A huge Royal Mail exposè is coming...

I saw my postie today after not seeing one for weeks and asked whats been happening with the mail recently. He took out his ear phones and wouldn't stop talking.

He said that its chaos at the depot, they are being giving thousand of letter to post and when you complain they say ai don't care what you do with them, dont bring them back.

They are also being told to prioritize parcels and that letters aren't important. People are quiting or going off sick so the RM are having to hire agency workers who are dumping letters in bushes and quiting within days.

I haven't had post in over 3 week. I have only noticed as I'm waiting to recieve 2 v.important letters that were sent 3 and 2 weeks ago. So who knows how long its been going on.

I have phoned the help line and been told that 50% off the staff in my local depot are either sick or absent and that they have shut down certain postcodes to deliveries. They said after the complaint I will recieve post within 72hr. It never happened and I've had to complain again.

If you search online you will see I'm not the only one. It seems to be happening nationwide in cities and rural areas. The issue is that RM are denying that there is an issue.

They are suppose to deliver post to every postcode Monday to Saturday and now I've been told that they are closing down certain postcodes over the phone but then denying it on social media.

I still didn't get my mail today so I'm starting to wonder if I'm one if the people whobhave had their letters dumped.

Our Evri person is brilliant, they're the most reliable delivery service by far here.

Said no-one ever. 🙄

Christmasbrie · 19/12/2023 21:57

I don't think anything will be exposed as we can all tell its gone to shite! Not the staffs fault but I'd rather use Evri and that's saying something as they're bloody awful.

Scarletttulips · 19/12/2023 17:53

What would you like them to do?

They don’t have the staff to deliver the post.

They can’t pull postmen out of their arses.

Maybe if the staff were treated in a respectful way and paid a decent wage the problem wouldn’t exist …just a thought!!

Imagwine · 19/12/2023 21:58

We had a huge bundle yesterday with a parcel and nothing before or after.

A friends ds worked there last winter. Said it was carnage.

Dahliasrule · 19/12/2023 21:58

Some posters are suggesting hiring extra staff. I remember as a student, DH and I always worked for the RM at Christmas time. Perhaps that would have been an answer. Cheaper than agency staff.

RJ2023 · 19/12/2023 21:58

My RM letters are delivered - at best - once a week and are always wrapped within a huge amount of junk mail when they eventually arrive :(

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/12/2023 21:58

MissMarplesNiece · 19/12/2023 18:04

I've thought for a long time that unofficially our post is being delivered on specific days only. There are days when DH and I never get any post then other days when we get lots of post in a big bundle.

That was happening with our post. We've now got our old postman back on the round and we now get post at the same time every day. And he knows how to shut the gate!

Said no-one ever. 🙄

My Evri guy is name Matthew and he’s bloody fabulous. He is also extremely reliable, if not usually frazzled.
Not all Evri couriers are bad.

fetchacloth · 19/12/2023 19:28

Well, they could get their act together for a start.
They're paid to do a job and they just aren't doing it properly.
I'm not actually waiting for anything important to arrive at this time, but if I was, I would be formally complaining to Ofcom.
If everyone affected by this shit show complained to Ofcom they would be forced to do something about it.😡

No, Ofcom would fine them and nothing would improve.

Royal Mail needs to be renationalised.

TheFormidableMrsC · 19/12/2023 22:00

Well I say it too. We have a fantastic Evri delivery chap who goes above and beyond. Appreciate we are lucky that he cares about the community he serves too.

festivetinseling · 19/12/2023 18:29

We've been getting post every day. Maybe our regional office has a better handle on things. The local posties are great.

Yes, in Herts and have had no issues at all.

RiverCartwright · 19/12/2023 22:01

penjil · 19/12/2023 21:53

Plus, you have to pretty much be a marine to do the job now.

Carrying 16kg bags around the streets for hours on end for nearly minimum wage. Who wants to do that?

It's physically tough, and you're doing it in all weathers.

All the old posties are retiring, leaving or off sick with physical ailments or stress.

New starters quit early on when they realise there are easier jobs out there.

The executive management is cutting corners and cutting costs and the job cannot now be done.

The shareholders matter, not the customers.

The company needs to be taken out of privatisation and re-nationalised.

Edited

They use little carts here to push around, rarely see one with a sack full of mail.

So is my Evri guy. He is my best courier.

What kills me us that some arse who 'stood up to the unions' and achieved sacking lots of people will have moved on to another job earning 3x what a ft postie works, leaving a trail of chaos behind.

Frankly if an organisation ever reaches the point of a strike they're already failing and the managers should be on a final warning until they come up with a solution that involves retaining experienced staff.

will have moved on to another job earning 30x what a ft postie works

Frankly if an organisation ever reaches the point of a strike they're already failing and the managers should be fired

FTFY.

Lovemusic82 · 19/12/2023 22:04

I had to look online today to see what was going on, I don’t read papers and haven’t seen much news.

I haven’t had any letter for a couple weeks and am waiting for an urgent hospital appointment, I’m worried that I may miss an appointment which will set my surgery back even further. I have tried contacting hospital but no one ever answers the phone (under staffed).

I think Royal Mail have had their day, I rarely use them because they have become more unreliable over the last year.

FourChimneys · 19/12/2023 22:05

Our regular postie is great but has not been seen for weeks. I heard a rumour that he is off with stress.

Instead we have a lad who looks about 14 and is utterly hopeless. Fortunately I live in a friendly and helpful road so we sort out wrongly delivered post between ourselves. He only comes about once a week, seems to struggle with the difference between 6 and 8, and does not seem to care that he is useless.

Chocolatepeanutbuttercupsandicecream · 19/12/2023 22:07

And this is also why the NHS needs to stop using Royal Mail for important patient communications. I’d like to see the stats for appointments missed due to letters arriving too late not arriving at all.

healthadvice123 · 19/12/2023 22:08

Been like that a while here post once a week , no staff at our local office. Letters don’t make them as much money as parcels its seems. My ds got a postie job couple years ago now and was awful then. He was given a round that 2 people used to do and others told him it was inpossibke to complete. He also never started until 8ish and worked until 6ish and he chose a postie as thought early start early finish especially on sat as he does team sport byt they changed the hours from hiring him. Also he applied probably 3 before had interview a month later and month later offered the job it was a real mess. He lasted 3 weeks and then left to work in a warehouse , said loads were leaving many who had been there years.

Oh no, not EvriShock

Agreed. Tonight got emails from EVRI saying they couldn't deliver my parcels as no safe place to leave them, so would try again FRIDAY! I'm sat right here on my couch, 10 feet from the front door. They never tried to deliver. And no ability to respond to their emails or complain. Infuriating.

healthadvice123 · 19/12/2023 22:10

@Chocolatepeanutbuttercupsandicecream yes need to use something like email or account you can login to check. I don’t work in nhs but send letters out to customers and we have been emailing as well as posting just lately

And they scrapped post bikes, so the postie now walks carrying that lot or pushes a little trolley, slowing him or her down.

wronginalltherightways · 19/12/2023 22:11

The royal mail not admitting it's going under is very worrying. I sent off an NHS testing kit and am now worried it isn't going where it needs to to be tested properly!

RiverCartwright · 19/12/2023 22:14

Speaking of NHS letters, DH had a really snotty phone call from our GP receptionist asking why he’d not turned up to a hospital referral.

Didn’t understand at all as he’d been given a letter for a private referral, but for some reason the GP had also done an NHS referral and we never had the letter.

She was at least slightly apologetic.

Walkaround · 19/12/2023 22:16

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 19/12/2023 21:55

The Post Office are not the same company as Royal Mail.

And from that point of separation onwards, the only way was down…

howandwhyyy · 19/12/2023 22:16

Also, posting and receiving letter has gone waaaay down in recent years. So they can't say high demand.

Every bill used to be posted instead of being online, there is less post in circulation now so it shouldn't be coming to this.

I remember my house post every day when I was younger and I'm pretty sure they used to do twice a day deliveries at one point.

Theres a thread on here titled something like is it me or is everything turning to shit.

The Royal Mail is very clear example of a service that used to be great but inexplicably has become utterly shit.

I say inexplicably because it used to work fine and now there is actually less mail so even if they deliver more parcels there are fewer envelopes so they should be able to manage it.

@Skimm Yes you were right that there used to be a second post every day except Saturday where there was one post and Sunday none at all.

The post used to be so reliable in the early 1900s, that I've seen postcards sent that say things like 'I will come to see you at 4pm tomorrow afternoon' knowing it would arrive first post.

It is a very clear and sad example of the slow but sure sinking of everything that was good about this country into the pits.

Who is responsible for breaking it all? Its not just one political party or another. There are NHS managers, Royal Mail managers and executives, councils who insist on Low Traffic Networks and making every parking place a different parking app instead of a machine where fraudsters have slapped dodgy QR codes on the machine.

Just every where you turn is a public service or facility that used to work, but is now absolutely shite

It is so depressing
