Anyone on the delayed 10.35 flight from Inverness to Manchester today?

I am posting out of true desperation after what has been an extremely stressful few days.

Someone picked up my suitcase off the carousel and left their (identical make) one behind. The error was realised when I was the only one left standing and that was the only bag left circling. My suitcase is clearly marked with my name, so I’m presuming they were rushing due to the delays.

Baggage reclaim were semi helpful, but obviously little they can do as the bag had been removed and obviously taken out the airport. As in, it’s not technically “missing” and therefore out of their hands. They have explained that due to christmas etc etc, they are short staffed and even if it is returned, I may not get it back quickly as they have no responsibility for it’s loss.

Apart from the extremely expensive taxi I had sat on the meter waiting for me 🤦‍♀️ there is nothing in there of monetary value lost…

HOWEVER

The suitcase contained gifts for myself and my family, chosen and purchased at great effort by my very unwell father. I am heartbroken that it is gone. Normally I wouldn’t give a toss but was hoping to open them on christmas day and facetime him.

If anyone knows anyone that was on that flight, please could they check they haven’t got it? I will happily drive anywhere to pick it up.
I’m praying the power of the internet will maybe reunite us…
Thank you, and a very merry christmas to you all 🎅🏻

I love all of the people that use ribbons or tape to identify their cases. Great when 20 cases have electrical tape wrapped around the handle.

We don't travel often but this is exactly what we do. Tie a piece of identical ribbon on every case and hand luggage and take a picture of all the pieces lined up together.

That’s really naughty the airline weren’t going to help you! The same thing happened to me in Spain and they used the tag on the other persons bag to find their phone number and got them to bring my bag back.

I don’t use black luggage, have embroidered patches sewn to the front of each bag, and use non-generic looking luggage tags. I figure the combination of the three makes the bag unique. Apple AirTags inside for insurance.

Is it easy to unlock other people's luggage? Mine is always padlocked, but I have always been uneasy about this. (I always do the garish suitcase with clashing ribbons and bows, but that doesn't help if the case ends up on the wrong plane).

@Marylou62 and @RogersOrganismicProcess Unfortunately my father is suffering terribly from dementia. It’s truly an awful disease and it is so awful seeing him deteriorate from such a strong, articulate man to a shadow of himself. It obviously was significant effort for him to get out to any shops hence my hysteria over what would normally been a fairly mundane mix up.

I am sending all my love to both your families, I know this time of year can be especially difficult. ❤️

I do understand the baggage handler’s hands were quite tied and I am extremely grateful for the help they could give. It must be a very chaotic, stressful time for them with airports so busy for christmas. I actually cannot fault the airline at all- they have regularly transported me north for visits and always been a pleasure to fly with.

Thank you once again for everyone’s kind wishes, the gifts are now under the tree and obligatory photo sent and I wish you all a very merry christmas 🎄

I’ve walked off with someone else’s suitcase once!! Only noticed whilst I was still in the airport as I went to pull my lighter out of the bag Blush

so glad all is restored - merry Christmas to you all.

But the baggage handlers hands were not tied. I’ve known people this has happened to and baggage simply look up the person via the luggage tag and the airline has a phone number and they call them to arrange bag return/swap. No idea why they faffled on as they did and were indeed unhelpful to start with.

Open the zip of the suitcase with a pencil/pen! You might find some info re owner and contact them!

They returned the bag to the airport, and as I had registered mine “lost” they rang and asked me to come and get it.

I know they do normally deliver but due to Christmas, it wouldn’t be guaranteed until the 27th- I didn’t care- just wanted it back in my hands!!

Never been so relieved to see some luggage!

I'm sending heartfelt good wishes.. Have the happiest Christmas you can ❤️..x
