What's your plan to use up leftover turkey

If you have any turkey left, what's your plans for it? Any tips/recipes you would like to share?

Dh has just made me crusty french bread with butter, cranberry sauce and turkey. I still have loads of turkey left. Bought a Tesco serves 13 turkey for me,dh and dd. I really don't want it to get wasted.

Turkey and ham pie

Pifful · 26/12/2023 15:35

Mine has all gone in the freezer in portions. Will use other leftovers first.

rubyslippers · 26/12/2023 15:35

I portion everything up - turkey, gravy, potatoes and veggies and freeze for pie fillings
I then use the bones to make stock for soups
Turkey sandwiches as well for today or tomorrow

RainDropsStorm · 26/12/2023 15:48

We are not a fan of curry so wouldn't make that.

Oh turkey and ham pie sounds right up dh street. Sounds a lovely winters night dinner.

Turkey broth sounds amazing, good comfort food. Is it easy to make?

I didn't know that you could freeze Turkey Confused

Thanks so much for all these great ideas Grin

I've a turkey, ham and leek pie in the oven with roasties and honey carrots.

Vhrukn · 26/12/2023 15:50

I bought a big breast roll, almost £30 and nobody liked it.

No idea what to do as no one wants to eat it. Feel awful binning it.

cantkeepawayforever · 26/12/2023 15:55

Sliced, with salad and baked potatoes.
Pie.
Creamy curry (very mild recipe).
Sandwiches / filled baguettes.

Then we will freeze the rest ready-chopped for curries / pies / ‘meat in sauce’ type dishes (anything we would usually use chicken in) aiming to eat it once a week as it’s not so good after long freezing.

Frenchyq25 · 26/12/2023 15:55

My husband always has a turkey bhuna on boxing day, so will make 2 portions and freeze one.
Will make some into pies ( turkey and leek and turkey and mushroom). And DD and boyfriend are coming to stay tomorrow, so will have turkey and, stuffing and cranberry quesadillas.

SorrowsPrayers · 26/12/2023 15:56

In Delia Smith's Christmas book there is a recipe for Turkey en Croute...basically a posh pasty! It is simple to make and bloody lovely! I make it every year.

mrsbyers · 26/12/2023 15:56

We usually have curry but no turkey this year

Defiantlynot41 · 26/12/2023 16:02

I always make this www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/turkey-recipes/turkey-and-sweet-leek-pie/

Sometimes swap the bacon for leftover roast ham

Sometimes just freeze the leftover turkey & ham and make it later in January- or use the mix to make 2 smaller pies and freeze one. Always delicious

festivetinseling · 26/12/2023 16:03

So far: turkey sandwiches, turkey soup, and several rather bloated-looking cats. 😂

Tomorrow we will move on to turkey and ham pie, then curry, and with whatever we still have left, I might carve some and put it in the freezer for a scratch roast dinner in a few weeks' time, and the furry marauders will get another helping of scraps.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 26/12/2023 16:04

Sandwiches with a moist maker obviously.
We're having them for dinner with proper homemade chips.

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/12/2023 16:05

I have stripped the carcass and put the bones in a big pot with water, a halved onion, carrot, bay and peppercorns. It’s simmering away now. I’ll use the broth as a basis for soup or stocks for risotto etc. I’ll freeze in takeaway containers or freezer zip locks in portions. Carved the rest for buffet and sandwiches and if left a curry in a couple of days.

Ahnobother · 26/12/2023 16:05

I make this with a mix of the turkey and veg. It is absolutely delicious.

Did you have guests that didn't come?

It's a lot of turkey 😂 but we always do the same (we love turkey sarnies though and x5 of use have them daily until we run out!)

A mistake maker is a slice of gravy soaked bread in the middle.
It's a Friends reference.
