Best Christmas present ever

What has been your favourite gift you've ever received for Christmas?

I still remember the joy of receiving a pair of fur lined boots at aged 8, and a Timex watch the following year.

What's yours?

A dolls' pram.
A proper old fashioned one with a toddler seat on top.

My Walkman! Can’t remember my age but I was thrilled!

Madonna 'Like a Prayer' LP when I was about 11. It was all shiny and new and I thought the artwork on the front with the jeans and necklaces was so edgy and cool. It probably had all the song lyrics on the inner sleeve too but I can't remember... I bloody loved Madonna!

A Girls' World as a pre-teen, and a cassette player as a young teenager in 1978.

A Sindy dining room set. There was a table, chairs and tiny plates and wine glasses. I thought it was the most amazing present ever. I'm assuming I got a Sindy doll with it but I don't really remember the doll.

Also, leg warmers. They were all the rage because of Fame and I thought I'd never get a pair. I got some plain red ones as part of my Christmas clothes but I also got a pair as a present - they were navy and had snowflakes ❄️ on them. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Mine was also the Sindy dining set, it came with brass coloured knives and forks and blue velvet chairs.

A basket of fruit shaped and smelling soaps, with bath pearls that were meant to be the grapes.
I would have been 12/13 at the time and I've never ever forgotten it, can't even remember who it was from

Cuddly toy that was also a nightie case

Twin cassette player with radio. Used it for all my mix tapes and used to listen to Capital FM while I did my homework.

A ‘diamond’ ring when I was about 7. It probably cost no more than 2/6 (I’m very old!) but I can still remember my happiness when I opened it. Nothing I have received ever since has brought me such joy (including a real diamond ring many many years later!)

On Christmas Eve 2020 I got a covid vaccine (healthcare worker) - had to wait in the cold in a very long queue but I was ecstatic about it 😁

Probably my new born baby doll. Me and my best friend who lived across the road got one. We both called the Deirdre. Our Mams had put new born baby outfits in with them and e we spent that Christmas feeding, walking and changing them. My friend sadly died very young but we were the best Mammies to those dolls.

Ah that's lovely news @gotomomo. Congrats!

MaidOfSteel · 22/12/2023 17:37

A cassette player! It was late 70s, I think. I loved it. I would make up tapes from songs in the top 20, as it was then, by recording them off the radio on my dad's music centre, then play and rewind to my heart's content!

As a child toss up between spirograph, mini cadburys slot machine or a bike.

As an adult my son a Christmas baby.

evtheria · 22/12/2023 17:40

Sony Walkman

Fannyfiggs · 22/12/2023 17:41

I got a Fame outfit in 1981 or 82 I think. Sweatshirt, rara skirt, leg warmers and white leather trainer boots all with the fame logo on.

I thought I was the bee's knees wearing it 😂
