Just so unbelievably sad. 😢

OP posts:
SinnerBoy · 05/01/2024 12:20

Poor guy, he was in a terrible state from it. Awful as it was, it may have been a relief for him and, though shocking for now, KG.

It is so so sad. Was this man vaccinated ?

It was well known he suffered terribly with Covid and the after affects of the virus
Wether he wax subsequently vaccinated is irrelevant.

MrsMitford3 · 05/01/2024 12:30

How terribly terribly sad. Kate was so devoted and fought so hard for/with him. Their poor family.

However-and I say this as someone who watched my husband battle leukaemia for 3 years and whose body was just devoured by the fight-sometimes winning is not having to fight anymore.

RIP Derek and peace to Kate and her children.

Cornettoninja · 05/01/2024 12:34

sometimes winning is not having to fight anymore

this will stay with me. Very wise words.

sorry your, and you, husband also had a long hard battle Flowers

tdino · 05/01/2024 12:35

@MrsMitford3 FlowersI'm sorry. And I agree. My friend lost her wonderful husband to dementia in December. She has endured the most awful few years.

My thoughts are certainly with Kate and their family and I hope she finds peace

ArcaneWireless · 05/01/2024 12:36

MrsMitford3

Aye. ‘Winning’ is sometimes not what is wanted but what is needed. 🌻

I do understand what you mean and my first thought was that while this is deeply and terribly sad, perhaps in one way it is a release?

NewYearNewNameOldMe · 05/01/2024 12:41

This is so sad. There was no good outcome likely here. I don't know if he was suffering or sort of unaware. I know that no matter how much Kate might have wanted an end to any suffering, she will be devastated by his loss. My heart goes out to them all.

NeedWineNow · 05/01/2024 12:56

Such sad news, he fought so hard and suffered so much. I feel so sad for Kate and her family.

I thought that too. It's horrifically sad though. They've been through so much.

Allschoolsareartschools · 05/01/2024 13:09

Very sad.

I'm a bit shocked at the BBC news report on Radio 2, it focused almost entirely on any political rumours of wrongdoings & seemed in rather poor taste so close to the announcement.

I feel very sorry for Kate & her family, I remember reading an interview with them as a couple years ago & it was obvious how in love they were.

SparkyBlue · 05/01/2024 13:15

I feel so sad for them. They always seemed like a genuine happy couple. They have had such a difficult time these past four years. May he rip and hopefully Kate and her two children can start to put their lives back together,
This could have been any of us. I'm vaccinated but currently have covid and feel beyond miserable so if I wasn't vaccinated what could have happened.

Oblomov23 · 05/01/2024 13:22

Oh dear. That's not good. How very sad indeed. I've been following this closely. I am sorry to read this.

beguilingeyes · 05/01/2024 13:40

@namelessnameface it's not a regular question. No-one else has asked it. It's implying that he had vaccine-related heart issues..which is bollocks.

What is the point of this comment?

Hé caught Covid long before the vaccine was available

namelessnameface · 05/01/2024 13:43

@beguilingeyes well it is a regular question. I'm just the first to ask. I was curious since this has floated about quite a bit.
There's nothing wrong with asking a question. It doesn't make somebody antivax or the like.
It doesn't mean it's not incredibly sad. It just means I was curious to whether he had been vaccinated.

namelessnameface · 05/01/2024 13:44

@JSMill because I was curious.
People seem to have accused me of jumping on the vaccine hate train, when I was just asking a simple question to begin with

Maybe your "curiosity" would be better harnessed by reading actual statistics and educating your innocent wee self. (That those heart issues of which you speak are far far more likely to follow Covid infection than vaccination)

Dentistlakes · 05/01/2024 14:07

I was extremely sad to read this news. The whole family has been through such an horrendous time and I really admired how Kate held everything together and still managed to work. I’m quite sure I would have fallen apart completely. They really did do all they could to fight for hiim.

JSMill · 05/01/2024 14:29

I remember when Kate came out of the jungle that seemed like such a happy and devoted couple. It's tragic but Derek's body had been through so much, perhaps it's better he's at peace now.

TastyLikeARaindrop · 05/01/2024 14:51

So true.

WildFlowerBees · 05/01/2024 14:54

A blessed release for Derek but devastating for Kate and their children. I feel so sad for the family. She has been such a strength throughout.

Ellemeg82 · 05/01/2024 14:54

Very sad. There's a lovely photo the press often use of when she came out of the jungle in Dec 2019 where she's in a yellow dress and he's there with her and they look so happy and relaxed. So sad knowing a few months later how their lives changed forever when he caught covid in march 2020.
