Mystery man on Strictly Come Dancing - red hair and beard

There is a man on Strictly Come Dancing, and he seems to be very powerful and important. But who is he?

Is he in charge of the programme?

He is always in the background when Claudia is presenting, mouthing words at the camera. And once, for Halloween, he dressed up as a ghost and then revealed that it had really in fact been him all along. But who is he?

I think it is has been a fairly successful thread @Lentilweaver in that it has teased out the concrete details that

  1. The man goes by the name of Neil Jones
  2. He is a dancer (not a floor manager)

There is more though, isn’t there? Mysteries remain:

Is he the best dancer?
does he not get partners because of his height?
Do people like him?
Has he signed an NDA that gives him the lifelong right to stand behind Claudia Winkleman in the Clauditorium?
Should he have made more of an effort to get Alex out of her roly poly?

Isn’t this exactly what Mumsnet is for?

And I am still hoping to see a clip of him dancing with Shirley because that sounds delightful.

He is an amazing choreographer and is highly thought of by the other pro dancers and ex dancers.
His partner was due to give birth during this series so i think this may be the reason he wasn't given a celebrity this year, he wasn't letting a dance partner down if he had to shoot away.

Plenty of videos of Neil and Katya dancing in competitions.

You very rarely see anywhere near that standard on Strictly, even in the pros group dance now, as it's mainly contemporary and pop video style choreography.

Well, pickle my walnuts (as Len would say), this Cha Cha Cha shows a whole other side to Neil. He's like a young be-sequinned Tom Cruise!!

He's not powerful. He's not important. He's a random. If he disappeared off the screen very few people would notice. His wife dumped him. You sound obsessed.

Neil Jones. He’s a great dancer. He didn’t have a celeb partner this year, probably as his partner had a baby in October.
