Super king bedding problems!

Upgraded to a super king bed and the bedding is driving me mad! I’ve got a super king duvet from M&S and 2 sets of bedding both from different shops. Both duvet covers are too big for the duvet. It’s impossible to keep the corners of the duvet in place and it all ends up bunched up inside the cover with loads of spare fabric on the sides. Why?!!

If it was just a set from one shop I’d assume it was that shop making it too big, but it’s both sets from different places. Do I need to buy one from M&S as the duvet is from there? Shouldn’t it all be universal sizes though? Never had this issue with king size or single bedding from various shops.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Update! Sorry for taking days to report back, I literally couldn’t be bothered changing the bed again until today… I can confirm that you’re all correct and I was indeed putting it in the wrong way!! Lines go horizontal and label on the side… who knew?! 😳

@Sotired22 We’ve all been there OP 😂 Glad you got it fixed 😁

Here to add that some kingsize covers (thanks Toast) are rectangular too

We just use 2 singles with a throw, far easier!

Same here. Complete game changer.

However singles only work if you are not too tall or wide!

@BruceAndNosh 😂 DH is 6'3" and far from slim and he manages just fine. It was him causing the freezing draft tunnel when we shared!

Glad you've got it sorted. I always enjoy when we change from the winter duvet to the summer duvet (we live in Scotland Wink) as it's so much easier to change the lighter summer duvet Grin

Both duvets have the feathers sewn in squares, so I need to check that I have the longer side across the top.

Two hints: first is to make sure the duvet cover is inside out before you start putting it on. Secondly, safety pin (Shock) the top two corners of the duvet to the top two corners of the duvet cover (remember to take them off when you're changing the duvet cover though Wink - I leave the safety pins on the duvet). Then put your arms inside the duvet cover, up to the top corners. Flip the duvet cover over the duvet, so that it's now the right side out. Then all you have to do is to do up the buttons/zip/poppers at the bottom.

It's so random isn't it, we had the same issue. We still never get the bottom sheet on the right way round first time 🙈

I worked in housekeeping in a spiffy hotel with massive beds. If you lay duvet cover inside out pn bed then lay duvet on top. Then you roll the duvet and top layer of duvet cover together ( easier with two people but you can go backwards and forwards round the bed. Once it's done reach inside grab the corner and unroll the duvet. Perfect bed, no need for safety pins. It used to take 9 minutes to do a superking bed.

prettybird · 14/01/2024 09:06

The safety pins aren't to make it easier to put on - it's to make sure that the corners stay in the corners while you sleep under it Grin

I started doing it when I came across a only double new duvet cover that had ribbons on the inside cover, which were apparently to attach to the corners of the duvet Smile Given that neither of my older superking size duvet covers had them, I decided that the safety pins were the easiest way to replicate the principle.

Technically I should do it in all 4 corners but I reckon the top corners do the job! Wink

MindHowYouGoes · 14/01/2024 10:12

9 minutes is a long time!

easier way is to lay the quilt out, turn the cover inside out and put your arms in. Grab the top corners, then grab the quilt and shake the cover down over the quilt. You might have to hold both corners in one hand and use the other to pull the cover down. Then give it a good shake and you’re done. It takes about 2 minutes

9 minutes, that's ages! I do the inside out grab and shake method.

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 14/01/2024 18:49

It is ages, especially when you have 30 minutes to do the whole room but that includes stripping the bed, two sheets, get duvet on, four pillows an assortment of cushions and a throw.

The grab and shake method ruins the ironing creases.

This thread has been a revelation to me! I've been irritated by my duvet for years. I've bought a few and different covers. None of them fit properly!I was about to sew button tags and buttons on to keep the duvet at the edges of the cover. Until I read that I could be putting it the wrong way round! I really thought the label was always supposed to go at the bottom. I've switched it round tonight and I can't believe that I've suffered this nonsense for years! Thank you for both starting the thread and also to the people that have put forth this revelation!

OMG yes the draft tunnel! We switched to two singles largely because of this, so so much better.
