Anyone on the delayed 10.35 flight from Inverness to Manchester today?

I am posting out of true desperation after what has been an extremely stressful few days.

Someone picked up my suitcase off the carousel and left their (identical make) one behind. The error was realised when I was the only one left standing and that was the only bag left circling. My suitcase is clearly marked with my name, so I’m presuming they were rushing due to the delays.

Baggage reclaim were semi helpful, but obviously little they can do as the bag had been removed and obviously taken out the airport. As in, it’s not technically “missing” and therefore out of their hands. They have explained that due to christmas etc etc, they are short staffed and even if it is returned, I may not get it back quickly as they have no responsibility for it’s loss.

Apart from the extremely expensive taxi I had sat on the meter waiting for me 🤦‍♀️ there is nothing in there of monetary value lost…

HOWEVER

The suitcase contained gifts for myself and my family, chosen and purchased at great effort by my very unwell father. I am heartbroken that it is gone. Normally I wouldn’t give a toss but was hoping to open them on christmas day and facetime him.

If anyone knows anyone that was on that flight, please could they check they haven’t got it? I will happily drive anywhere to pick it up.
I’m praying the power of the internet will maybe reunite us…
Thank you, and a very merry christmas to you all 🎅🏻

Samsung version of an AirTag. I would definitely put an AirTag in my luggage. I have a Tile on my house keys but I thought for Tiles to work you have to be in close proximity to it?

Thank you!

StillWantingADog · 23/12/2023 17:13

Great ! Do let us know how you sorted this. The original person you spoke to was lost unhelpful, as pp said they would have been able to easily access contact details of the other person

we have tags with phone numbers on our luggage to hopefully help in a similar scenario

Tremblingmadness · 23/12/2023 17:39

@feelingalittlehorse

please come back and tell us all how you found it !!

This happened to me years ago and I am still sad that my DS’s Cub Shield was lost in the process.

The airline won't tell her who and where - Data Protection.

No, but it was certainly within their capability to contact the other party on the OP's behalf. Very poor that they refused to do this.

In fairness, they might have actually done this in the end, despite refusing at first. That might be how she got her case back.

MiddleAgeAllTheRage · 23/12/2023 17:51

Lol look at everyone all invested as fuck.

Sad bastards.

Especially ME!!! Tell us!! 🤣

sebanna · 23/12/2023 17:51

When the person who took the wrong case started to unpack they would realise their error and probably be just as desperate to have their case back.

Doteycat · 23/12/2023 17:53

Happened to me a few weeks back. The airline rang the guy and said eh u took the wrong bag come back to airport pls.
And he did.
It's entirely possible to get it sorted with some common sense from the airline.

14Q · 23/12/2023 17:59

We use Apple AirTags, have our details hidden on a label and have ribbons or patterned straps around the luggage.

Glad the OP got her luggage back. Smile

MadeOfAllWork · 23/12/2023 18:01

Well the OP said that her details were on the bag that was taken so I’m guessing the person who took it got in touch.

NeedToChangeName · 23/12/2023 18:07

I have coloured ribbons on the handles of my bags, so they're less likely to be taken by accident

Ponderingwindow · 23/12/2023 18:10

I’m finding the airlines lack of support difficult to imagine. I’m glad that your bag is being returned. Their lack of response though really would have only left you with the sole option of reporting it stolen, which technically it was, even if it was an honest mistake.

I think that depends entirely on which airline it is. Happened to me twice, once with BA, couldn't have been more helpful, bag had been misdirected to Milan instead of London, they delivered it to me at home next day. Second time was Ryanair, they couldn't have cared less. Bag had not been loaded onto plane, they had no idea when the next flight would be and wouldn't check. I waited there for four hours until it appeared. Have never flown with them again.

In both cases it was actually the airline's fault rather than a mistake by another passenger so the lack of help from Ryanair was even more shocking. Airlines really do vary a lot.

AngelaRippingMyLegIntheAir · 23/12/2023 18:21

Another one with Apple Air Tags - they are so reassuring!

RandomQuestionOfTheDay · 23/12/2023 18:23

Good news OP.

I was thinking the other day, as I waited for my luggage, that if flying/airports were invented now you’d never have this system. There aren’t many areas in life now where you can have large numbers of people all operating on trust. So easy to steal luggage, particularly this time of year when it’s likely to have presents not just dirty laundry.

So happy for you! ❤️
