I like it and I think people are being overly critical. It softens the room and your kids have a nice soft space to lay/fight/make rug angels. We don't all live in homes straight out of Homes and Gardens.

Also, top tip for lifting up sofa without help: get a piece of wood (long chopping board/old cricket bat/walking stick - B&Q have free bits of wood by their exit doors). Put said piece of wood on something solid (other piece of wood, a frozen bottle of ice, books on top of each other) slide wood under sofa and use solid thing as a pivot to take the weight of lifting sofa slightly while the kids slide it under - they can do it by 'shuffling' on the rug. It is a bit of a faff but it means you don't have to rely on other adults to help.

If you ever do get rid of it, IKEA do a rug for £18 (plus £6.50) for the non slippy mat that goes underneath but it's completely washable in the machine. My pets ruin rugs (bastards) so I buy cheap, washable ones. Some of them have lasted for years and wash well.

Hmm, I think the colour is wrong for the room (too warm). It's also too big and too plain.

I don't know if I can do that wood thing . Because it's a corner sofa and they are all connected with a slot thing .

Apprently this rig is machine washable. Can't see it fitting in a machine though.

My house will never look like it's from homes and gardens 😅

The second pic of the rug is much better and the dog is marvellous.

The dog doesn’t look too impressed 😊

Shithole101 oh I see what you mean about not being able to lift it as a corner sofa.

Being warm, with happy children where you're all comfortable and cosy is more important than the rug not sitting right. It's not a competition and I think it looks lovely.

Missingmyusername · 02/01/2024 21:44

I know who you are OP, 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻well done. I think the rug is just too big for the area, could be hard to keep clean with the dog. I would swap it for a smaller rug, with shorter pile that’s easier to clean and vacuum personally. Aside from that all looks great. Keep it up!

MRSMTO · 02/01/2024 21:46

OP, I have the same wallpaper as you. I tried out the gold thing too before settling on a dark blue as a felt gold was a bit much! Can't do much now unless you can afford a new smaller rug! But, I don't think it looks as bad as you think.

It's Valspar Twinkle Twinkle from B&Q!

Yours looks fantastic, I definitely can't have a dark rug though it will pick the hairs up really bad.

Ulysees · 02/01/2024 22:04

No definitely don't get a dark rug. My old dog was the same colour as yours and I'd have been hoovering non stop.
I hope you find a compromise. Putting it under the sofa and a pouffe sounds good.

Ulysees · 02/01/2024 22:09

MRSMTO you have a good eye. I did similar with my leafy wallpaper except mine's green. I picked a greeny/turquoise shade from the pattern for my walls.

I'm not going to comment on the rug but op I just want to say you have a really refreshing attitude! You're not rude to posters who are being rude, you're holding your own, and you seem to have the confidence to know what you like, and to know what you will or won't do :).

I second this! You are steaming ahead with your decorating and organising! Great work!

Ulysees · 02/01/2024 23:06

I third that! Well done for being dignified OP.

It's to much hard work to be rude back . I would feel guilty as well. I don't really know what I like 😅. And yeah if I feel strongly and I know it won't work for me then I won't do it.

You're doing great and people need to remember that we all have our own taste in home decor.

Op you don't need to follow the 'rules' for laying a rug, you only need to lay it the way you like it and what works for your family. Some rugs don't look right under sofas, some do, some work better against a fireplace, some are better against a wall.

That room looks fairly large, it's hard to tell the space between the sofa and TV unit, which is looking great now, what about seeing what it's like pulled into the centre of the room, between the sofa and TV unit.

I 4th this.
I’ve seen your previous posts Op too, and your room looks great - you’re doing so well with it.
Hopefully you can get someone to help with the sofa to push the rug back under the sofa so you can see what it looks like. You should be able to prop it up to hoover / clean under it if needs be. (Though, like a PP said I’ve never lifted my rug up. I go round it!)

I can pull it away from the part of the sofa where the wall is papered a bit closer to the unit . But I can't do the same for the other 2 sides because it touches the skirting

Second picture looks so much better - Big rugs are far more aesthetically pleasing than silly little ones that just float around looking like bath mats.

There's bigger problems in that room than the rug

How nasty. Do you feel better for saying that?

Op I feel your pain. I find rugs tricky too.

I've spent weeks trying to find the perfect rug, I still don't have one 😏
