Happy New Year!

I'm still off work and getting bored. Looking for some good threads to waste a morning diving into.

What threads have stuck with you since you read them on here? Any with particular good advice? Funny or just plain scandalous also welcomed!

@Intriguedbythis I also wondered what happened to the kid and family who were left with her. I think the thread was from last summer? The last post I read on the thread said the holiday park had called the police but the family were looking after the kid until the police got there.

I can't get over how the kid's parents just left her. Heartbreaking.

There was one a while back that was only up for a couple of hours. It was a woman saying that she'd bumped into her Spanish cleaner in the supermarket and the cleaner quite clearly was not Spanish. I imagine it was all a load of rubbish but it was hilarious and even if it wasn't true, I wanted to know what would happen when the cleaner turned up to work on Monday!

I think about Pamela a lot - the woman who had cancer and it was sadly in the very last stages before it was discovered. She went to London to receive treatment privately - promised all sorts by the doctor - after the hospital in Northern Ireland said there was nothing more could be done for her. Cheered on and encouraged by hundreds of Mumsnetters she was so determined. But it was all too late and she died in London.'
I think about her and her family often. She was so upbeat but it was all too late.

KnickerlessParsons · 05/01/2024 17:30

I often wonder about the lady who was having to sleep in her car with her dog because she'd been kicked out of her flat and wouldn't accept any offers of accommodation that she could afford because they wouldn't take her dog.

Did she and the dog ever find anywhere to live, or are they still
In the car?

Latenightreader · 05/01/2024 17:35

A few years ago a woman was at home with other children while her husband took their 3YO to A&E with a really bad throat. She came home, but a few days later they went to get her up from a nap and found her dead - hospital had missed bad tonsilitus and her throat swelled shut. People doubted it but there were local paper articles and it was very real. I think about the horror of it a lot

StaunchMomma · 05/01/2024 17:40

I loved the one where the CF neighbours had secretly copied OPs keys to their holiday home and was flying out to holiday there without them knowing. If I remember rightly, OPs Mum turned up and found them there and called the Police and they tried to balls it out and say the Mum was crazy and lying but there were photos of her on the walls of the holiday home 😂

I have to re-read Sistine Chapel once a year. It's just so funny.

tilsmumsy · 05/01/2024 17:40

@Latenightreader I remember. The thread started when the child was poorly and then there was a heartbreaking update that she died in her sleep.

The one where the ironing board randomly disappeared from the posters small flat, does anyone know if she ever found it?! Also the recent one about the crows, I'd love to know what happened!

What about the one where the clock chains disappeared from a grandfather clock. Did she ever find them?

And there was the lady who had dropped a plate behind the toilet cistern. I think her DH got it out eventually, but she had loads of advice not all useful.

Yes! That was mad!

Lochnesslassie · 05/01/2024 17:43

Not read this whole thread but has anyone mentioned the elderly Korean lady in the back garden?
Lovely thread

12menandtrue · 05/01/2024 17:48

Penis beaker. Read it in my lunchtime at work. Nearly wet myself laughing.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/01/2024 17:53

At least 10, if not 12 or more years ago, a post by an MNer who was annoyed that she'd come home from a night shift, to find that her partner had eaten all her peanut butter, which she was saving for her breakfast. Superficially not too awful, but it transpired that she was very young (mid 20s) and in a relationship with an emotionally abusive much older man (50s) who she was supporting financially. Lots of gaslighting going on too. It was a really long thread, but I've never been able to find it again. The thread helped her to see what was going on, and she realised that she needed to leave this guy, but was very scared to do so. I have wondered from time to time if she ever did.

A thread where the OP had a male friend of many years and was utterly in-love with him, and was basically obsessed! One of them was a writer, OP complained when the male friend (who had a wife) would reject her advances for sex. The way OP wrote/spoke about him was something out of a stalker book because of how intensive it was, and I still think of it till this day. If I also remember correctly she went to his house multiple times and texted him everynight on top of other things she did.

I'd be very interested to read this one if anyone can find it, it sounds disturbingly familiar.

beautifulyoungmind · 05/01/2024 18:21

I often think about a post in Trans Widows where one woman recounted how her husband would get really snippy if she looked prettier than him when he was in female mode.
It really stuck with me

I always remember TrickyTreeLou whose husband was having an affair, got OW pregnant, and left for OW - then Lou found out she was also pregnant - she had a little boy called Adam who must be about 11 now!

Oh and when the XH left he took all the chutney from the fridge.

Last I heard, she was doing okay, as was her child, but she stopped posting because of what I believe are known as "flying monkeys" reporting stuff back that she didn't want made public.

tishtishboom · 05/01/2024 18:30

Crows.

I still wonder what happened to the poster who's husband didn't pay the rent, she couldn't gey in touch with him then she just disappeared.

Ah, yes, I remember this one. I hope all was okay although fear not…

BetterWithPockets · 05/01/2024 18:42

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but the one where the OP had a river at the bottom of her garden, and trees, and the neighbours (the other side of the river) were trespassing to put up screens (for privacy) of some kind…

BabeRuthless · 05/01/2024 18:56

I remember one that was rural where the family lived on a farm and the poor OP couldn’t have a few minutes holding her newborn baby without her MIL accusing her of shirking her farm responsibilities. She was constantly taking the baby off her and telling her to go fill bags of feed while her husband didn’t intervene.

A few people posted about how isolating that lifestyle can be. It’s always stuck with me.

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 05/01/2024 18:58

The lovely lady who had a terminal illness and was being cared for by her husband and her best friend, who planned to marry each other after she passed. She lived in maybe Switzerland? She had soft toy platypuses and she just seemed a lovely, dignified, kind person. Does anyone remember/ know what happened to her?

@Jb2182 was it Hillaria Baldwin in action again?

Woman who 'exposed' Hilaria Baldwin's says she should own actions

The woman who started the debate about Hilaria Baldwin's Spanish roots has said that she should 'own what she did,' she told DailyMail.com.

I always think about one lady who posted because her husband had locked her and her children out of the house when she went to pick them up from school, because he was on a work call and didn't want to be disturbed. If I recall it went on for so long that it started to get cold and dark and her poor DD had to pee in the garden.

I think she had other threads and it transpired that he was pretty abusive. I always wonder what happened to her and her kids and if they're ok.

REP22 · 05/01/2024 20:05

The one mentioned by @Intriguedbythis - the abandoned child at the holiday camp. That stayed with me for a while.

The thread involving the trans co-worker "Ginny" who was causing havoc (Ginny - an update | Mumsnet). That one went quiet and I wonder what happened, if anything.

Purple's thread about her son and EarthMotherImNot's threads.

The one where a young child was pinned down to the ground in a shopping centre by family and shop staff in order to have her ears pierced whilst screaming and passers-by tried to intervene - that one made the news I think, along with a similar one where a mother forced a nail salon to put shellac nail polish onto her baby's fingernails.

Locked parking thread 2 | Mumsnet - the CF who parked in a lady (BlueEyesWhiteDragon)'s gateway shared with the Forestry Commission, referenced by a PP above and it's epic descent into CFery, sumptuous pub roasts, a roguish DB and his Army of Teds... I was irrationally angry at the conclusion of that for a long while after I should've been because the CF ultimately got away with it at the expense of his poor wife.

And the continuing Stately Homes and Cockroach Cafe threads. They continue to be bastions of support, wisdom, sympathy and sometimes much-needed humour in desperately trying circumstances. The regulars there are amazing.
