Case returned to work this week

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/01/2024 20:47

looks like they’ve released the 2020/2021 wine cellar report too.

DuncinToffee · 11/01/2024 20:49

I saw that, 1,433 bottles of wine and spirits were consumed from the government's wine cellar during the two years covered by Covid restrictions, the Foreign Office has disclosed

DuncinToffee · 11/01/2024 20:50

Add to that the suitcases of bottles from the supermarket

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/01/2024 20:56

They still don’t seem to have given any official reason why the 20/21 was delayed 4 times.

1400 sounds about right for 2021/22. Freedom day was July 21. It is still a drop from 3000-5000 bottles normally used though. Have we found a Brexit benefit?

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/01/2024 20:59

How many of the 140 bottles used in 2020/21 were used in ‘not parties’ that were being held in Downing Street?

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/01/2024 21:07

The Independent have got a sentence into their article on the wine report saying that Johnson was forced to resign because of the partygate scandal.

That’s not right is it? I can understand why people might make that mistake because in any normal period of time it would have been a resigning matter. It was the Pincher issue that forced him to resign though wasn’t it?

Not joking @Littledrummergirl, apparently 'we' will be joining USA tonight taking military action in the Red Sea. Here we bloody well go.

We haven't really got a large Navy now to get heavily involved.

2 aircraft carriers
2 amphibious transport docks
6 destroyers
11 frigates

plus our submarines and some other vessels

There is also an issue with recruitment and retention

And an issue with the Navy in general

Is the Royal Navy in crisis? | Navy Lookout

It's all very well working with the USA but we lack a lot of resources

L1ttledrummergirl · 11/01/2024 22:25

If they use the same recruitment service as the army, I'm not surprised. Ds2 withdrew his application to rejoin after a more than a year because it hadn't progressed due to them messing around. It was ridiculous.

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/01/2024 22:25

Why did Bridgen borrow 4.5million for legal fees from Jeremy Hosking? How the hell is he planning to pay it back?

Thread 35 - Sunak, the squatter
Notonthestairs · 11/01/2024 22:34

Why did it take so long for him to register it??

Why is an ex BNP donor lending £4 million to a Tory MP? (Bridgen was Conservative at the time)

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/01/2024 22:50

So many questions.

newnamethanks · 11/01/2024 23:23

Well, well. LBC gossip, from unverified source, mentioned AB leaving the Laurence Fox Party, (Replay? Regurgitate? forgotten its name) due to AB falling out with LF over a company car and a Christmas tree. AB took the Party car (just the one? Odd) to his constituency. LF bought a Christmas tree and needed to transport it. AB declined to come back with the car. Nobody says No to LF, he's a very sensitive soul. Don't know who ended up with the car. Hope he's not sleeping in it, I'll have to let Lee Anderson know.

jgw1 · 12/01/2024 08:06

I note that by his actions last night Sunak has confirmed that this week is indeed an increase migration week.

Ah, warmongering never goes amiss near election time.

They still won't win, though.

This is what worries me. Military action has always been a vote winner. Seeing Grant Shapps trying to act statesman-like and talking about the conflict and action as Sec of State for Defence was very funny though

Cornettoninja · 12/01/2024 08:25

God it’s like the rugrats have been given the keys to no.10. It’s one thing hanging around the sidelines of a conflict in a diplomatic/supportive role but these inept twats an active part in deploying military? This is fucking terrifying.

DuncinToffee · 12/01/2024 08:30

Making a decision to take military action without securing prior parliamentary approval, sounds right for this lot.

Roussette · 12/01/2024 08:33

I had no idea Shapps had this position, last I heard he was Transport but I just looked and he has been home secretary business secretary energy secretary and more

Has he any experience for Defence. Actually don't answer that. Best not

DuncinToffee · 12/01/2024 08:41

Can I ask a question, when people say this is like the Falklands war all over again, what do they mean with that?

IClaudine · 12/01/2024 08:56

DuncinToffee · 12/01/2024 08:41

Can I ask a question, when people say this is like the Falklands war all over again, what do they mean with that?

Because of the way it bolstered Thatcher's popularity at a time when it was waning.

I don't think this will have the same effect, though. This is very scary.

IClaudine · 12/01/2024 08:58

The Falklands basically saved the Tories, or at least saved Thatcher.

IClaudine · 12/01/2024 09:00

I wonder how much it cost us taxpayers to carry out that attack? There is always money for war, isn't there?
