuffing shaking down to the bottom.
Easy mistake though if that’s what it is.

Marilla1966 · 06/01/2024 20:11

Lines go across on mine and we’ve marked the bottom of the duvet with a sharpie. I’ve got lots of covers from Home Sense x

Janieforever · 06/01/2024 20:11

I also think you’ve put it in wrong way round. We have had a super king for decades, and bedding from all over, inc markies and never had a problem,

QueenOfHiraeth · 06/01/2024 20:13

Stitching is horizontal on my John Lewis duvet too.
I have to remind cleaners every time as I hate it flopping around the wrong way

Juggers · 06/01/2024 20:15

I've got a song i have to sing as I'm doing it.The lines on the duvet go across the bed from side to side, they look like waves, so I sing the Waves song.

Misslizzie96 · 06/01/2024 20:17

I got caught out on this when we upgraded to superking, on our super king duvet the lines go horizontal whereas every duvet is had before they went vertical, maybe it’s a new thing or unique to superkings not sure.
