Mystery man on Strictly Come Dancing - red hair and beard

There is a man on Strictly Come Dancing, and he seems to be very powerful and important. But who is he?

Is he in charge of the programme?

He is always in the background when Claudia is presenting, mouthing words at the camera. And once, for Halloween, he dressed up as a ghost and then revealed that it had really in fact been him all along. But who is he?

I don't think he's that tall among the male professionals. The actress he had in hte Christmas special was taller than he was. He has also just had a new baby with a Love Island woman. (Why do I know so much about Neil Jones?)

Idea for television programme:

The Curse of Strictly

Jilted dancer-spouses teach the jilted spouses of Strictly celebrities to dance.

He could do all the dances and tell you to phone in at the end of the show.

Don’t tell me that no one has thought of this!!!

There is someone they show on It Takes Two occasionally, who I think is the stage manager, that looks like Neil. It is probably him.

As a pro he would probably be able to learn any of the dances in about an hour if he had to stand in. I find him one of the more irritating Strictly personalities, hard to say why, but he does seem a bit attention-seeking. I don't think the fact that Katya gets a celeb partner every year and he doesn't has anything to do with flings, she gets a partner because she is by far and away one of the best at the job.

Why would a stage manager stand behind Claudia Winkleman on a live TV show surrounded by professional dancers and indicate/mouth that people should phone in?

I think he didn’t get a celeb partner this year because his baby was due to be born during the series so he wouldn’t be able to give the show his full attention.

He did the Christmas show, and he had a starring role in the Strictly Professionals tour.

And yes I’m way too invested in Strictly!

I may be wrong but I think Neil is actually one of the more talented dancers with multiple titles, I always get a bit irritated that he never seems to get a dancer when he's one of the best. Would love to see what he could do if given the chance with a talented celebs.

On It Takes Two recently Neil was dancing with Shirley Ballas. They were demonstrating the dances and explaining the steps. It was lovely to watch.

For some totally unknown reason he grinds my gears! I cannot stand him! He is super pushy, obviously thinks so much of himself, very annoying.

I should feel sorry for him after how his marriage broke up but simply can't.

Didn't mean it to be harsh at all, just factual! She still gets a celebrity to dance with every year while he sort of mooches about in the background and does the group dances.
Not sure what he does apart from that.

He is short, gurns and is irritating beyond belief imo. You are welcome to him.

This. I think the bosses know he's disliked by too many people to give him a partner. I find him highly irritating.

This thread has made me laugh so much thank you @Elthamjohn !!! Me and Dd are long standing strictly fans and playing 'spot neil' is a good game. I agree the producers play on his fame as being ever present but not often partnered - e.g. he was Allen in the big Barbie number instead of Ken.
I think its part of his 'thing' to make him stand out - like Diane's red hair !

From what you are all saying, I think he’s ‘got’ something on somebody. There is no other explanation.

Will it be written into his contract that he always has to stand behind Claudia?
