Happy New Year!

I'm still off work and getting bored. Looking for some good threads to waste a morning diving into.

What threads have stuck with you since you read them on here? Any with particular good advice? Funny or just plain scandalous also welcomed!

The lady whose husband of 25 years had an affair with someone, she pretty much just asked him to leave, which he did and then never contacted him again. Total class act, the dh was close to her adult son and he ghosted the exdh too. Lily007 I think the op was. I always think this is how I'd like to have been when I found out my ex was cheating. Even though she was distraught and hurt she never ever gave him the satisfaction of knowing how he'd made her feel, I often wonder if he ever tried to come back to her

The fairly recent one with the Irish (?) girl who died of cancer.

There was so much detail and it went on for ages but turned out to be fake or at least suspected of being fake.

Why would anyone fake that?

It wasn't fake. Someone right at the end posted that she had died from a fake account. It was then updated and ended by her husband posting photos of her.

@catwithflowers Pamela's threads have stayed with me too. Such a brave woman sharing her journey with us

I often think of Pamela and her family
She was so brave

A long long time ago, a MNetter who was raped by her policeman DH while her baby was in the room and her MIL was next door. She managed to get to the GP alone who sent her for a scan because he'd given her third degree anal tearing- and he insisted on going to the scan with her. I hope she got away.

And the Channel Islander musician with an utter knob of a ex husband.

There was a thread from maybe a year ago that I wonder about often. The OP was in an abusive marriage and desperately wanted to leave. She was so terribly unhappy. There were no DC, and I think she worked for DH's business and basically never went out. She got her ducks in a row and made plans to leave while he was at work one day, but then all went quiet. I then lost the thread and never found out if she updated it. If it rings a bell with anyone I would love to know if she got out.

I remember this.... I wonder too what happened and hope she's now happy.

Rochroche · 05/01/2024 13:12

Oh and Brian from Hull's yoni massage proposition turned poetry slam thread ... sometimes think I imagined that but nope it's in classics!

There was one years ago (10 plus) that I think about. It was where the OP’s husband had poured petrol on a bonfire causing an explosion where he and their young daughter were horribly burnt. I wonder if her daughter is ok and if she was able to forgive her DH.

halomoon · 05/01/2024 13:23

I remember a post from a few years ago - a woman with several small children. It seemed she was from the Travelling community. Asking for help to escape her abusive husband.

She could only message sporadically as was terrified of being caught. She sounded so desperately scared and I often think of her and her young children. I hope she's ok.

PossumintheHouse · 05/01/2024 13:28

I haven’t read the whole thread, suspect this has been mentioned.

The one where the poster bought her friends a posh lunch in New York, and then they charged champagne and other stuff up to her room when she had left. She never came back to update! Still seething.

Also there was an MNer whose toddler son died when the husband took him out of the car in a carpark, didn't put the reins on him, went to get his twin sister out, and he was knocked down and killed. She posted a lot on threads about using reins, warning people about what had happened to her, and I think of her often.

Pebble21uk · 05/01/2024 14:02

I think a lot about the thread last year from a poster whose adult daughter was very ill in hospital (sepsis I think) and she and her husband lived abroad and were desperately trying to get to her bedside in time. They did, but the daughter died a while later. There was HUGE controversy over whether it was a troll thread or not, but MNHQ verified it. The poor mother started by getting so much support and ended by being vilified by posters. It was the complete best and very worst of MN in one thread!

I wonder about this one too.

Was this the one where, I think it was 2 threads but the same person. One where she had to go to bed at half 9 or something because he did. And the other where she'd rented a flat to escape to and was having trouble actually going through with it? I wonder what happened if so.

BessMarvin · 05/01/2024 14:08

Nchanged89 · 05/01/2024 12:39

Span gran.
I'm sure that was the thread with the grade 2 listed flat with courtyard and neighbour knocking through into her property.
2 or 3 threads worth and her no nonsense Spanish Gran turned up.

People always say it was a troll on these sorts of threads but I don't think mnhq ever confirmed it as such. So maybe or maybe not.

They didn’t verify it, they just asked posters to not troll hunt.
it had all the hallmarks.

I’m the mums cousin, the one who realised when reading the thread that the Op was my cousin who I hadn’t seen for about 50 years. I had however kept up on her life via family over the years.

The family are doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances and me and my cousin are going to plan our next trip back to Scotland around each other.

Anyone know what happened to poster OpheliaRose? Her husband left her for his colleague. OP and her husband had twins and the colleague even wrote a card when the twins were born. Husband seemed quite successful, and besotted with the colleague.

OP seemed lovely, and devastated. I got busy with life so didn't follow the thread after a while.

I think about her often too. I hope she is ok now.

StrawberryJellyBelly · 05/01/2024 14:33

it had all the hallmarks

it was very real.

The woman who believed someone was living in her attic. The police were involved and I think a court case ensued.

A poster called MrsMartin who loved Elemis Marine cream.

ChopinandChampagne and Lobster Boy. Though posters on Tattle say she was a troll.

A wedding one with about 14 bridesmaids.

Chopin is still around

C&C how are you? Having followed your threads about DD1 & Lobster Boy for years, I am hoping that you have stayed no contact. I really admire...

All those people thinking about the Roman Empire multiple times a day/week.

OMG this one. I still cant believe it.

I wonder about the poor lady who found out her husband was having an affair with her friends sister. The friend had said she'd seen him with someone as she didn't want to be disloyal to her sister, but then eventually told her.

I think the last update was that he had lied to the school and taken the son and was refusing access. Ive never seen another update so I hope she is OK now!

Oh my god yes! This was middle of last year! I remember that

ScoobyDoesnt · 05/01/2024 14:43

I always remember TrickyTreeLou whose husband was having an affair, got OW pregnant, and left for OW - then Lou found out she was also pregnant - she had a little boy called Adam who must be about 11 now!

Oh and when the XH left he took all the chutney from the fridge.

GreekGod · 05/01/2024 14:46

The Stately Homes threads always affect me - I am amazed at the strength and courage of the mumsnetters on those threads. Very courageous posts about what has gone on behind closed doors. I am in awe of the posters on that thread.
