Contrary to a previous comment, I’ve met Anna Friel and she was lovely. She’s a good friend of a good friend of mine and we all went out for dinner a few years ago. She was really friendly and funny.

Maybe she was nice to you because she saw you as 'people'. If you are a FOAF, then you are vouched for, per se. I don't like people who are rude to staff and crew members, though, so I think that the people who didn't like her have a valid reason not to do so. I've heard bad things about her as well.

Didn't follow the trial but I can tell you Johnny D and the Hughes Brothers (directors) had spectacular dedicaiton in 'auditioning' the young actresses playing Victorian prostitues in From Hell (Jack the Ripper Movie he starred in, bout 20 years ago).

How do you know?

Jeannie88 · 07/01/2024 20:28

Have met a few celebrities, mostly accidentally at airports and didn't recognise them or take note really as they actually just look like fellow humans lol 😆

My parents met more of the big celebrities in their time as they used to just pop into local pubs (many still do I know) and there wasn't the SM hype so just chatted, guess that's why I don't swoon when I realise I met one, unless it was a certain few but hasnt happened!

TimeyWimeyNameChange · 07/01/2024 20:32

I’ve known Theresa May for years. She is very actively involved with local people, especially in local schools where people love her, she is a loyal and kind friend, and very different in real life to how she comes across on television. She is more relaxed when she is with people she knows well and she’s very funny.

VanityDiesHard · 07/01/2024 20:33

Oh, this is one about me! I'm not a celebrity, but when I lived in London more than one person thought I was someone called Gugu Mbatha-Raw. She was in a tv show called Belle a few years back. I don't think I look all that much like her, but apparently I do!

That may be so, but it was under her watch that the Hostlile Environment was brought in so I don't really like her.

OlivejuiceU2 · 07/01/2024 20:37

I know his Mum and she is the loviest person.

MissingMoominMamma · 07/01/2024 18:47

@blahhblahhblahh - she emailed DH and asked him out after they’d worked together! He politely declined, but every time our (grown up) son sees her on TV, he shouts , ‘Mummy!’ 🙄😂.

Oh, that's hilarious.

Tell your DS that from the other comments from people here, and my memories of her as a kid, he should appreciate his escape! He's lucky your DH has excellent taste.

cremebrulait · 07/01/2024 20:42

Not super celeb….

Kathy Kreigel - Fleur de Peau - let her Paris flat
Karen Brady - ran into her at an event in London. Looks and talks exactly like TV.
Chuck Hagel - former US secretary of defense - looked exactly as on TV
watched my ex-boss try and hit on Kramer at her birthday do. I wouldn’t have noticed if she hadnt drunkenly lunged at him.
I invited the Jazz performer Frank Amsallam to my wedding reception to delight my now ex husband. He came!!! 😂
China from Pink Martini - was more matronly.
Edwin Moses the US Olympian - he wasn’t very nice.
John Cleese - walked behind him doing the silly walk after I possibly had a bit of alcohol (I was just being sillly)

Catsmere · 07/01/2024 20:43

I met the King back when he was Prince of Wales, on both his and Diana's first two tours here. He was funny and back then, a lot between looking than photos suggested.

I shared a train seat a few times with Brian Dawe (Australian writer and comedian). Lovely conversations we had.

Grimedd · 07/01/2024 20:45

I met Jimmy Carr recently. I work in a cinema and he bought a ticket to Oppenheimer off me and asked a few questions. He was very polite and I pretended to not recognise him. While he was in the film people came in to try and find out where he was, we lied and said we didn't know where he was. Must be weird being followed around everywhere.

Ownedbykitties · 07/01/2024 20:45

I met Charles and Camilla. They were both friendly and easy going. Camilla impressed me with her comfy shoes. They must have been years old and were well worn. Obviously a woman who values comfort over being a fashion victim! She looked very nice but definitely down to earth and comfortable in her own skin.
George Harrison. So slim and quiet. Polite and unassuming. RIP dear George.

Who on earth would want to follow Jimmy Carr around!?

BigBrightStarz · 07/01/2024 21:03

I met James Morrison (singer 'You Give Me Something') a few years ago and he was absolutely lovely. Really chilled out, down to earth, and was just awesome. The way he took time to speak to fan's and have photo's with them, was so nice.

I'd love to have an evening with him, singing our hearts out together 😂😍

Catsmere · 07/01/2024 21:07

A lot BETTER looking, stupid autocorrect!

I'd love to meet Ricky Gervais hope someone comes on to say they have

I know someone who dated him when he was in his early 20s. They took him to an extended family gathering, the family said he was boring, stood in the corner and observed everyone a little aloofly whilst eating. Noone liked him

Humbugg · 07/01/2024 21:11

Robbie Williams and he was funny, warm, really nice.

Jonathon Ross - friendly, nice. I wish I’d had the chance to talk to him longer.

Saw Rowan Atkinson at Marks and Spencer’s in Hampstead and poor chap looked like he wanted everyone to leave him alone so I quickly looked away. Felt for him.

BigBrightStarz · 07/01/2024 21:13

@Charlize43 I absolutely love Stanley Tucci. I would love to meet him!

Bubblecat89 · 07/01/2024 21:16

I met the (then) Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at an impromptu jubilee street party, we were walking past to the park. They were both charming and so down to earth.
Katherine commented how my daughter had the same leggings as Charlotte (they were from Tu) and even though they now have holes, my daughter will not let me throw away her ‘Princess leggings.’
My daughter’s photo was in the Sun the following week, she was shaking hands with Kate and it was quite possibly the best school ‘show and tell’ of all time.
I’m a teacher so I was so excited to show my class too xx

Twobigbabies · 07/01/2024 21:16

Greg Wise and Emma Thompson at a charity event. Taller and more gorgeous in person. Both lovely and very down to earth as you'd expect.
Bill Murray - again unexpectedly tall and quite a presence. Polite and mild- mannered though - had expected him to be rude for some reason!

Dullardmullard · 07/01/2024 21:16

My lad was invited to a friends wedding along with me his mum and unbeknown to us Matt Smith was there as he knew the bride and one of my lads pals was saying why’s *** surrounded is he waffling shit you better rescue him and I look puzzled that’s not my lad and he hears me and smiles ( I knew who he was). Thinking no more of it him and my lad come in together grinning and laughing like old pals as they’d met in the foyer earlier . Everyone then looks and I’m asked why didn’t you tell us about your famous lad. Well the three of us burst out laughing. Lad and Matt stayed on whilst “their mum” went home. I still laugh at that. Matt periodically emails his lookalike to this day.

many moons ago now I went to get Ken Stotts autograph as I heard he was in the area of his series he was doing and a very young David Tennant was there to. He took the huff when I didn’t know who he was and didn’t want his autograph I wanted Ken’s and told him to grow up

Ken then said “that’s you told then” we burst out laughing at the absurdity of it all and went to the pub to get drunk this was 1993

I’ve also met Tom Baker fleetingly in a book shop we smiled at each other Colin Baker too he waved thinking he knew me and apologised for it I just laughed. We spoke for a bit about life and family.

there seems to be a theme of meeting the Doctors 😂 😜

If you watched the American trial you'd have seen that he's a thoroughly decent man. Amber Herd went out of her way to destroy him but thankfully she came across as a vindictive liar.

I watched it. I used to be a big fan of his.
The US trial didn't overturn the British one in which he was found guilty of domestic abuse, you do realise that?

During the US trial he displayed the behaviours of a controlling, vindictive and abusive man and as much as I have admired him as an actor, I wouldn't trust him further than I could throw him.

However badly Amber Herd may have behaved, doesn't change his guilt. Astonished to see apologists for him on the website.

I've met most of the Royals and yes, they were exactly as they come across on TV - including Prince Andrew. Princess Margaret had had a very good lunch and was a little tired I remember.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 07/01/2024 21:24

I danced with Richard Branson once. He was a very odd person. He picked my friend up and threw her over his shoulder. She was not pleased at all!
