If anyone gets it then they are a genius! Can’t remember any lyrics or who it’s by but it’s a female singer, very similar vibes to moonlight shadow by Mike oldfield. Maybe about a failed relationship but I can’t remember. So basically I’m asking what songs are like moonlight shadow 😂
the longest shot ever I know…

Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac sounds a bit like Moonlight Shadow I think. It may or may not tell a story, no idea.

Lost in France by Bonnie Tyler?

Fairport Convention Matty Groves tells a story, female vocalist.

But definitely no jail, he was an aristocrat and could get away with killing his wife and her lover!

Oh god now I’m thinking it might not even be a woman singing, but I really think so. I think I’ve remembered that it ends with the guy having done something bad like killing his partner or being violent in some way and knowing he is going to jail
but now im doubting myself and driving myself mad and maybe all of you too! Thanks for all the suggestions and im glad such a good playlist has been created!! Happy new year!

And while we're at it can anyone help with mine, it's 80s, female singer, the chorus is 'Domino, dominoes, everything is you',,,
I'd be amazed if anyone knows it, but I've had help with songs before.

Are you sure that isn't 'January, February' by Barbara Dixon!?

No, afraid not. Def not hazard but this song does tell a story I think in the same way that hazard does.

I Did What I Did For Maria?

I was just about to suggest this one too. It was released in 1971, but would probably still have been played a lot on the radio in the 80s.

Sunrise this is the last day that I'll ever see
Out in the court-yard they're ready for me
But I go to my Lord with no fear
'Cause I did what I did for Maria

As I rode into town with the sun going down
All the windows were barred there was no-one around
For they knew that I'd come with my hand on my gun
And revenge in my heart for Maria
My dearest departed Maria

Take an eye for an eye and a life for a life
And somebody must die for the death of my wife
Yes, I did what I did for Maria
I did what I did for Maria

Laughter echoed across from the end of the street
There was the man I was burnin' to meet
And my mind was so calm and so clear
As I took my revenge for Maria

And he fell to the ground raisin' dust all around
But I knew he was dead long before he went down
It was quick it was clean made it easy on him
Which is more than he did for Maria
When he did what he did to Maria

Random songs that came to mind
Kim Wilde - You came
Donna Summer - Breakaway
Phil Oakley- together in electric dreams

PuppyMonkey · 01/01/2024 07:48

Since everyone now appears to be adding any old random song with a story from any decade now, I’m putting Copacabana by Barry Manilow. Grin

Loving this thread!

Random suggestion:
Babushka - Kate Bush

In a similar vein, I think it’s one of the following:

Japan - Ghosts
Santana - Samba Pa Ti
Katie Perry’s next singles release

FrogOfFrogHall · 01/01/2024 08:30

For some reason I'm thinking of fairground attraction

In that case, Bob Marley - I Shot The Sheriff. That would fit.

Case over.
