Anyone on the delayed 10.35 flight from Inverness to Manchester today?

I am posting out of true desperation after what has been an extremely stressful few days.

Someone picked up my suitcase off the carousel and left their (identical make) one behind. The error was realised when I was the only one left standing and that was the only bag left circling. My suitcase is clearly marked with my name, so I’m presuming they were rushing due to the delays.

Baggage reclaim were semi helpful, but obviously little they can do as the bag had been removed and obviously taken out the airport. As in, it’s not technically “missing” and therefore out of their hands. They have explained that due to christmas etc etc, they are short staffed and even if it is returned, I may not get it back quickly as they have no responsibility for it’s loss.

Apart from the extremely expensive taxi I had sat on the meter waiting for me 🤦‍♀️ there is nothing in there of monetary value lost…

HOWEVER

The suitcase contained gifts for myself and my family, chosen and purchased at great effort by my very unwell father. I am heartbroken that it is gone. Normally I wouldn’t give a toss but was hoping to open them on christmas day and facetime him.

If anyone knows anyone that was on that flight, please could they check they haven’t got it? I will happily drive anywhere to pick it up.
I’m praying the power of the internet will maybe reunite us…
Thank you, and a very merry christmas to you all 🎅🏻

Edited to say- normally I wouldn’t give a toss about a missing bag! They normally just contain dirty clothes and other nonsense- but this just had to be the one time it didn’t!

Have you put this on Twitter? Likely to get a wider reach. Hopefully you and your case are reunited.

Mummy2Sienna · 23/12/2023 15:32

Have you opened the suitcase? Does it contain any identifying details?

Interested in this thread?

Surely the case that was left is tagged and the owner can be identified by the airline from it?

PuttingDownRoots · 23/12/2023 15:33

Won't the airport have the information about the passenger from the reclaim label?

Aposterhasnoname · 23/12/2023 15:36

The airline can trace the owner from the bag left behind. In fact there was a thread on here a couple of months ago with this very scenario.

The suitcase that was left was locked- for security reasons (completely understandably) baggage reclaim couldn’t give details and also can only contact them if the bag is registered as lost by the airline by the owner and they set up a lost luggage protocol or however they described it. Which obviously they hadn’t as they thought they had theirs.

Surely that can’t be right? It’s ridiculous. Your bag has gone missing and they know 99.9% for sure who has it!

Hummusanddipdip · 23/12/2023 15:45

Airline staff don't sound particularly helpful! If you've got someone else's bag and the label allows them to know who it belongs to, common sense would have them contact that person surely???

I truly hope you get your bag back!

ringmybe11 · 23/12/2023 15:46

Similar happened to me with Ryanair. I took the left suitcase and reported to baggage help, the airport worker identified whose it was from the label and phoned their emergency contact number on the booking. We swapped the suitcases later that day back at the airport.

ringmybe11 · 23/12/2023 15:47

Sorry meant to add, could you try the airport again or the airline and get them to contact the owner of that bag as they'll be able to identify from the baggage sticker.

Well, that was my argument. But as far as he was concerned (and of course, it’s not really this poor guy’s fault), the airline have done their bit and all bags were delivered to the right destination.
Obviously mine is now registered as lost, but the other one isn’t. As it isn’t technically lost. It’s right there.
They also took that suitcase off me as obviously I’d said it wasn’t mine- so no chance of a cheeky rummage when I got back.

So basically I have to wait for them to register theirs as “lost”. Which I’m hoping they will do very very soon.

GrumpyPanda · 23/12/2023 15:52

Hmm. I suppose your suitcase isn't technically lost as it was indeed delivered to its destination. Could you try reporting it as stolen/threaten the airline with doing so given that, again, technically is what happened?

endofthelinefinally · 23/12/2023 15:53

The airline will 100% know who has your case from the tag they put on it at check in. They are being totally unreasonable not phoning the other passenger immediately. I am so sorry, you must be so upset. It would take them 2 minutes!

endofthelinefinally · 23/12/2023 15:53

Surely it is technically stolen?

ForTonightGodisaDJ · 23/12/2023 16:09

Sending good thoughts.

Fbshe · 23/12/2023 16:16

But your bag is lost, they don’t know for definite someone has taken it. I know that is likely what has happened but they can’t just assume and then just leave it at that surely?
