Anyone on the delayed 10.35 flight from Inverness to Manchester today?

I am posting out of true desperation after what has been an extremely stressful few days.

Someone picked up my suitcase off the carousel and left their (identical make) one behind. The error was realised when I was the only one left standing and that was the only bag left circling. My suitcase is clearly marked with my name, so I’m presuming they were rushing due to the delays.

Baggage reclaim were semi helpful, but obviously little they can do as the bag had been removed and obviously taken out the airport. As in, it’s not technically “missing” and therefore out of their hands. They have explained that due to christmas etc etc, they are short staffed and even if it is returned, I may not get it back quickly as they have no responsibility for it’s loss.

Apart from the extremely expensive taxi I had sat on the meter waiting for me 🤦‍♀️ there is nothing in there of monetary value lost…

HOWEVER

The suitcase contained gifts for myself and my family, chosen and purchased at great effort by my very unwell father. I am heartbroken that it is gone. Normally I wouldn’t give a toss but was hoping to open them on christmas day and facetime him.

If anyone knows anyone that was on that flight, please could they check they haven’t got it? I will happily drive anywhere to pick it up.
I’m praying the power of the internet will maybe reunite us…
Thank you, and a very merry christmas to you all 🎅🏻

OH GOD MUMSNET THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!! Bag located!! Massive panic over!

On way to obtain it and then back for an enormous drink.

thank you thank you thank you again!

Delighted for you @feelingalittlehorse.
How did Mumsnet help ?

ChateauDuMont · 23/12/2023 16:27

What a relief.

It could be that the other bag also contacted items of importance so they were also frantic to exchange the bags back!

ItsMyPartyParty · 23/12/2023 16:27

Ah brilliant, I’m glad you’re sorted!

This has happened to us twice, I now put something obnoxiously garish on all our luggage.

Fab!

BubbleBubbleBubbleBubblePop · 23/12/2023 16:34

So glad you got it back!

I too would like to know how!

mateysmum · 23/12/2023 16:37

This happened to 2 colleagues of my husband - one male, one female - who unknowingly "swapped" bags on the carousel. The guy was called to the customs desk and asked to open his suitcase. He was very perplexed and embarrassed when he saw a collection of female underwear etc. fortunately, just as he wondered how he was going to explain this, his female colleague spotted the mistake.

Palava57 · 23/12/2023 16:39

How nice to have a happy ending and so quickly 💐

GrandHighPoohbah · 23/12/2023 16:41

I am joining to find out how!

Crikeyalmighty · 23/12/2023 16:45

I once had this happen on a train- you know the bit at the end of a carriage where you store cases- I walked to pick mine up once into my station and someone had taken it (there was an identical case but not mine as mine had my initials on it)

Took me 12 days to get it back(they handed in at the final station on the route) and for I think the first time ever I had put my laptop in it - nightmare

Holding my hand right up as being invested (nosey)

I'm so glad you have located it - but how?

CormorantStrikesBack · 23/12/2023 16:54

Am also keen to find out how.

JamieKnows · 23/12/2023 16:54

This is why I always have a tile in all my bags

Whicker · 23/12/2023 17:00

I think she means thank you for the emotional support, rather than practical support in getting the bag back!

Thank goodness it’s found!

RogersOrganismicProcess · 23/12/2023 17:00

Congratulations op, I opened the thread and was heartbroken for you and your dad.

I might have been slightly over invested as I’ve just spent the day buying and wrapping presents for my mum, from my dad (who isin the last stage of dementia). I have held on until now as he wasn’t expected to make it, but didn’t want her to have nothing from him. He always made such an effort, like it sounds your dad has.

I hope your dad gets great pleasure from seeing you all open his gifts. Merry Christmas 🎄

Why is a tile useful? Like a bathroom tile?

Samsung version of an AirTag. I would definitely put an AirTag in my luggage. I have a Tile on my house keys but I thought for Tiles to work you have to be in close proximity to it?

BashfulClam · 23/12/2023 17:06

I watch the carousel like a hawk! Someone once took my mums case, she spotted it across the airport as she had some tape on it with her name. She went over and politely said ‘you have my case!’ The guy said ‘naw hen I don’t think so!’ So she said ‘oh is your name ‘xx xxxx?’ He looked confused and she said ‘what does it say on that tape? I’ll just take this back!’ He started to apologise but she just walked away with her case.

CormorantStrikesBack · 23/12/2023 17:07

Dh always sticks brightly coloured electrical tape on suitcases in a big cross formation to hopefully avoid this issue.

The airline won't tell her who and where - Data Protection.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 23/12/2023 17:08

Great update!! Wishing you a happy Christmas 🎄

PuttingDownRoots · 23/12/2023 17:10

Today we had to collect a case from the car park... as in open to everyone car park! (Not UK). That was a surprise... (just sports equipment, the normal cases were inside... but the equipment is often very expensive!!)
