Couldn't sleep so come downstairs.

The only thing I wanted for Christmas is a fleecy cushion with arms. DH spotted one in Tesco yesterday and bought it home for me

The dog has ralphed on it!

Not the best start to the morning!

I love these threads.

I love the sense of calm from folk already up, having a quiet coffee, anticipating the day ahead. I love the sense of excitement waiting for little folk to wake up.

And for those of you concerned about the number of presents, know that you’ve done well. Our kids don’t remember the size of their pile or the amount of gifts. They don’t compare to others. I think it’s just us adults who do that.
Our kids will know that they are loved. That’s beyond measure.

Marry Christmas all. May it be filled with peace, love & joy. If this is a difficult day for you, know that you are loved too.

Me too - and you’ve written a beautiful post. Merry Christmas to you and yours, and to everyone else reading this and enjoying a few moments of peace with a tea or coffee (and in my case part of a chocolate orange… hey, it’s fruit isn’t it??) 🎅

Did all these sick dogs help themselves to milk and biscuits overnight or something?

Ohhhhhh dear!
My Whipped honked in the hall the other day after too many mini sausages and sausage rolls..

Was it unwrapped?
What a bummer...Dogs don't seek to go outside if they feel sick in my experience, your dog probably was lying on it and yokked.

I'd get another if possible....Hopefully not too expensive..and let the dog have it after a wash as a 'blanket'.

Happy Christmas! 🎄

Morning! Firstly I'd like to send a hug from a wee chunky Scottish lady to those of you missing loved ones today. It's a tricky time of year for a lot of people, I know.

We're having a gentle day here. I got up at 6.30 as always to see to our pets, DH is still fast asleep. I love this part of the day, the animals all settle back down in a cosy heap and I read my book and have 2 big mugs of tea.

I have the tree lights on and the ones on the garland on the fireplace, and I got the most gorgeous candle for my birthday so I have that lit too.

Looking forward to unwrapping our presents later - we've just taken on a pair of rescued guinea pigs and they were wheeking away at the top of their wee voices when we were wrapping things the other day 😍.

Don't know what time we'll be eating today but it's just us anyway so probably about 6pm.

Merry Christmas to you all, I hope everyone is able to carve out a little bit of peace and contentment for themselves today.

FrostieBoabby · 25/12/2023 07:45

DH got home from work at 10:30pm last night and headed to work again at 7am this morning so it's just me and the cat for breakfast.

We opened all our presents last night, all I need to do today is get showered and drive to family 150 miles away for xmas dinner. Then drive home again tonight, hopefully get home in time to finally have a Christmas drink!

Not the Xmas I would have picked but here's a big shout out to everyone working as normal today and keeping our essential and critical services going.

Winnading · 25/12/2023 07:47

Merry xmas all. I've been up a while. Got stuff going in the slow cooker.
Someone up thread mentioned stuffing, yep. I forgot stuffing. Dont care theres enough already without it.
Am wondering if chantenay carrots are better roasted or boiled. Thinking I can do my mash and Yorkshire pud batter now. Wondering if table and chairs will in fact be put up today or 5 of us are eating on our knees.

Just me and dogs up, tempted to blast DP out of bed to get shit like the table and chairs ready. But its Christmas so who really cares?

Morning all!

just got woken by my dog vomiting - it seems to be a theme!!

Is it because of too many treats??

I hope no dogs need a trip to OOH {out of hours} vets today or tomorrow because of ingested mince pies or grapes...or chocolate! This will be very ££££.

bloomtoperish · 25/12/2023 07:49

Merry Xmas, I'm quietly seething as my sister cleared away the santa tray (with the nibbled carrot and mince pie etc) after her 9 year old saw it, but before my 6 year old woke up (excited to look at the tray to see if santa had been) no apology or anything, what a cunt

peachescariad · 25/12/2023 08:01

Omg loving this thread! I wish I had a vomiting pet to add to the fray! Adult DC seem to have kept their Christmas Eve alcohol down so I can't even add clutching of loos and holding hair back to the thread.
Also have mum guilt that DD doesn't have much to open compared to her brothers....aagghhhh!

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 25/12/2023 08:02

Happy Christmas 🎄
A restless night for me, I eventually fell asleep at 4 for two hours 🙄
Off for a dog walk shortly then I’ll start sorting out dinner. Just the two of us here so a lovely peaceful day for me.

Are you at her house OP? Ask her to prepare another tray. Very thoughtless

LonelynSad · 25/12/2023 08:04

What does ralphed mean? Humped? If so eewwwww. My Mum's dog has a jumping cushion 🤢

Baffledandalarmed · 25/12/2023 08:06

No vomitting dogs my end.

Instead I woke up to the little dog jumping up and down on my chest and the big one sticking his tongue in my ear (I slept in and they would usually have been fed and walked hours ago).

Lots of lovely snuggles and a peaceful coffee.

Merry Christmas All!

Ralphed = barfed/spewed/vomited.

BitOfChocolate · 25/12/2023 08:09

That's what struck me too! Almost every poster mentions dogs! Maybe because they're mostly the ones who have to be up ridiculously early. No dogs here, but I fell asleep on the sofa last night while family played games around me so have already had my full 8 hours. Just me and dh today, we'll go for a walk on the coast and then out to friends for a very late xmas lunch/dinner around 6pm.
Just eyeing up the large glass of port that went undrunk last night.

Doginthebed · 25/12/2023 08:09

Merry Christmas everyone. 🎄
Been awake since 6. Husband gone to work with adults with additional needs and won’t be home til 2:30. Daughter in bed still (15) WhatsApp tells me she was last online at 02:53 so won’t see her much before midday , then she’s waitressing in the pub til 5. We’re doing presents and roast tomorrow.
Currently snuggling under blanket with my three dogs, listening to their dulcet snoring.🐾🤗

Taytocrisps · 25/12/2023 08:10

I'm awake. I've fed the cats and I'm having a quick cuppa. Then I've to shower and empty the litter trays before Ex calls over, so we can do Santa together (DD is 19 so a little old for Santa). We'll do Santa together, have breakfast and then we'll go our separate ways.

Hope all the MNers have a lovely day after all the preparation and hard work you've all put in.

BitOfChocolate · 25/12/2023 08:10

I second that.

I’ve been up since 5am with period cramps - 6 days early!! 🙃 DH has left a very interesting looking stocking on the end of the bed for me which I’m looking forward to opening once he’s awake.
happy Christmas everyone 🎄🎄🎄

Have you opened it? What was in it?? Hope your cramps subside…

Doyouthinktheyknow · 25/12/2023 08:17

Merry Christmas everyone.

That did make me laugh op, I hope things improve and the dog isn’t actually unwell🎄🤶

I was awake before 4am but did manage to get back to sleep after a couple of hours and the cat let us lie in until 8am which is a treat.

Nothing much happening here, me and my crochet, won’t see the dses for hours as they are young adults.

Good wishes to anyone working😊🎄😊

Warmhandscoldheart · 25/12/2023 08:29

Merry Christmas everyone 🎄
Ddog did his vomiting yesterday, too much stick chewing on his woodland walk!!
I'm back in bed listening to my next-door neighbours enjoying their present unwrapping. It's bringing back memories of past Christmas days with my DC.
Oh how I miss them being younger 😔

I still remember the childhood Christmas I was sitting on my mum and dad's bed at godawful o' clock, so excited to be opening my presents from Father Christmas that I puked all over the beautiful, brand new special teddy I'd just unwrapped as well as my pyjamas and all their bedclothes. My poor mum and dad, and poor you, too — vomit is no way to start a Christmas 😓 I hope it gets better from here!

My daughter did this tonight, in the corridor including vomiting on the walls and cupboard both sides of the corridor, poor thing. I guess she was lucky as she didn't splatter her gift.

Gensola · 25/12/2023 08:32

@Namechangenamechange321 I feel lots better after paracetamol and coffee, thank you! I have been spoilt - stocking contained a sweaty Betty sports bra and new sports socks, a posh body cream, chocolates, socks with sausage dogs on, a silk pillow case, muslin face cloths and a nice cleanser and a new coffee travel mug. All very much things I will use and enjoy. 🎄😄🥳

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/12/2023 08:33

Happy Christmas, the cat woke me up at 6ish and finally dragged me out of bed at 7.30, the dog was still snoozing and hasn’t vomited. One teen is up the other in bed, just waiting for my sister to come round with her dogs to go on a dog walk and then bath before taking food to friends house and cooking a late lunch. Small present pile her but no grumbles as we are going on a post exam holiday in July.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 25/12/2023 08:34

Merry Christmas!

also dealing with vomit…my own so awake on and off all night (thanks SIL for visiting when had D+V 😡)

dog is vomit free though and I think I feel ok ish now.
