We still have the fridge and freezer we got when we got married in 1992 and I still use the toasted sandwich maker I got when I went to University in 1984 on at least a weekly basis. The paint on the outer surface is a bit scratched but it still works absolutely fine.

I've a pair of 18 year old ghds.

louderthan · 13/12/2023 20:43

I got a Sony radio cassette player for my birthday in 1994. Still plays cassettes and is in daily use as the kitchen radio.

My DM still uses her DM's Kenwood mixer which she got as a wedding present in 1951, so over 70 years old.

You have reminded me ,we have my Mum’s Kenwood which she had when I was a child..must be about 50 years old 😊

My parents tumble drier has just celebrated turning 42yrs old. 😲

Wow ! It just proves that white goods now are not made to last.

My vibrator’s coming up to its 30th birthday. Plenty of use but still going strong.

Brilliant 🤩

The fridge in our garage is the fridge that my parents had built in when they had their kitchen refitted in 1989. I can't remember how long they had owned it by then but it wasn't new.

TheChristmasElfCanGoNow · 13/12/2023 20:55

My hairdryer, purchased in 1991.

muddyford · 13/12/2023 20:55

Friends had a fridge that was sixty years old in 1987.

20 year old computer here. It’s never been connected to the internet (I think my grandad, who bequeathed it to me, maybe pirated the OS so I wasn’t allowed to) but runs really well and quickly for all sorts of basic programs.

Also, a 41 year old bike. Hasn’t never broken but it’s AWESOME.

Coffeesnob11 · 13/12/2023 21:14

My hairdryer is 33 years old and still runs brilliantly. (I hope this doesn't end up as commentators curse!)

ChristmasDoDos · 13/12/2023 21:28

I suppose technically not an appliance, but I've got a singer sewing machine that was made in about 1939. I rewired it recently as the wired had perished, but I swear it would easily outlive me, they don't make them like that any more!

Fifthtimelucky · 13/12/2023 21:28

I bought a new freezer last year to replace one that my father bought in 1979. I can't remember when he gave it to me, but we definitely had it when we moved here in 1999.

I kept it in the garage and used it to supplement the main fridge freezer in the kitchen. It still worked but was very noisy and sounded as if it was on its last legs.

I don't turn it on these days, but it still lives in the garage and I use it to store food. It comes in very handy at Christmas!

Yearsyonder · 13/12/2023 21:54

My parents have a microwave that is 39, almost 40 years old. Used daily.

PauliesWalnuts · 13/12/2023 22:06

I love the thought of a fridge getting a birthday card from the manufacturer 😁

19 year old GHD’s here, along with a 21 year old Hairtools hairdryer. I have mad curly hair so both have seen a LOT of straightening. Motor starting to slow on the hairdryer, which may be demoted to the office cycle locker but it’s a workhorse.

viktoria · 13/12/2023 22:14

I have a 21 year old Porsche which is still going strong.

Sorry, meant to say a Porsche kettle

sunqueen97 · 13/12/2023 22:17

My mum has a 27 year old whisk

ClarasZoo · 13/12/2023 22:25

My parents’ oven is a 1960s Belling- they have had it 60 years and it’s still working!

ladygindiva · 13/12/2023 22:29

My parents had to replace their analogue TV for the big digital switch over a few years back and we realised it was about 26 years old.

Notthatcatagain · 13/12/2023 23:51

My sewing machine is nearly 50 years old. I bought a replacement for heavy duty stuff. Exactly the same but with a computer built in, it's not half as good as the old one

Sonolanona · 14/12/2023 00:01

My food mixer is coming up for 34 (wedding present)
My GHDs are 18 and in daily use.
My sewing machine ( a Janome) is 52 bought by my Mum when I was 4 and still has the receipt with it!

My Mum's ironing board is the family joke... bought in 1967, outlasted my Dad, and she swears she wants to be laid out on it in her coffin one day!

Sonolanona · 14/12/2023 00:02

Oh and my car is 20!

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 14/12/2023 00:17

My DH brought his washing machine from his first house in the 90s to our marriage. It was a cheap Candy one and was finally replaced last year. The replacement only lasted two washes!

The washing machine was a youngster compared to my Dad's hoover. It was given to him by a neighbour when he moved into his first flat. They were binning it and he asked if he could have it if he could fix it. It was still running when he gave it to my younger sister when she moved out of home. We spotted it on the 1950s float at the Queen's Golden Jubilee. It was almost 60 years old when it was retired due to difficulties getting bags and filters but it was still working better than a brand new Dyson!

Oh yes my bike is older than me, and my Mum has a house plant older than me. I am mid forties

I’ve a clock radio that has been by my bed since 1999. 24 years! I’m now convinced it’s going to stop working tomorrow morning and we’re going to be late for school 😱
