WWYD-Had neighbours parcel for 4 weeks

HalliwellManor · 19/12/2023 23:51

So,new build estate,we all moved in middle of this year, don't really know the neighbours apart from the lady right next door to me.Not long after we moved in,postman knocks my door and says can I take a parcel for one of the neighbours as they arent in? (the back of their house is at the side of my mine),I said yes,no problem.Few days later they came and collected it from me,no thankyou just took it and left.Few weeks later, same thing happens again.

4 weeks ago, same thing happens again, neighbour not in can I take 2 parcels for them again?.I was a bit pissed off as id been on a night shift and was woken by him knocking the door with these bloody parcels,I agreed and Postman says he will pop a note through their door as usual saying parcels are at mine for them to collect.
They still haven't collected them!,they're small (feels like an item of clothing or something) so not in my way or anything but I'm thinking why should I have to go and knock their door and say "here's your parcels"if they can't be arsed to come and collect them.
Am I being an arse?
I can't find a senders address as it looks like they were delivered somewhere else first (maybe their old address)and have been re-directed to their new one.
I just think why should I have to take it to them?,surely they should collect from me?
I won't be taking in any more parcels for them in the future either!
WWYD?

We just drop them off in the evening, it's hardly much effort and writing out this post probably took longer than popping their parcel back to them will. They may have missed the slip or not had one put through the door - no point making it some huge principled thing.

MaggieFS · 20/12/2023 00:05

Drop them round. And then explain to the postman that you works nights and can't take any more parcels for them.

Once you've said yes, you'll be the go-to person unless you say otherwise.

FloofyKat · 20/12/2023 00:06

Take the parcels round to the neighbour. Next time the postman asks you if you can take a delivery for them, just say no!

fluffiphlox · 20/12/2023 00:08

Take them round?

Downtoyou · 20/12/2023 00:08

I would have dropped them off 4 weeks ago

Mirrormeback · 20/12/2023 00:08

When this kept happening to me I told the delivery person to take my name off that neighbours list of contacts to leave parcels with

Never had one again from those CF

I'm happy to have them from all other neighbours as it's once in a blue moon not every other effing day like the CF who knew they wouldn't be in and just clearly added my name

Mirrormeback · 20/12/2023 00:10

You have to specify with each delivery service ie Amazon, Evri whatever

That you want your name off that neighbours list

Then hand them back the parcel so they know you're deadly serious

ChateauDuMont · 20/12/2023 00:11

Stop accepting parcels. After they didn't say thank you the first time why did you accept any more?

Tell your neighbour you won't be accepting any more parcels.

I would imagine they didn't get the note from the postman and have claimed from the retailer for this parcel you've had doe four weeks so personally I would return to sender.

purpleme12 · 20/12/2023 00:11

Personally I think you're being unreasonable. They can't live far away so it's hardly much trouble going round there.

I wouldn't bank on the postman having definitely put a note through. I know he said it but well it's possible he didn't and they don't know you've got their parcel

BelindaOkra · 20/12/2023 00:12

They probably didn’t get a slip. Just take them round.

purpleme12 · 20/12/2023 00:12

Happened to me that postman not put note through and neighbour's had it

It's very unreasonable because these neighbours are taking the piss

The only reason the parcel is being left with OP is because the CF have given their name as a person to leave parcels with

SutWytTi · 20/12/2023 00:13

Take them round.
Say no next time.

KenAdams · 20/12/2023 00:16

Sometimes they don't put a note through. Just take it round.

Hols24 · 20/12/2023 00:17

I take in neighbours' parcels, they take in mine. Sometimes I collect, sometimes I deliver. Not a big deal to me. If you work nights though, maybe put a note out saying do not disturb?

This^
I took a parcel for my neighbor recently, 4 days snd she didn’t come so I knocked on her door on the way to the shop. She was genuinely surprised to hear that the parcel at mine. She said that there was no note and she assumed it was lost somewhere, was waiting for tomorrow (Monday) to call the company. Believe me her reaction was genuine. It’s very busy period at the moment and your postman probably skipped putting a note.

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 20/12/2023 00:20

Jeezo take the parcel round. 😳

If you don't want to accept them just say no

MajesticWhine · 20/12/2023 00:20

I would take them round. It takes all of 5 minutes. It's just decent behaviour; they might not have got the delivery card.

Kimmeridge · 20/12/2023 00:22

Not necessarily. I've had parcels left with neighbours when I've been out. I've never given any of their names as someone to go to. I expect the delivery driver would rather leave it with a neighbour than have to redeliver

I bet the postman hasn't put a card through their door. I cant believe you've kept it 4 weeks without contacting them. They've probably been chasing up the seller about non delivery.

Ffs go & just drop them off - even of ot does make you look weird having hung onto them for so long

crumblingschools · 20/12/2023 00:25

I think our local postie leaves parcels at houses where they can see someone is in, or tries houses where there is a car in the drive. Our parcels are left with a variety of neighbours if we are not in and the parcels either haven’t been left by the front door or lobbed over the fence!

MandyMotherOfBrian · 20/12/2023 00:27

This is definitely a joke post right? So, lots of times the courier/postie doesn’t actually leave a note at the original address so they won’t know that the parcel has been delivered elsewhere. But, but, even if they had, who the fuck keeps a parcel FOR FOUR WEEKS without at least popping round before they turn to the internet for advice/affirmation? Hmmm? Hmmmmmmm? What the fuck are going to do if anything serious ever happens in your life? Sheesh.

rainbowlou · 20/12/2023 00:41

Just take it round ffs, how petty.

WhichOneGoes · 20/12/2023 01:12

The positive might not of put a card through their door. Take the parcel round, it's not like it's much of an effort 🫤

Then don't take in any more parcels. 📦

WhichOneGoes · 20/12/2023 01:12

*postie

NoTouch · 20/12/2023 01:13

They obviously didnt get a slip.

You need to take it round but you also are going to have to come up with a good excuse why you held onto their parcels for so long!
