Happy Christmas Eve! What's Everyone up to today?

Morning all!

Interested to see how Everyone spends their Christmas Eve 🎄

I'm taking the DCs (x3) and DDogs to a National Trust site this Morning to burn off some excited energy! Making a flask of Hot Chocolate and Mince Pies for after.

Then have to visit a few Friends to drop off the last of our Cards and small gifts!

In the afternoon we're decorating our gingerbread house and watching the Polar Express (for the 100th time 😁)

Undecided for dinner just yet, Xmas Eve Meal isn't really a big thing in our House and the Children are already asking for MCDonalds!

Hope to have the Stockings filled, presents under the Tree and a glass of Bubbles in hand by 9 o'clock 🥂

Quick dust and hoover, whip a few things out of the freezer to defrost & then a nice Christmas film. Drinks at the neighbours early evening, then a meal from Cook.

Off to the butchers this morning to pick up the turkey and the rest of the meat order - once I can be bothered to get out of bed. Prep a few things for tomorrow and then out for an early lunch with the extended family before going to the Christmas play at the local theatre this afternoon. Back for drinks and the Christmas Eve buffet (low effort, mostly cheeses and pates) and maybe a game this evening. Looking forward to it!

By 9?!… Are you hoping dc will be asleep by then?

We are going for a walk on the pier. I love spending Xmas at the seaside.

CurlewKate · 24/12/2023 08:45

Well, I will mostly be being a enormous mother hen over my adult children who I am beyond delighted are both with us for a couple of days. I've already taken ds coffee and a cinnamon roll and dd tea and a cat....

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 24/12/2023 08:45

DD16 and I are visiting relatives to drop off cards and gifts. I need to go to my mums to get DD8's presents that I've hid at her house.
DH is 80 miles away with dd8 picking up MIL, they'll be back this afternoon.
Currently in the middle of a quick clean.
Dinner will be a Chinese, we have one every Christmas Eve, then it's tv with the family and a glass of wine.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Funkyslippers · 24/12/2023 08:47

I have an intense exercise class this morning which I'm kind of dreading but at least it should wake me up a bit. My friend has asked dd2 & I to walk her dog this afternoon but I really don't know if I can be bothered. Other than that I need to wrap the stocking presents (my dds are older but still like to have them!), might pop round to neighbours for a cuppa & do some baking

icouldhavebeensomeone · 24/12/2023 08:49

@HappyCamperTent I'm fortune enough that all 3 of my DCs are in bed by 6:30 and asleep by 7! Everynight without fail!

That’s amazing!!… Every year, without fail my youngest who’s now 10 will get up every 10 minutes and complain she can’t sleep!… She’ll do this until about midnight and I’ll have got nothing prepped! Last year I was in bed at 2am!!

So today I will be consistently drinking coffee and lounging around in preparation for a looooong night!

Umph · 24/12/2023 08:53

Currently DCs (5 and 3) are doing their own things and I’m lazing around watching Charlie and Lola on my own 😂 DH has gone for a big birthday run (he’s turning 35 tomorrow and appears to be having an existential crisis).

Later today we need to go to the pet shop and pick up cat food and a Christmas present for the cat, and drop off a Christmas present for my grandparents who have been struck down with Covid.

Will probably go for a walk or to the park with the kids this afternoon and I quite fancy a crib service but might just take youngest (eldest being assessed for ASD and it might be too much for him).

Kids will be in bed shortly after 6. DH and I will have something nice for dinner, and then I’ve got some wrapping to finish with a Bailey’s and some Christmas tunes. Bed by 9, job’s a good un.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 24/12/2023 08:53

I'm waiting for my DD to wake up, going to do her a polar breakfast then out for a run this morning, my DH is in charge of giving the place a once over as I am on cooking duty tomorrow. We're heading into town this afternoon for a walk through our lovely local park and to the cathedral to see all the Christmas trees. Dinner tonight is going to be gammon and potato gratin, there will be a bit of food prep for tomorrow. Then fizz and some games.

MintJulia · 24/12/2023 08:56

Clean the bathrooms, sort some laundry, then food prep this morning, but also expecting various friends to drop in for coffee.

I'll make & ice chocolate sponge snowmen this morning, prep the red cabbage for tomorrow, make some marzipan fruits. 🙂

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 24/12/2023 08:57

Cooking for tomorrow and supervision of the cleaning.

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 24/12/2023 08:59

DH is long days (NHS), DS (25) is a coach driver and just left for work. So it's just me today. Going to clean the house, make the cauliflower cheese and finish doing the trifle.
I'm working 7-1 tomorrow (nurse) so just enjoying the peace.

ilovebagpuss · 24/12/2023 09:00

Quiet day. Teens happy to loaf around and help in the kitchen. In laws arrive this afternoon and I have a curry and sides planned for dinner.
Curry to cook and a quick whizz round with the hoover.
Couple of little bits to wrap and maybe a walk around the fields.
This evening will be light the fire and sit around with a glass of something. Maybe a game or two.

Hopingforno2in2024 · 24/12/2023 09:04

Just waiting for our Christmas guests to be up and will then have breakfast. Awful weather here so heading to the garden centre for a browse and lunch. Then home to relax a bit before carol service at 6. Salmon and champagne wellington for dinner followed by die hard. Everything is done so no tasks needed thankfully.

icouldhavebeensomeone · 24/12/2023 09:04

@HappyCamperTent Oh gosh, that sounds tough! Sending you patience and caffeine to get through the Night! Mine are 3, 5 & 8 and I'm honestly not exaggerating when I say they are wild from the second their eyes ping open in the Morning!
So by 6:30pm they're all falling asleep anyway even I did let them stay up later 😴

May as well do the cleaning yourself?

WhamBamThankU · 24/12/2023 09:06

I have a few things to wrap later, which is good for me cos I usually do most of it Christmas Eve! We're dropping some presents off and going to the supermarket for autistic DS Christmas dinner, which is the same meal he has every day 😂 hoping to be popping open the secco once kids are in bed about 9/10

Notsurehwhattdo · 24/12/2023 09:08

Match of the day followed by the gym for me this morning. Weather is awful so chilling at home later I'd say, maybe a walk if the weather improves.

Hoping to watch Home Alone later (DC who's 7 has never watched, but is easily scared)... OP, we've never watched Polar Express, so maybe this is a good backup?!

OldTinHat · 24/12/2023 09:08

Happy Christmas Eve!

I'm waiting for my Christmas lunch to be delivered (reheat and eat tomorrow). The person delivering it will no doubt be the only person I see over the whole of the holiday period.

I'm feeling very sorry for myself. Bah humbug.

Wheeeeee · 24/12/2023 09:10

DM, DH and DS will go to church this morning, while I make gravy for tomorrow and do some hoovering/wrapping. We'll try to get DS out for a walk after lunch, but the weather is atrocious so no-one will be enthusiastic. Then we'll attempt to make and decorate a gingerbread house, though I suspect DS's attention span will be limited and DSis will probably do most of it. Salmon risotto for dinner as we all prefer something lighter on Christmas Eve.

SushiSuave · 24/12/2023 09:11

I've got presents to wrap, a dog to walk, food to eat and home alone to watch with OH and DS. Can't wait! Starting with pancakes, honey and raspberries for breakfast!

IggyAce · 24/12/2023 09:14

Morning, I’ve done the ironing and will do a quick tidy.
We are visiting family and we will call be the graveyard.
Also need to collect the Christmas meat and some party food from my dads, we ran out of space/worried we had overloaded the fridge!
This evening we will enjoy a Chinese takeaway, games and a festive movie if the kids can agree on one.

You’ve just reminded me that I need to pick up quorn nuggets (same reason) so thank you!
