My Braun epilator. I bought it on Black Friday 13 years ago. I really want to upgrade as I’m sure the newer models are much better but I can’t bring myself to get rid of it while it still works!

Mine is about 25 years old. My sister gave it to me because she didn't get on with it

augustusglupe · 14/12/2023 12:24

Magimix. Bought in 1986 and it's still going strong.

TurquoiseSeasAndSilverSand · 14/12/2023 12:26

My microwave (Panasonic) is 25yrs old. My fridge(Liebherr) is 19yrs and previous washer (Siemens) was 19yrs old. Vacuum cleaner is ancient (Miele), it wasn't new to us and I must have had it 18yrs.

My Mum has a hairdryer which she bought when I was 10ish, that would make it 44yrs old! It's an orange Moulinex - from the days when we pronounced the x - "Moulinex makes things simple and that includes the price" 🎶 😆

I had DH's grandma's Kenwood Chef. We reckon she got it in about 1970, she used, mil got it after she died, gave it to me when she retired (got a new one from work when she retired). I overworked for a few more years, until the motor burst into flames kneading bread in 2009.

Our Brabantia rotary washing line is 21 years old.

MiLs Shark vacuum cleaner is at least 25 years old. She hadn't changed it for as long as I've known her.

We're still using the Tricity fridge that came with the fitted kitchen in our new-build first flat, which we moved into in October 1984. It's been through two further moves with us since then and, although the freezer compartment door falls off with a loud CLUNK! at least twice a day, it's still buzzing away contentedly in its corner.

Every Black Friday/Boxing Day/New Year's Day sale since about 1995, we debate buying a replacement, but somehow we can never find another fridge with the same range of features and we decide to wait another year.

I'm not sure the Tricity company still exists, so won't hold my breath for it to receive a 40th birthday card from them next year! Grin

I have a Kenwood Chef mixer my parents bought us for our engagement gift. I've been married for 39 years now

BarbaraBuncle · 14/12/2023 13:06

My 30 year old food processor finally broke last year. It was a sad day. It had been very reliable trusty kitchen appliance.

My 20 year old Miele dryer had to be replaced last year. I used to have a Miele washing machine too, and that did a good 20 years' service too.

Caspianberg · 14/12/2023 13:11

I bought hairdryer, toaster and Hoover in 2008 when I moved into own flat. All still work.
Hairdryer - cheap morphy richards
Toaster - cheap breville
hoover - Miele corded

HeraSyndulla · 14/12/2023 13:13

Miele washing machine.

MenopauseSucks · 14/12/2023 13:15

Small fan heater that was bought in 1990.
Still going strong!

Up until 2013, we were using a lawn mower that my grandfather used to own. Not sure when he bought it but he died in 1985.
He loved tinkering with electrical equipment in his shed so I'm guessing he worked some magic on it!

my parents still have their miele washing machine that they got as wedding present more than 50 years ago!

Wow you win the thread @greenacrylicpaint Thats impressive! We have a Miele washing machine and dishwasher, both are about 12 years old and still going strong.

RampantIvy · 14/12/2023 13:27

We have been married for 42 years and have only owned two washing machines. The first was a Zanussi, which still worked when we moved, but the house we are in now already had a perfectly good (Bosch) washing machine installed, which is still going strong 20 years later.

Caspianberg · 14/12/2023 13:30

We do have dh grandfathers old singer sewing machine also. He had it with him during the Spanish civil war in 1930s. It’s not electric though, uses a hand crank, and mainly kept for display now

I thought I was doing well with 16 year old GHD’s 😀

Mine are 15 years! Obviously good build quality.

AreThereSomewhereIslands · 14/12/2023 13:40

@bendmeoverbackwards - with your username, I was expecting you to boast about the longevity of your Hostess Trolley! Grin

Ha ha! 😂😂 Funnily enough I do have a friend with a hostess trolley. Dh and I are always sniggering about it 😂

sockarefootwear · 14/12/2023 14:28

Until about 6 months ago I had an alarm clock radio that I received as a birthday present when I was a teenager in 1985. It was nothing expensive- I think it was actually from Boots- but I loved. It was bright blue and at the time I thought it was incredibly cool. I used it every day and it woke me for all my major life events and many of my DC life events- exams, going to university, first day at work, my wedding day, DC first day at school, exams, DC1 going to University etc and was even beside me when my DS was born (home birth). Now that it has stopped working I just use my phone but it's really not the same.

Deliasdelilahs · 14/12/2023 14:32

I had a hairdryer that died after 15 years, the two replacements after it lasted a few months each. They definitely don't make things the way they used to! I try and but second hand now, because things which are older seem to have been built to last whereas newer stuff is not good quality

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 14/12/2023 15:05

My previous dishwasher made it to 22 before she became incurably incontinent. Our toaster (a cheapie) is 25 years old. Our first tumble dryer got to about 30 when she decided to tumble, but not dry!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/12/2023 15:11

Clothes dryer. My mum bought it mid-90's.
Works so well!!!

LostandHound · 14/12/2023 15:46

my GHD’s are over 20 years old and still going strong!

TeenDivided · 14/12/2023 15:57

I've a radio twin cassette player I was given for Christmas in 1983 so that is 40 years old now. It lives on the end of the kitchen counter.

Mountainhowl · 14/12/2023 16:15

Not ancient but older than many I hear about breaking - our washing machine cost us £30, second hand (at least) off Facebook 6 years ago and still works absolutely fine!

My mum's old whisk set lasted about 30 years! She gave it to us about 4-5 years ago and it broke last year, she got it when I was young. The bowl lives on as the designated sick bowl

We've got a sewing machine that's in its 60s, it was my grans when she was a teen, works fine!

PaulaPocket · 14/12/2023 16:18

A Knife sharpener and also a veg peeler from a pal we had in 1996 who did Betterware (anyone remember them? There was a little catalogue and they went bust in 2018).
