Mystery man on Strictly Come Dancing - red hair and beard

There is a man on Strictly Come Dancing, and he seems to be very powerful and important. But who is he?

Is he in charge of the programme?

He is always in the background when Claudia is presenting, mouthing words at the camera. And once, for Halloween, he dressed up as a ghost and then revealed that it had really in fact been him all along. But who is he?

Professional dancer Neil Jones, used to be married to Katya Jones until she had her 'fling' with Seann Walsh. His (Neil's) star has waned while hers has gone on undimmed.

But if he isn’t dancing - what is his job? He must have a job.

He seems revered to me.

In our family we keep a tally of the number of times he skids across the dance floor like a seven year old boy at a wedding disco.

What do you mean what's his job? Same as the rest of them. Dancer.

There's always been dancers who don't get a partner. Nancy was one for ages. And Lauren.

You just notice him as he is pushy.

He is one of the pros, he dances in the group dances. He’s had a celeb partner twice. I think he choreographs some of the routines. He’s been on the show since 2016 but I like the idea that he is a revered, important mystery man. Haha 😆

Didn't mean it to be harsh at all, just factual! She still gets a celebrity to dance with every year while he sort of mooches about in the background and does the group dances.
Not sure what he does apart from that.

He literally communicates to the audience over Claudia Winkleman’s shoulder, telling us to phone in.

As if he is the bursar of Strictly Come Dancing.

If one of the coupled up male dancers gets injured/ill he can stand in for them so their celeb partner can still practice or even perform their dance.

It's happened before on Strictly.

Just that no one should be made to stop dancing with celebrities, just because your wife has left you for a celebrity.

That is the definition of ‘harsh’, surely?

As lots of the celebs get new partners and I suspect it is people like him who are their new partners.

At which point, he is a bit superior isn’t he? That is a big job. No wonder he is conspicuous.

I think you are reading far too much into this @Elthamjohn. The producers will decide which of the professional dancers get a celeb partner based on all sorts of factors - their height, popularity with the audience, teaching skills etc. Nadia Bychova is a popular pro and didn't get a partner this year. Johannes was only in the group dancers for about 4 years before getting a celeb partner.

he is in the professional routines he occasionally has a partner but not often.

Being an understudy might be difficult and important but it doesn’t make you revered and high status 🤣

it feels like the producers are trolling him at this point he’s been around for so long and is high profile (eg we know his name) but he doesn’t get a partner.

I can’t stand him, he makes me feel irritated. There are always dancers who really push their way to be on camera a lot. Janette was the same.
He was on the Xmas special with a partner. On Strictly fan pages, there are a mix of people who like him and get irritated that he doesn’t have a celeb, and others who notice he just pushes himself forward. I think this year his partner was due with their baby and so he couldn’t commit to a partner.
The fact you wonder if he’s revered and powerful has made me smile.
