They want rich babies. Like the Rees-mogg ones. Any other baby will be down to survival of the fittest and those that survive can pay for the rich ones.

I’m feeling more and more European as time goes on. Specifically French.

Zonder · 31/12/2023 13:55

Objecting to childcare for babies from 6 months but not extending maternity rights to allow for longer at home. So should babie be with mum or in childcare?

Clearly only the wealthy should have more babies.

Exclusive @Telegraph: Downing Street officials are looking at changing the Government’s fiscal rules in an attempt to set a trap for Labour over borrowing

This sort of thing is pathetic - they need to govern responsibly even if they are expecting to lose. It is not a fucking game, it is our nation they are playing about with.

Latest detailed polling on the 'best PM' question:
Nationally, the Labour leader is the ahead of his Tory rival by 32 per cent to 22 per cent. Only Braintree, Castle Point, Clacton and North Bedfordshire put Mr Sunak ahead of Mr Starmer and undecideds.

Sunak beating Starmer in just four constituencies, poll reveals

Labour leader is preferred PM in 390 seats – even beating Sunak in his own Richmond constituency

Mercer was booed, quite rightly, when he switched on his local Christmas lights 👋 John boy

Oh that's a strong reaction. Most people are quite respectful really even if the MP is not their political choice.

I was in the paralympics crowd when Osborne was booed...

I am getting Facebook adverts from Sunak asking me to follow him so I can get personal updates.

Tempted to write a reply.

I had a letter for him just before Christmas asking me which of his policies were important to me. The questions were phrased in such a way that it was practically impossible to give a negative response. I binned it.

Notonthestairs · 31/12/2023 15:20

Ah now Vimto, surely we can all get behind the chess sets?

This should strictly speaking be on the Covid board but since it’s due to government incompetence and Tories not caring about people dying I’m going to leave it here.

As someone who is in a vulnerable group who was vaccinated with last years stock when they brought the vax program forward in September I would very much like to know why they are sitting on what could be up to 11million updated vaccines with no sign they are willing to give them.

I’m also a bit bemused as to why you would buy vaccines for a group (50-64 year olds) if the decision you have made is it isn’t cost effective to vaccinate them. Surely once you’ve brought the vaccines the most cost effective decision is to give them.

Yes this is appalling, especially given the predicted NHS pressures. People will be suffering real health harms as a result of this choice - both from COVID but also from the pressure on NHS services.

Hmmm I thought they were Uber confident that they were doing what the ‘silent majority’ wanted doing? This sounds awfully insecure 🤔

DoNotEngage · 31/12/2023 17:18

Are we all getting tory letters? I was sent one by our new prospective MP asking what improvements I had noticed following the record investment in public services, and following on, what were my personal priorities. I said I wanted him to stop the boats and continue the record investment in schools and asked to be kept updated by e-mail. I will be intrigued to find out what he says and desperately hope that he will also come to canvass at the door so I can give him some facts and figures from the education front-line. We are in a (newly-redrawn) marginal, so I think the campaign will be thorough. The fact that I am friends with the LibDem challenger somehow did not make it into my correspondence.....

pointythings · 31/12/2023 17:40

I haven't had any letters - and I don't even know who's standing for the Tories in my constituency following Jungle Matt.

I'll be interested to see how worried they are here though - if I get canvassers turning up on my doorstep, I'm going to do a little dance.

Oh dear, Rishi’s new year message has been community noted. He must be getting used to this by now.

Roussette · 31/12/2023 17:41

I haven't had any letters either but with a Tory incumbent of 30 years and complacency round here, it's hardly surprising...

BIossomtoes · 31/12/2023 17:46

No letters here either. I imagine they take this constituency for granted.

Saucery · 31/12/2023 17:54

I can’t remember the last time we had a letter from our MP. He’s been there forever, seen off a scandal, very popular with the upper middle classes his constituency was redrawn to include more of. He always responds to correspondence thoroughly and politely but will never rock the boat (small or otherwise) by appearing to disagree with the official Tory line.
The MP in the constituency next door has been out and about on social media, pretending to give a shit. We don’t see hide nor hair of her otherwise Hmm

InMySpareTime · 31/12/2023 18:13

DS got a letter from Rishi Sunak a few weeks ago but just recycled the questionnaire as there was no option on it to say what he really feels.
We've had flyers from Conservatives, Labour and Lib Dems, all dissing each other and claiming success.
Tories played up incumbency and National strategies (and claimed to be looking into building more schools with no mention of where those schools might be)
Labour played up local council stuff as they hold the council.
Lib Dems bafflingly seem to think they are the only party that can beat the Tories here despite being a distant third place in every election ever held here.

DuncinToffee · 31/12/2023 18:22

No letter here either, but with the electoral boundary changes, I guess Jezza is no longer interested.

His tweets about recent water supply problems didn't go down well going by the replies

What gives someone the confidence (arrogance) to assume they are right despite all evidence to the contrary. Whatever it is Liz Truss has it in abundance.

My MP only appears at election time or occasionally at the conservative club in town ( apparently)
I did spot him on tv about the Rwanda vote , but only for a rant
He just takes the votes for granted
