Happy New Year!

I'm still off work and getting bored. Looking for some good threads to waste a morning diving into.

What threads have stuck with you since you read them on here? Any with particular good advice? Funny or just plain scandalous also welcomed!

Fiveyearslefthere the lady with the platypus obsession has an Instagram account.

Onedayatatime22 · 05/01/2024 20:19

I often wonder about GGGLimpopo who lost her daughter Maude about 17.5 years ago. Many mumsnetters organised local walks in memory of her - I think of Maude every time I see pink balloons. 💝

I'm racking my brain for the poster name but drawing a blank. Maybe Mrs something?

She had a neurdivergent husband (maybe ex army and posh) two children and a crazy father in-law who she used to call Phil in her threads (don't think that was his name)
I want to say the children had names like Raphael or Lysander
I have a feeling they were living in a house they were doing up.

She posted a lot, including lots of detail and then seemed to suddenly stop.

Interested in this thread?

I often think of @chickencuddle

I think she’s deleted her account now. She left a horribly abusive man to a shelter but unfortunately went back.

MrsKoala - just come back to me.

The lovely lady who had a terminal illness and was being cared for by her husband and her best friend, who planned to marry each other after she passed. She lived in maybe Switzerland? She had soft toy platypuses and she just seemed a lovely, dignified, kind person. Does anyone remember/ know what happened to her?

I don't know the latest but I found these threads deeply disturbing. OP did sound lovely but her health situation never added up & the choices seemed truly bizarre. If the husband / best friend situation was true, it was awful as they were not really treating her well.

AsexualHealing · 05/01/2024 21:03

@REP22 omg that Ginny thread Shock
I’m often on the FWR boards but completely missed that.

A long long time ago, a MNetter who was raped by her policeman DH while her baby was in the room and her MIL was next door. She managed to get to the GP alone who sent her for a scan because he'd given her third degree anal tearing- and he insisted on going to the scan with her. I hope she got away.

And the Channel Islander musician with an utter knob of a ex husband.

Musician? From Jersey?

MeinKraft · 05/01/2024 21:06

Where did the M&S steak cut chips poster go

EarringsandLipstick · 05/01/2024 21:15

I think of @chopinandchampagne (LobsterBoy, and various name changes along the way) a lot. Another poster started a thread checking in & Chopin updates there occasionally. It's such an intractable situation, it's really sad. Chopin writes with such grace & clarity. (And for the person upthread who suggested they might be a troll, definitely not, some posters have met her IRL, and the details about where her DD lives in Ireland are spot on).

I also think of the long-running Geller / Polly threads. I related to a lot of what she went though. She really made the most from life, inspirational.

Does anyone remember the poor woman who was in a horrifically abusive marriage and she'd written all the reasons she should leave him on a piece of paper, he found the paper and made her eat it.
She told his parents he'd been beating her and they said she must've done something to deserve it.
That one was harrowing and I think about it a lot.

noodlezoodle · 05/01/2024 22:00

I remember Onit's threads about her complete shit of an ex-husband. I often wonder if she's OK and hope the kids are old enough that she doesn't have to deal with him anymore.

I’ve mentioned it before on a thread like this, but there was a poster who was (I think) a carer for her disabled DP, and she herself had been severely depressed and their flat had a got into a really terrible state. She was completely overwhelmed by the mess but some lovely MNers who lived locally to her went round with rubber gloves and cleaning products and cleaned for her. Cleaners and OP updated throughout with photos of their progress. It was just a beautiful thread, so positive, compassionate and a free of judgement but sadly I can’t remember what it was called or the names of the OP and cleaners. It was maybe about 12 year ago if anyone else remembers it?

I remember that! Was awe-inspiring.

DingDongMerrilyOnHi · 05/01/2024 22:16

Another two I remember, both quite similar…

A young lady who had a quirky parent/family set up, I think she was low contact and both her parents had remarried and amongst this was a gentlemanly figure who had been like a grandad to her and been a big part of her life as she had grown up…

She used to see him for lunches as an adult and he came very weird and controlling with her and then just plain weird and in the end she had to block his number and he started turning up at her house and writing letters…

Possibly was another troll but I really felt for her.

The other was not that long ago and a daughter who was trying to deal with her mothers death and her mothers friend was refusing to leave her DM’s house…

There was down discussion that she might have been more of a partner but the women who was practically a stranger to the DD wanted a say in the how the funeral was running, had copied the keys to the house and was making it very hard for any grieving to happen…

SwordToFlamethrower · 05/01/2024 22:37

The post where OP (a police officer!) Was giving us live updates about the builder doing work in her house but was seen on the ring doorbell or security camera, letting a woman in for down and dirty sexy times while op was at work!!!

Does anyone know what the outcome of that was? It was brilliant!

Squaffle · 05/01/2024 11:54

Lovely Pamela and her family have been in my thoughts a lot this year. What an incredible woman.

I often think about a lady who fled DV, I think her username was ‘Red Toothbrush’ or something very similar. Her partner hated the colour red as it was the colour of a rival football team and she wasn’t allowed anything of that colour in the house whatsoever. She endured some truly awful abuse, and made plans to leave which she was able to carry out, she was sending update messages from motorway service stations during her journey away from him. She then updated to say she had settled safely and had brought herself a red toothbrush. I really hope she’s ok (and that she wasn’t a troll), she was so brave.

Ahh thank you , it's been just over 4 years and I'm doing really well . Only thanks to the support received on here though. That journey, yes even stoping on the way to buy a red toothbrush, was the longest drive ever.
I'm settled now , still occasionally have nightmares but am living a very quiet normal life on my own . Mumsnet certainly saved my life with the encouragement, and that's not an exaggeration.

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/01/2024 22:46

The one where the OP was clearing and cleaning a hoarder friend's house and was collecting the loose change she found for gin .

FictionalCharacter · 05/01/2024 22:47

BetterWithPockets · 05/01/2024 18:42

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but the one where the OP had a river at the bottom of her garden, and trees, and the neighbours (the other side of the river) were trespassing to put up screens (for privacy) of some kind…

I think the OP of that one admitted that he’d made the whole thing up for fun. It was written in very amusing witty language and seemed to be posted almost as a way of testing out his writing style and story on an audience. He “signed off” from the thread saying he was just going to leave the tarpaulins stuck to his trees, with a kind of “goodbye everyone and I hope you’ve enjoyed this”. It all sounded a very unlikely scenario and very odd that a man would post a thread on MN about it.

FictionalCharacter · 05/01/2024 22:52

@REP22 @AsexualHealing In the end I was convinced that the Ginny threads were fabricated. The story started as a quite plausible one then became more and more outrageous, and some of the details didn’t ring true.
The OP said she was going on holiday, but never came back despite a few people asking for updates.

AmeliaEarhart · 05/01/2024 22:57

I was very fond of Mrs Koala. Her life seemed seemed like a series of unfortunate events but she had a sense of humour about it all. I hope things have calmed down for her.

IIdentifyAsInnocent · 05/01/2024 10:27

There was one a few years (5?) that I'm pretty sure ended up being a troll, about someone putting patio doors into her garden courtyard. It was brilliantly written and did make me chuckle.

Also alphabet street and puddle, both the same troll posting at the same time. People had gone out of their way to help her, even writing legal documents and I genuinely cannot understand what made her troll like that. It was so bizarre.

Oooh I remember the patio doors! Was there something about a nan... 🤔 didn't realise that was a troll!

And 5 years?! God, time really flies!

Wimbledonmum1985 · 05/01/2024 23:12

MrsKoala was like a real life soap opera. Her DH was utterly useless and frittered money away on lunches and coffee. They seemed to have heaps of cash though, particularly after ‘Phil’ popped his clogs. The house sounded hazardous - I remember a post where one of the boys fell out the window. Miss those bonkers updates.

NotAClueZ · 05/01/2024 23:13

the tarpaulin one @BetterWithPockets and @FictionalCharacter mentioned reminded me of the people having sex in the hedge at the bottom of a posters garden with photos of the hedge. poster was investigating it and went to play stuff through their speaker at them. i wasn't entirely convinced it was true but it was very entertaining.

certainshepherdpups · 05/01/2024 23:20

So many of the OPs mentioned here turned out to be trolls. MN has always had a huge trolling problem.
