What's your plan to use up leftover turkey

If you have any turkey left, what's your plans for it? Any tips/recipes you would like to share?

Dh has just made me crusty french bread with butter, cranberry sauce and turkey. I still have loads of turkey left. Bought a Tesco serves 13 turkey for me,dh and dd. I really don't want it to get wasted.

Leftover thigh is lovely with hoisin sauce.

DilemmaDelilah · 26/12/2023 16:51

I do cold turkey with ham, jacket potatoes and salad on boxing day.
Turkey fricassee with rice and veg
Turkey and ham pie
Turkey soup, using a stock made from the bones and other inedible bits, with lots of veg and some turkey meat in it as well
My favourite sandwich is turkey, lettuce, cranberry sauce and branston pickle on really good brown seedy bread
And if I have any turkey meat left over I freeze it to put into things later in the year

Huge vat of turkey soup on the go - it's my favourite food of Xmas as reminds me of my dad who used to always make it. This uses the bones and little bits which fall off them after pressure cooking.

The rest will be sandwiches, a curry vat and maybe a pie 😋

I've just thrown a merry mess of leftovers in the airfryer. Turkey, stuffing, sprouts, swede mash, potato mash, cauliflower cheese and gravy. Hoping it turns out nicely!

LeggyLegsEleven · 26/12/2023 16:57

2nd dinner tonight, sandwiches, turkey and chips tomorrow. Should be done by then.

CormorantStrikesBack · 26/12/2023 17:00

Boxing Day pie. Stuffing, turkey , cheesy leeks. But put what leftovers you want in. Shop bought shortcrust pastry. Amazing.

Ahnobother · 26/12/2023 17:02

@NorthernGirlie let us know how it turns out as I've got enough for the leftover tart recipe that I posted earlier and something else.

We've had sandwiches for lunch today too - Turkey, brie, stuffing, cranberry. Yum.

bobby81 · 26/12/2023 17:04

We give ours to the dogs!

NorthernGirlie · 26/12/2023 17:13

It was bloody lovely! I should have taken a picture... I enjoyed it more than yesterday's dinner. Stress free comfort food in a big bowl.

Dh thinks I'm nuts having a "dinner" 2 days running. He's on cheese, cold meat and crackers.

I'll be making myself the same tomorrow! All hail the air fryer!

This only works if you do Delia’s gammon ham in port with orange and cloves. Basically chuck ham and turkey in a pie, preferably make your own pastry. It’s yummy.

grayhairdontcare · 26/12/2023 17:15

Oh and turkey, stuffing and pigs in blankets toad in the hole is yummy

Good god that sounds delicious!

Poblano · 26/12/2023 17:18

We had leftover turkey for lunch today, with stuffing, sausage rolls, crisps and pickles. Tomorrow we'll have turkey, ham and leek pie for dinner (I'm cooking the ham for dinner tonight). On Thursday I'll use up the last of it in turkey, stuffing and cranberry baguettes with chips and coleslaw.

mondaytosunday · 26/12/2023 17:29

Love cold sandwiches with everything in! We don't do anything fancy like curry. Having another big dinner tonight (with a ham) so probably have even more leftovers!

Clutterbugsmum · 26/12/2023 17:29

I will freeze dark meat for leek and turkey later in the winter. Breast meat and stuffing will be used to make sandwiches and left in few days will be frozen as well.

Garman · 26/12/2023 17:32

Why did you buy such a big turkey? Why wouldn’t you be able to freeze turkey?

Podgedodge · 26/12/2023 17:35

Turkey tezrazzini, that’s not spelled right sorry.

tinytemper66 · 26/12/2023 17:35

Curry too.

minisoksmakehardwork · 26/12/2023 17:42

Turkey and gammon pasties. Whip up a white sauce, blitz turkey and gammon together, add sauce and a little seasoning, put into puff pastry. Sometimes I add a spoon of cranberry sauce too. Cook and then freeze for later.

My mum used to do turkey and bacon pasties with onion. We loved them as kids, with gravy later on after Xmas. Other than using one of those worktop mincers to mince the meat and some bacon, I do t know how she did them so had to make my own version. They always go down well as leftovers.

CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay · 26/12/2023 17:42

Second dinner today. Some will be frozen but tomorrow will have Xmas bubble and squeak - all thrown in a pan with extra potatoes, and probably get a curry out of it as well. Got a crown from the butchers that said feed 8 and was massive!

soupmaker · 26/12/2023 17:48

Leftovers dinner tonight. Had a turkey, salami, brie and cranberry sauce toastie for lunch. Buying a ham tomorrow so we can have a turkey and ham pie. We had a turkey crown to feed 7, only 4 of us but we seem to have only eaten less than half of it.
