WWYD-Had neighbours parcel for 4 weeks

So,new build estate,we all moved in middle of this year, don't really know the neighbours apart from the lady right next door to me.Not long after we moved in,postman knocks my door and says can I take a parcel for one of the neighbours as they arent in? (the back of their house is at the side of my mine),I said yes,no problem.Few days later they came and collected it from me,no thankyou just took it and left.Few weeks later, same thing happens again.

4 weeks ago, same thing happens again, neighbour not in can I take 2 parcels for them again?.I was a bit pissed off as id been on a night shift and was woken by him knocking the door with these bloody parcels,I agreed and Postman says he will pop a note through their door as usual saying parcels are at mine for them to collect.
They still haven't collected them!,they're small (feels like an item of clothing or something) so not in my way or anything but I'm thinking why should I have to go and knock their door and say "here's your parcels"if they can't be arsed to come and collect them.
Am I being an arse?
I can't find a senders address as it looks like they were delivered somewhere else first (maybe their old address)and have been re-directed to their new one.
I just think why should I have to take it to them?,surely they should collect from me?
I won't be taking in any more parcels for them in the future either!
WWYD?

Put them on the doorstep. Like Amazon does.

Psychoticbreak · 20/12/2023 03:31

Throw it over the wall as it is at your side and then refuse to take in anything again.

This is definitely a joke post right? So, lots of times the courier/postie doesn’t actually leave a note at the original address so they won’t know that the parcel has been delivered elsewhere. But, but, even if they had, who the fuck keeps a parcel FOR FOUR WEEKS without at least popping round before they turn to the internet for advice/affirmation? Hmmm? Hmmmmmmm? What the fuck are going to do if anything serious ever happens in your life? Sheesh.

No,it's not a joke post,I've better things to do with my time than write joke posts.
Not quite sure why you're getting your knickers in such a twist anyway?,were you expecting a delivery 4 weeks and haven't recieved it ago by any chance?
As for your bitchy comment about how will I cope if anything serious ever happens in my life?,plenty has believe me,but I'd say the most serious was sitting in a hospital room with my 18year old son being told he has cancer, and subsequently passing away from it 3 years later. Is that serious enough for you?
Sheesh...

Thankyou to everyone else who commented,I shall drop it round this morning and leave it on their doorstep and as I say in my OP,definetly not accepting any more parcels!!

Are people aware you don’t often get a note to say where the delivery driver had left it?

SallyWD · 20/12/2023 06:42

Downtoyou · 20/12/2023 00:08

I would have dropped them off 4 weeks ago

Me too. I'm surprised you didn't do this.

Spidey66 · 20/12/2023 06:48

I'm not on anyones list AFAIK but occasionally get parcels left. I just drop them off. Takes all of 2 minutes. It's never occurred of me not to.🙄

Mirrormeback · 20/12/2023 00:13

It's very unreasonable because these neighbours are taking the piss

The only reason the parcel is being left with OP is because the CF have given their name as a person to leave parcels with

Not true. In my street, we’re all happy to take in parcels for near neighbours - we don’t have ‘lists’ with delivery companies or Royal Mail.

bananablues · 20/12/2023 06:52

Take it round early one morning, place at their door, & press buzzer loudly and walk off. Maybe they will make more of an effort to be around when their parcels arrive.

crumblingschools · 20/12/2023 06:53

Put a note on your door that you don’t accept parcels for neighbours

kimchio · 20/12/2023 06:53

Just knock on their door and say HI! I have a lovely relationship with another house as our parcels are regularly messed up.

Anyone who works outside their house probably isn't in when their parcels arrive! They are also rubbish at letting you reschedule now.

Jifmicroliquid · 20/12/2023 07:01

Why on earth wouldn’t you just drop them round to your neighbours house?

ProfYaffle · 20/12/2023 07:04

I was surprised when our neighbours knocked with a parcel as I didn't know it had been left there. Turns out the postman had left a note for us but not put it through the letterbox properly. I found it sodden in the garden a few days later.

These things happen.

Wanttobeok · 20/12/2023 07:10

How mean to wait 4 weeks! It's probably someone's Christmas present. Just take it round

user1492757084 · 20/12/2023 07:16

Drop them off and while doing so explain that you won't be able to accept their parcels anymore sothey should invest in a large locked drop box mail box.

ScottBakula · 20/12/2023 07:21

@HalliwellManor , I think you are getting a bit of a hard time on here.
I think the onus is always on the parcels owner to collect it rather than yours to redeliver it.
However as it has been so long I'd say pp may be right they may not of got / seen the card so you should take it round.
I would use the opportunity to tell the CFer to stop using your address as a drop off point .

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 20/12/2023 07:24

Thank goodness for my neighbours, we happily take in each other’s deliveries. I really don’t understand why it seems such a bother (and yes, I used to work nights and get woken up by the postman ringing the bell occasionally , no big deal 🤷🏼‍♀️

Seren2023 · 20/12/2023 07:24

I would be annoyed at someone not saying thank you, op too but would just take it round and see if they are a bit more polite this time. If no thanks again this time for taking parcel in (even if you did hold onto it for 4 weeks! 🤣) refuse any more.

Mountaindhew · 20/12/2023 07:28

You've given these parcels head space on and off for 4 weeks. That is more than enough reason to drop them round this morning.

As pp have said don't take in any more and move on.

bananablues · 20/12/2023 07:33

kimchio · 20/12/2023 06:54

Do it early before they go to work - no point otherwise. Walk off seeing as they have not bothered saying thank you.

YireosDodeAver · 20/12/2023 07:38

The number of idiots on this thread is astonishing.

Before we started refusing all neighbours parcels, we found "drop them round" is really not easy and requires multiple excursions because you don't know if they are in till you go and knock. It can take weeks of disrupted leisure time before you are lucky enough to knock when they are home. It's an unreasonable burden and OP is quite right to feel she shouldn't have to.

Simplelobsterhat · 20/12/2023 07:40

In my experience drivers often don't bother putting a note through anymore, or if they do it's indecipherable about where the parcel actually is! Out street WhatsApp is full of people asking if anyone has their parcel and the people who have it had assumed they would know. I suspect the parcel has been reported as missing if it's something they ordered after 4 weeks! Obviously they don't know it's with you if they've left it this long. I really doubt it's their fault.

Drop it round and next time refuse to take in because it's getting too often now.

The OP wouldn’t be unreasonable to stop taking in parcels but really “multiple excursions” & “weeks of disrupted leisure time” 🙄😆. Fair enough you may live in a grand estate & have to trek to your neighbours but most people just look through their window & see a light on or a car & deduce that someone is home. I took a parcel in at noon yesterday, at 6pm neighbours lights were on & I dropped it over, took me 5mins.

underneaththeash · 20/12/2023 07:49

Just put it outside their door.
