OMG @ImTheGoat literally take it somewhere else. It's just bloody rude to derail this thread in this way. 😡

Right back at you @catvstree! I've just responded to one of many, many goady posts on this subject (as have you I might point out), so you have no right to single me out in that way.

CruCru · 21/12/2023 10:47

I get a bit cross when someone writes “Are you getting help with your anxiety, OP?!?” There is help for people who are a danger to themselves and others but not much for anyone who is a bit anxious.

I also get cross when someone has applied for several famous schools for their child and then, when they get in to all of them, come on here to ask which one they should choose. The process for getting into Eton, Winchester, St Paul’s, Westminster is quite involved - how is it possible to get to the end and have absolutely no preference?

MackEndSea · 21/12/2023 10:57

This thread has been totally ruined by this derail. It would have been an interesting read but I can’t be arsed filtering through so many posts banging on about this

See I thought snapped and farted was hilarious but penis beaker just a bit grim. I agree on the chapel one. Cringe. Sick of seeing Mexican house thief pop up on every bloody thread.

Same. I don't think it was true, either.

I think MNHQ should delete all the derailing posts.

Afternoon everyone. We can see that this thread has gone a little off topic and become very focused on one issue. While that's an important conversation, too, it is rather detracting from the OP's original post now.

Could we draw a line under that for now and get back to the original post? We're absolutely happy for another thread to be started about this elsewhere on the boards. It's certainly a topic that merits discussion. Thanks, all! Flowers

Unfortunately the thread is still getting derailed. Are you able to do a little clean-up, please?

Notimeforidiots69 · 21/12/2023 11:13

I've never worn anything in bed for years! I'm past period days now, but that was the only time I wore knickers!

To be fair, it had already been derailed (albeit often humorously) with lots of talk on the specifics of American cheese - but nobody seemed to cavil about that.

No I totally agree, the cheese thing is also really derailing. I hate it when, on these threads that should flow nicely with a variety of topics, 3 of 4 posters get completely stuck on one subject. Totally spoils it.

I’m still a bit shocked that people don’t wear knickers in bed!

Why would that shock you? Unless you're being ironic...

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 21/12/2023 11:57

Thanks for doing that, ImTheGoat - will pop along to the new thread soon.

Yes, I have executive function disorder and when I reached out for CBT help a few years ago because I was struggling I was straight up told if your not self harming or suicidal we don't care, come back if you get to that point.

The post where a woman said she traipsed upstairs with a bucket of used washing up water to throw down the toilet once a day instead of flushing 'to save water'.

A recent one where I learned that black people always moisturise their whole body daily after showering. That has still blown my mind.

On the first one: I think we will all be doing something like that in future. At least we won't be flushing with clean water, maybe we'll have grey water systems.

On the second point, I'm white and use body lotion after every shower. Anyone with dry skin should do that.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/12/2023 12:41

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 20/12/2023 18:18

@HarryOHayandBettyOBarley I’m so white I’m virtually pale blue and I moisturise all over daily!! I didn’t think that was unusual at all.

It's not, but I realise a lot of MNers don't do because quite a few say things like body lotions are crap presents.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/12/2023 12:42

HarryOHayandBettyOBarley · 20/12/2023 18:21

It is unusual for white skin. There was a thread recently about it. Eye opening. It will come up if you search for it.

It's really not that unusual. In a country where about 85% are white, who do you think is buying the body lotions, creams, butters, oils, etc.?

Boomboom22 · 21/12/2023 12:42

Surely moisturising daily would actually dry out your skin? It's a marketing ploy not a necessary product.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/12/2023 12:46

AnnieSnap · 20/12/2023 18:45

Most adults in the UK drive. It tends to be people in London who don’t. It’s a very busy city, with an excellent public transport system and often gridlocked traffic, so some people reasonably see no point in learning to drive. Other than that, it’s unusual for a Brit to not be able to drive.

London's not the only city in the UK!

People buy them as gifts that are then sent to charity shops. I always seem to have some unopened moisturisers but I’ve rarely bought them. . A friend of mine is a nurse and i pass them on to her to use as hand cream.

Similarly to candles really.

I presume people buy them for the elderly and babies.

To be fair though it is the only UK city where public transport runs 24/7 to every inch of it with only a 1-2 minute wait between tubes and buses. There is no need for a car in London (although I do have one) and it’s nearly always quicker and cheaper to get public transport.

StBrides · 21/12/2023 12:54

I was mildly shocked to read that someone thinks the only white people who use moisturiser are the elderly or infants

Calypso89 · 21/12/2023 13:03

WhimsicalMoth · 20/12/2023 22:52

Why is it not okay?
What does age have to do with it ?
Why does having children affect what you do with a consensual partner in the privacy (hopefully) of their own home / bedroom ?

Consent is important but it isn't the ONLY thing that's important. The idea that all that matters is consent, and that consent makes everything permissible, is one of the most harmful lies of the sexual revolution.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 21/12/2023 13:05

One thread that really got to me was a disturbingly racist one recently, OP had just had baby twins and her MIL was passing comments on their skin tone, OP was black from the Caribbean I think. It started off along the lines of 'do you think I'm right to feel offended by this word', but went on and on and it was really shocking, the DH was awful. She tried to leave and he had ripped up her kids passports, then when her family came to the house he said something like 'black lives matter are here'. There were loads of other stuff too, really nasty racist stuff. It was so upsetting, but she left him and then posted that he was sorry and she was thinking of forgiving him. Not long after she signed off and said she was done with the thread, I had a horrible feeling she went back to him.

Another one that shocked was during the Summer it was about 'things your parents didn't believe in' and it was mostly very lighthearted and funny then some posters told stories about neglect in their childhood, I was genuinely shocked at some of the stuff that children grew up thinking was normal.
