So sad. He fought to the end, the whole family have. He was so strong and so is Kate. RIP

He got Covid quite early on in 2020, there wasn’t a vaccine then.

there wasn't a vaccine back then and even if there as was what would would it matter, would you be blaming him for his death.

I really feel for Kate and the family, they have really been through it.

So sad, I’m not often majorly affected by famous people passing, but this is very sad. He and his family endured so much (and I’m sure there are other families who were or are in similar positions too).

Yes he caught COVID very early in the epidemic,so they didn't know much re how to treat him then. Very sad news 😞

@idontlikealdi of course I wouldn't do such a thing.
I was just curious as I was unsure when he contracted covid, but I do know there was a link between some people being vaccinated and heart related issues later on.
It seems this wasn't the case. It is sad either way. I do feel for the family

Gosh, what sad news to hear today. 😢Not shocked, as he was very ill over Christmas, and in intensive care - after having a massive heart attack . Still very sad news though... R.I.P. Derek, and love and good wishes to Kate Garraway - and their children. ❤

COVID causes far more heart issues than the vaccines did.
Very sad - he was so young when he caught it. It's a timely reminder of how devastating & scary the virus was in the early days before vaccines & t cell immunity due to repeated infections.

Sad news although I do feel a sense of relief for him and his family. They’ve all battled so hard over the last four years and I hope they are all afforded some sort of peace now. No one could accuse them of not trying absolutely everything within their power for Derek to recover as much as possible.

Why would you even ask that? The man has just died. All of the reports say it's from complications from Covid and you're trying to blame the vaccine?!

No because there wasn’t a vaccine then, but if he had been perhaps he wouldn’t have got so critically ill.

This could have happened to any one of us. He was 52 when he caught covid, previously a healthy man. Tragic.

@beguilingeyes Didn't take long did it? There are some anti-vax/flat-earther type people right now on Twitter/X ranting and raving about the covid vaccine and how DAMAGING it is to people.

As has been said, Derek was very ill with COVID before the vaccine was created!

A quick google would have told you when he caught covid .

Oh god she has had the most horrific time since he got ill. And him of course but what a hand to be dealt.
May he rest in peace.

Oh dear me, that's so very sad. What a tragic thing to happen. I always hoped he would eventually recover.
