Happy New Year!

I'm still off work and getting bored. Looking for some good threads to waste a morning diving into.

What threads have stuck with you since you read them on here? Any with particular good advice? Funny or just plain scandalous also welcomed!

@JaneJeffer amazing news! I’ll have a look for it.

It was a few months ago, pregnant woman (with other kids) found out that her surgeon husband was secretly messaging his female colleague. He had started at his new job recently. Poor woman. She disappeared and I’m hoping we’ll get an update one day!

i often think of the posters on the cancer support threads who sadly died, VampireQueen, BitofFun, LeslieKnope, Pamela and too many others. Such incredibly generous and caring individuals who will never know how much they touched the lives of others 💐

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about this subject:

The DH who ate the fatball in the fridge.

When mumsnet bought all the ravens from Argos.

DH couldn't buy canestan, thread took a brilliant and unexpected turn.

The random woman who used to turn up at the cycling meets !

The 4x4 that parked on the ladies land (think she lived near a country park)

There was a post, maybe a year ago, that almost no one commented on yet I found it really shocking.
I can't remember the name but it was a woman in her 50s, I think, who was married to a controlling arsehole. She wanted to go to her daughter's graduation but was too scared to because it would upset her jealous husband. Despite him being the daughter's dad he seemed jealous of his wife spending any time with their daughter. I seem to remember that she often let the daughter down to keep her DH happy and obviously the daughter was very upset.
Another example of his depraved behaviour was that he made his wife wear very revealing and sexy clothes whenever her parents visited. So she'd have to have there chatting to her mum and dad in the most inappropriate clothes. If she tried to cover up with a jumper or cardigan, he'd be furious.
I often wondered what happened to that poster. She seemed to have no strength or inclination to leave him so she's probably still living in this horrible situation. Very sad and disturbing.

Penis beaker. There's no comparison for sheer shocking hysteria.

I often think of a thread which was on here about 11 years ago because I was irrationally annoyed for the OP 😁 but literally no one else seems to ever remember it.

It was called "Quad Mum" or something and it was about the OP who used to go to a gym with a crèche which only had places for 4 kids. A mum of four ("quad mum") would arrive 5 mins before the OP every day and unload all of her four kids, only to sit and have a coffee in the gym cafe and not actually use the gym.

There ensued a debate as to whether the quad mum was taking the piss as she wasn't actually using the gym but was just using the free childcare for "me time" when the OP would then have to go home or wait until there was a space for her child. And then lots of investment in the OP racing to get to the gym before quad mum who would then moan that she could only offload three of her four etc etc.

I need to read this thread 😂

It was a troll thread

Really? It was very in-depth and they never tripped themselves up. She even out pictures of the garden and walls on?

It did suck me in I have to say.

JustOneMoreBiscuit55 · 05/01/2024 12:20

One from sometime last year about a family who loved pate not being able to ever finish a whole pack despite having it for multiple meals. I think about that thread whenever I've had pate since (especially when I do a big, thick layer of it that you can see teeth marks in when you bite it).

I also think about the deleted thread about the mysterious sound in a garden too and wonder what it could have been.

The Sistine chapel and penis beaker will always be classics too.

notacooldad · 05/01/2024 12:22

My memory is a bit hazy on this one and it was years ago but as far as I reacall there was a poster who was quite popular and posted a lot. She had a disabled child. There was something going on, maybe a lack of services and support and it ended up in the newspapers. It was quite a big thing at the time. I think the poster was called Raven or something. I seem to think it made the involvement of mumsnetters made the situation worse.

The one when spanish grandma turned up?

The fairly recent one with the Irish (?) girl who died of cancer.

There was so much detail and it went on for ages but turned out to be fake or at least suspected of being fake.

Why would anyone fake that?

If you are talking about Pamela who had bile duct cancer it most certainly wasn't fake. I think some randomer turned up claiming to be her husband and that person was fake but Pamela did have cancer and she did die.

DomPom47 · 05/01/2024 12:28

Think it was an Australian poster whose son was in a relationship with an unstable young lady of a similar age.

TittyTop · 05/01/2024 12:29

There was a Thread called John learns to Adult, I think it was pulled because it was fiction but it was well told. OP was having a bad time separating from DH in a Very Important Job. Op did turn it round to make it funny rather than a misery act. He was on a phone call and expected the Removal Team to wait and he had not packed.

Noo no Spanish grandma that I recall! But this one sounds like it would suck me in too 😂

Span gran.
I'm sure that was the thread with the grade 2 listed flat with courtyard and neighbour knocking through into her property.
2 or 3 threads worth and her no nonsense Spanish Gran turned up.

Rochroche · 05/01/2024 12:40

Penis breaker and fatball eating husband got to be up there!

So many sad and depressing ones over the years. Some recent ones I struggle with as they seem to be trolls drip feeding but it's impossible to tell.

The rare occasions when someone in AIBU isn't! Or where they are but take advice - sometimes think of the lady who slept with her exes brother who was in the army and the lady who realised her husband was actually abusive and not pranking her.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 05/01/2024 12:46

I often think about the poster who thought her colleague was flirting with her on Teams because he was making a lot of "eye contact", which just mean he was looking into his camera.

endlessleypeckish · 05/01/2024 12:46

I often think of the eloquent poster (champagne something??) who had a daughter in Ireland with a controlling husband and she was pregnant again. They bought a farm and are being all "off grid"
Dunno why that one sticks with me

JeezJerry · 05/01/2024 12:49

@Sususudio Argh I think of that one too! I wonder what happened!

The original thread wasn't fake. Someone setup a fake one to announce her death. She hadn't died

Lovely Pamela and her family have been in my thoughts a lot this year. What an incredible woman.

I often think about a lady who fled DV, I think her username was ‘Red Toothbrush’ or something very similar. Her partner hated the colour red as it was the colour of a rival football team and she wasn’t allowed anything of that colour in the house whatsoever. She endured some truly awful abuse, and made plans to leave which she was able to carry out, she was sending update messages from motorway service stations during her journey away from him. She then updated to say she had settled safely and had brought herself a red toothbrush. I really hope she’s ok (and that she wasn’t a troll), she was so brave.

I remember Red Toothbrush and wonder how she is too. There is a poster now with a similar username but it's not her I don't think.

Newsenmum · 05/01/2024 12:58

I liked the one with the woman whose neighbour wouldn’t stop talking to her in the garden. The op tried everything to get a bit of space and in the end the neighbour resorted to bouncing on a trampoline to see over the fence and keep on talking to her!
