I saw my postie today after not seeing one for weeks and asked whats been happening with the mail recently. He took out his ear phones and wouldn't stop talking.

He said that its chaos at the depot, they are being giving thousand of letter to post and when you complain they say ai don't care what you do with them, dont bring them back.

They are also being told to prioritize parcels and that letters aren't important. People are quiting or going off sick so the RM are having to hire agency workers who are dumping letters in bushes and quiting within days.

I haven't had post in over 3 week. I have only noticed as I'm waiting to recieve 2 v.important letters that were sent 3 and 2 weeks ago. So who knows how long its been going on.

I have phoned the help line and been told that 50% off the staff in my local depot are either sick or absent and that they have shut down certain postcodes to deliveries. They said after the complaint I will recieve post within 72hr. It never happened and I've had to complain again.

If you search online you will see I'm not the only one. It seems to be happening nationwide in cities and rural areas. The issue is that RM are denying that there is an issue.

They are suppose to deliver post to every postcode Monday to Saturday and now I've been told that they are closing down certain postcodes over the phone but then denying it on social media.

I still didn't get my mail today so I'm starting to wonder if I'm one if the people whobhave had their letters dumped.

also went to pick up a parcel and noticed the opening hours are reduced to 8am - 10am. who can get there at that time during the week? I didnt understand as it is normally open all day! Now i know why, not good at all.

Tiftly · 19/12/2023 18:48

Royal Mail is an absolute shambles. I live in an area that hasn't had regular post for well over a year. We typically get it once every 3-4 weeks - usually after everyone on the road submits a complaint. I will always try and avoid ordering things sent by RM if I can.

Princessfluffy · 19/12/2023 18:50

As for many lower paid jobs they should improve pay and conditions for staff.

Scarletttulips · 19/12/2023 17:53

What would you like them to do?

They don’t have the staff to deliver the post.

They can’t pull postmen out of their arses.

A recruitment drive perhaps?
Or would that be too obvious 🤔

Callipygion · 19/12/2023 18:55

Round our way (village) our posties have had all their rounds rejigged (made larger) and there’s less of them. We also never seem to get post on a Monday and that’s been happening for a few years.

kimchio · 19/12/2023 18:58

My postie is awesome

SabrinaThwaite · 19/12/2023 18:59

Our post delivery service has been awful since the beginning of Covid - once or twice a week if we’re lucky. Our posties are great but they’ve had their rounds reorganised and whilst they might have lost a handful of addresses to deliver to they’ve been given hundreds more in addition. They just can’t physically do the whole round every day.

bloomtoperish · 19/12/2023 19:00

I sent a card in the post yesterday 2nd class and it arrived today, I was very surprised

Kannet111 · 19/12/2023 19:02

My recent experience in the post office

  1. can I send this large letter - no sorry it's going to Ireland you need to go to a central post office! 2- ok then can I pay this cheque in -no sorry we aren't trained you need to go the central post office

3- well can I buy four first class stamps - no sorry we only have books of 12

Wasted journey!!!

LlynTegid · 19/12/2023 19:04

The NHS probably sent enough letters that a courier service to deliver them once a week to all those in the area would be a reasonable cost option to use. Certainly in most medium to large towns.

I'm sure some of their recruitment issues could be reduced if they offered shifts at other than early morning start times.

I have noticed over the last few months that I only get post on Tuesday and Friday. It took me a while to realise this,so I started monitoring it, thinking it was just a coincidence, but sure enough,it was only Tuesday and Friday that mail arrived. And its alway quite a few items each time, like it's been saved up! Very odd.

We are having the same experience except it's usually Monday and Thursday (if we're lucky enough to get 2 in a week)

It's tough for your average postie because they get the flack on the ground but honestly the Royal Mail is dreadful now. When I was a little girl (many years ago!) the post nearly always arrived daily while we were having our breakfast. Now it's an utter shambles, the price of a stamp seems to sky rocket everytime I buy one and there's no point sending first class as they don't seem to differentiate so just use second class all the time now. Half the time, we are not sure if they're on strike or not.

I feel sorry for the front line staff but the management is absolutely beyond appalling. If I had a choice to send letters any other way I would. I've already moved to DPD for parcels

I've thought for a long time that unofficially our post is being delivered on specific days only. There are days when DH and I never get any post then other days when we get lots of post in a big bundle.

I've thought the same for a while now. My day seems to be Thursday.

Recently postie must've been fed up, as he dumped everyone's post at one house & that neighbour went round giving it to the right people.

Flavabobble · 19/12/2023 19:14

So who knows how long its been going on.
At least the last two and a half years. Cos that's when I left and it was happening then.
Parcels being prioritised, certain postcodes being limited.
Working there was like taking a trip back to the 70s, the tech is probably circa 1998. Lots of favouritism and if you hadn't worked there long you weren't allowed to park in the carpark - you could if you'd worked there for years though🤔

Threewheeler1 · 19/12/2023 19:16

I received a second class package today that was posted on 21/8.
Nuts.
Had given up (forgotten) about it and was confused when I opened it.
It's chaos.
Be quicker to get deliveries from a 3 legged blind donkey.

hellsBells246 · 19/12/2023 19:19

Royal mail has been shit since Covid. We get one delivery a week at the mo. And our postie has said the same about chaos and people off sick and overwork. Something needs to change.

Blobblobblob · 19/12/2023 19:20

The evri partnership is with Post Office Ltd and applies only to items posted at post office counters. Royal Mail is a legally separate entity since 2010

Riverstep · 19/12/2023 19:26

Post is daily here, except Sundays. Must depend on where you live.

fetchacloth · 19/12/2023 19:28

What would you like them to do?

They don’t have the staff to deliver the post.

They can’t pull postmen out of their arses.

Well, they could get their act together for a start.
They're paid to do a job and they just aren't doing it properly.
I'm not actually waiting for anything important to arrive at this time, but if I was, I would be formally complaining to Ofcom.
If everyone affected by this shit show complained to Ofcom they would be forced to do something about it.😡

Southwest12 · 19/12/2023 19:31

My dad is only getting post once a week now. The post used to be sorted for the village in the local post office but now it's done at the main sorting office two towns over (actually in another county) and they only come to deliver when they can be bothered/have enough staff to spare. It's not a small village either.

I'm in a big city and it seems to be okay, although the dogs medication hasn't arrived yet and it's been a week since they did the script.

ItsAStupidQuestion · 19/12/2023 19:32

My partner is a postman and when his office queried about the amount of cards/letters that were not being sent out, they were told to "fuck the letters" by their managers.

Royal Mail has been a shit place to work since it was privatised. Power hungry managers, ridiculous demands on workers hours, overtime been refused to be paid date it's already taken place, trying to force people to sign new contract with lower standards of conditions.

Agency/new staff start every single day and many of them only last 1/2 days as the managers treat them like shit or they realise how crap the job is.

Then you get Royal Mail advertising extra services all over FB and Twitter with the comment turned off as they know what the comments would be. The basic services are not happening, let alone all the extra shit they say they can do.

goingtotown · 19/12/2023 19:33

Letter today dated 8th December cancelled
my hospital appointment for tomorrow. I never received the original letter.

Sorry for all the typos, I'm trying to type before my phone dies.

Skimm · 19/12/2023 19:37

You know what, I'm going to email my MP about it. I'm going to go into debt waiting for one of these letters.

Maybe it is a regional thing.

Our post is here most mornings around 11am-ish, dh is self employed so gets mail most days, never had any problems (West Coast Scotland).

DeathrowMarriage · 19/12/2023 19:40

Yet another example of why privatisation is shit.
