I saw my postie today after not seeing one for weeks and asked whats been happening with the mail recently. He took out his ear phones and wouldn't stop talking.

He said that its chaos at the depot, they are being giving thousand of letter to post and when you complain they say ai don't care what you do with them, dont bring them back.

They are also being told to prioritize parcels and that letters aren't important. People are quiting or going off sick so the RM are having to hire agency workers who are dumping letters in bushes and quiting within days.

I haven't had post in over 3 week. I have only noticed as I'm waiting to recieve 2 v.important letters that were sent 3 and 2 weeks ago. So who knows how long its been going on.

I have phoned the help line and been told that 50% off the staff in my local depot are either sick or absent and that they have shut down certain postcodes to deliveries. They said after the complaint I will recieve post within 72hr. It never happened and I've had to complain again.

If you search online you will see I'm not the only one. It seems to be happening nationwide in cities and rural areas. The issue is that RM are denying that there is an issue.

They are suppose to deliver post to every postcode Monday to Saturday and now I've been told that they are closing down certain postcodes over the phone but then denying it on social media.

I still didn't get my mail today so I'm starting to wonder if I'm one if the people whobhave had their letters dumped.

Sounds as if they haven't hired enough staff and expect the staff they have to wizz about doing the work of 3 people. My OH said he saw a post woman moving about really fast delivering post but her two male colleagues were just dawdling. . I bet she did all the work .

Also, posting and receiving letter has gone waaaay down in recent years. So they can't say high demand.

Every bill used to be posted instead of being online, there is less post in circulation now so it shouldn't be coming to this.

I remember my house post every day when I was younger and I'm pretty sure they used to do twice a day deliveries at one point.

Yes they did . Second post

I think Royal Mail are doing a pretty good service.
I have a small business and post around 250 items a month.
In the past 6 weeks or so ( my busiest time) I have had only 2 or 3 items lost in the post out of 500 packages.

I have a friend who I've known for years. He is a retired postie. He has witnessed the job getting harder and harder over the years, even before the sell off. He now also has a crumbling disc in his back, probably from his job.

Way back in the v early 1970s I had a Christmas postie job. There were still reports back then of temp staff dumping letters - or reposting them if there was any room in a postbox! Back then, of course, practically everyone sent loads of Christmas cards, and the postboxes were absolutely rammed as Christmas approached.

Could they not take letters back if they did not have time to post them ? Now and then you hear of post workers hoarding post in their houses. Is it a disciplinary offence to take letters back to the depot ?

I get all my hosptial appointments by text and on my NHS app.

House sale contracts can be sent by the RM guaranteed tracked delivery services.

I neither have nor want the NHS app. I opted out of summary care records too.

I trust a computer to be secure about as much as I trust a politician to be honest.

They made loads of staff redundant a year or so ago, then tried to rehire them as contract workers. Unsurprisingly, a lot of the posties told them to where to go and they lost a lot of hard working, dedicated staff because they tried to stiff them.

This! Some off them have won their claim for unfair dismissal and been offered their jobs back and mostly told Royal Mail where to stick 'em!

That's good to hear that Royal Mail are providing a good service for your business @speakout . However is it parcels or letters you are sending? That's what the issue is here. Royal Mail are prioritising parcels and letters are being left behind because they are deemed not important. Unfortunately, my small business relies mostly on letters and large letters so I've had a lot of complaints and had to issue countless refunds because my items are personalised time sensitive items. As @PurpleWisteria1 has stated there is literally no alternative provider we can use to send these small items.

speakout · 27/12/2023 11:03

Morecushionsplease I post large letters and parcels, 60% of my items are large letter format.
Of the 3 that have gone missing in the last 500 items I have posted all were parcels.

Quite honestly I am just fed up of UK companies taking money and refusing to provide a service at all or only very badly. Royal Mail is just another example.

They, and many other, need to pull their socks up and stop whining.

In east London I’ve been impressed lately. Post every morning. Letters from the bank prompt for a new account, pay check prompt. Pleasant guy delivering stuff. Not been this good in ages, and no issues with Christmas cards
