6am Quality Street diet

Helenahandkart · 27/12/2023 06:36

Perimenopausal insomnia means I’m sitting in the couch at 6am eating Quality Street musing about all the people who say that they’re starting their diets today.
How is it possible to start a diet on the 27th? Do these people not have any Christmas chocolate?
I have a fridge full of cream and Baileys, there are peanuts and Twiglets everywhere, and mountains and mountains of chocolate and sweets and gingerbread houses - most of which were given to us as presents. Any plans to diet are postponed until we’ve worked our way through it all.
Do the dieters just throw it all in the bin? And not go to any new year parties?

I’m with those saying it’s creepy to search back and bring up past posts here. If op wants a lighthearted thread about Xmas excess what harm does that do?
FWIW I am starting to limit my overindulgence by just having a small amount of the Christmas food we have been gifted each day. These gifts were not expected or desired and I will take anything unopened to the food bank.

Because when someone has an ED, some comments that encourage or discourage certain eating habits can be harmful. Food is hard to be genuinely lighthearted about when you have EDs. I think it’s quite concerning when people with EDs try to mislead others, they’re often in a real spiral with their ED when they want to do this ime.

Anyway, I don’t think this thread is good for OP so I’m not going to post further. I hope people think before they post.

would you say same if it was a poster lightheartedly starting a thread about tucking into a glass of mulled wine but her extensive posting history is about her very long standing and current serious alcohol dependency

because this is the equivalent but with binge eating

I have read the entire thread and was sad to read the information provided regarding other threads of the Op, which most certainly does put a different perspective on the thread.

How are you OP?

Loubilou23 · 04/01/2024 10:45

I honestly can't believe what started as a lighthearted thread turned into such a barrage of shaming and smugness so quickly...

Hope you enjoyed the chocolates OP and nightmare about the sleeping. I don't sleep brilliantly at 53 but have found that a few things help 1) taking my progesterone at night 2) if things are bad taking either melatonin or The Restored night time vitamins 3) a meditation every single night 4) no alcohol and 5) Magnesium every day. What doesn't help is the bladder but I do find I am able to get back to sleep fairly quickly if I follow the above.

Kudos to you losing 3 stone, I too lost 3 stone and it was hard!

Oh do behave.....honestly....a few christmas chocolates at 6.00am during the Christmas break doesn't constitute binge eating. Get a grip, honestly 😂

This OP has posted all over mumsnet multiple times about her binge eating disorder and her unhappiness about it. So i do get the relevance of this poster posting

NewYearNewYu · 04/01/2024 11:39

Even people with disordered eating are allowed quality street for breakfast over Christmas (drops gavel).

i suppose even alcoholics are allowed the odd tipple over christmas too in your mind

NewYearNewYu · 04/01/2024 12:07

That’s the problem with disordered eating, you can’t just stop eating. So what exactly do you think she should eat on Christmas Day.

allaloneandlost · 04/01/2024 12:10

What a nasty thread this has turned into from what started lighthearted. The OP mentioned nothing about eating disorders in her post. I read it as lighthearted musings. Those playing detective into previous posts and making nasty comments need to look at themselves before attacking. I wonder if there's projecting going on as well.

Thanks. Yes, it's the piling on. Once one or two start all hell breaks loose on MN.

withthischoice · 04/01/2024 15:39

no piling on
no abuse
just posters aware of the Op and suggesting that encouraging her to go for it and crack on is perhaps not the most sensible approach

allaloneandlost · 04/01/2024 16:01

Yes, being called a liar and a knuckle chaser. Not nice comments.
